Something to say about outfits.
I swear to you Bhvr likes female characters more. Like Feng and Nea get a new outfit every week, Feng litterally got a new outfit today. While Male characters like Geoff or Adam (My main) haven't gotten a outfit in what feels like a year. And all of the survivors mentioned before are characters originally from the game no licenses at all. Meaning Bhvr can make a new outfit for them anytime they want, and it's always the female characters getting them. Tell me when was the last time Adam or Geoff got a new outfit (and don't google it.)

They sell what community buys.

It shows how much you like Jeff when you spell his name like Geoff.
Anyway, Jeff's most recent skin was in Greek Legends, which dropped on the midchapter, so about a month ago- I wanna say July 27th? Adam's was the Seoul Sights skin which came out near Trickster- off the top of my head I'm thinking end of March? Like 31st end of March. Not including the RIft because I don't keep up with anything there but the main 4

adam got one like 2 tomes ago, and jeff got one like 3 weeks ago, but again every single jeff outfit is a jacket

Ah yes they make items for the characters with the popular outfits that get many sales. And never make things for the underappreciated characters which have a chance to skyrocket in sales.

They have access to the pick rate of characters. What do you think would sell more, a skin for a character with a 15% pick rate or a skin for a character with 2.9% pick rate?

That's the thing they only get Jackets of some sort never full outfits.

There's more Feng's and Nea's then Jeff's and Adam's

no it was a full outfit , and he gets one like every other tome, there recolors of jackets tho and allways jackets and jeans.

Yeah that's the point of this thread.

BHVR is no charity, they want to earn money.
So they create Outfits for Characters which are frequently played - like Nea or Feng. The 3 Adam Mains who exist in the Community will not provide that much money when you create an Adam-Skin.

I wish we could see the stats but I bet female outfits sell a lot more than the male ones ^^ Hence, we see more female outfits. This could be because more people main females but I am not sure on that. My lobbies are pretty 50/50.
Also want to point out all the cosmetic contest winners have been female survivors as well. Feng, Caludette, and now Eoldie.
I would like to see more love for the boys of the fog.

Another thing you have to think about is that females have a lot more accessory options in general. More features to highlight, more varied shapes and styles. I mean with men it's generally just shirts, shorts, pants, and maybe a jacket or suit. Look at any fashion "event" like the Oscars - every male will look virtually indistinguishable while the females will all have something that's almost totally unique. You'll see countless patterns, cuts, fittings, accessories, etc.
I don't have a degree in gender studies so I don't know why that is, it's just kind of always been. I'm not complaining, I LOVE all the outfits that the ladies get in this game (and to be fair not all of them get good ones - I'm still waiting for Zarina and Jane to get more than the couple of decent ones that they have). Sure, I do wish that the male characters in the game got more to work with, but given the serious nature and dedicated themes / vocations of most of them there's not a whole lot of potential for accessorizing. I mean look at Tapp for example. The guy's whole character is being a detective. How many detective outfits can you make, you know?

I don't think it's about the frequency but rather that the ones we get for anyone else but Feng and Meg, and Claudette, are often so generic and uninspired that it is disgusting just how unimaginative the outfit design team can be for most of the time.

Yeah I meant more players play Feng and Nea then Jeff and Adam. Why make cosmetics for survivors nobody really plays.
There's more money to be made in Feng and Nea then Jeff and Adam.

That reminded me of the random statistics I made a year ago, of the character pick rates in my games.
Nea was fourth most popular pick (8,7%), Feng was sixth (6,7%), and Adam was dead last with 0%.
So popular characters do get more skins, especially the free ones (Dwight and Claudette, and I think Feng is free on consoles?).

The main reason (as everyone else has stated) is player popularity. They design around the characters who get played the most and who generate the most sales. That being said another thing to consider is that some characters have themes which are easier to design around than others.
Let's look at Feng. Feng's entire backstory is 'gamer girl'. There are cutesy outfits for her, there are 'gamer' outfits for her, and there is at least one outfit that embraces her ethnicity. When it comes to a variety of outfit designs that is far more of a blank slate than someone like Jeff. Jeff's entire backstory is 'biker dude with artistic side'. So, okay, they can do some biker outfits. Which they have. He likes metal so they've done some metal/rock inspired outfits. Really all that's left for Jeff is something to show his artsy side. Sure they could put Jeff in some shorts and flip flops and give him a tank top but... Why would they? That's not really on brand for Jeff and you have to assume that the people who play him and spent the money on his metal face paint outfit and tons of leather aren't going to suddenly want to buy him in khaki shorts and a Venice Beach tourist tank.

The funny part is it doesn't cost BHVR much to make more outfits for less played characters that, if cool enough, could potentially earn them more money and increase the pick rate of those characters.

Dude I 100 percent agree. They give all the outfits the the "popular characters" and never give any to the less played characters. Like litterally more than half of the people who main characters isn't doing it for backstory or perks but for the ######### outfits the character has. Just like you said I bet you that if Bhvr actually tried making new outfits for less played characters Bhvr could actually make them have a way bigger pick rate and Bhvr would gain lots of money.

At least those characters actually get outfits
Due to licensing, my boi quentin has only the stuff you get from buying the chapter
Can he at least get some new clothes after getting his face ruined?

One could argue it's some ill-fated 'misandric' ######### or that quality 'femme-empowerment' stuff, but the fact of the matter is that certain characters receive more attention because they're popular. Industry baby.
Or not... I'm completely horrified at that music video. Please let me unsee.
Edit: Thought my sentencing could be improved. Sue me.

People don't play the male characters because they are taller, louder and for some reason kick dust up when they run while females don't.
This causes a problem where they don't want to invest time in characters people don't play and that increases the problem because there is nothing good to make them wear if you do want to play them.

Tbf not all of them are louder. Tapp, Adam and ace are some of the quietest characters in the game

As many people have said, no point in making a skin that only 5% of people might buy
