Overwatch 2 & Dead by Daylight 2
So if you didn't know Overwatch is getting a sequel game & what makes it unique is that both OW1 & 2 players can queue up with each other, but OW2 will have its own separate gamemode & skins. Overwatch was extremely popular when it came out & alot of games were copying their formula, so it's possible it could happen again with games creating an OW2 like sequel. Opinions?

Knowing BHVR, they will not add cross progression because they want you to buy all the dlc again. I can totally see it coming. DBD 2 comes out and we have to buy every licensed killer a 2nd time.
Another game series that follows a similar formula is Total War:Warhammer. It has 2 games so far and the 3rd comes out dec I think. There's a lot of dlc for each but the base content is plenty to keep you occupied for hundreds of hours. If you have WH2 you can only play vortex campaign, which is like the story mode. You can only play as the WH2 factions. If you also have WH1 however you can also play the Mortal Empires campaign. Which combines the world map of both games 1+2 and ALL the factions. Essentially if you have a faction from one game you can play as them in the other games. When the 3rd game comes out I'll be able to use all the factions I have from the first 2 games.

My opinion: DBD does not need a sequel. And neither does Overwatch.
Overwatch has been stagnant ever since OW2 was announced. Nobody wanted a sequel, but the devs jumped ship anyway. I doubt it will release any time soon especially with the ongoing lawsuit and allegations.

unlike ow2, bhvr has no right to charge for dbd2. we deserve fresh spaghetti code for $0.

OW 2 being a thing has killed OW. The 'dead game' meme was literally already a self-fulfilling prophecy and Activision took over, instantly deciding to force the devs' hand into doing this rather than just changing the business model for the game to help it survive lol.
I don't want this for DBD unless it's a different style of game entirely made by a different team, because that would kill a game we all hold so dear.

The way i see it is that Dead by Daylight is too big to be "remade" in the way that overwatch 2 is. Apparently it's also been said that they are not interested in adding any new game modes so it's not like they can re-invigorate the game in the same way.
To be a bit cynical. I think their plan with Dead by Daylight is to just keep making content until it stops being profitable. Unlike Overwatch, they don't seem concerned with the longevity of the game, so remaking the game may not be good for business in that way.

The last decade I've noticed whenever Blizzard #@$%s up, they announce a new game to take attention off the situation. Given their current predicament I am expecting the company to be dismantled and Activison has other studios work on their IPs. I used to love Blizzard back in the days of SC:Brood Wars, Warcraft 2-3 and Diablo 2 but that company has died long ago.

Honestly, if they made a Dbd 2, with fun and more interesting core mechanics, better balance that makes the game more fair for both sides, better coding that they can easily build upon without breaking the game in the future and better visuals with much more customization for our original characters, I'd pay 60 bucks for the base game and 15 bucks per licensed killer no problem.
Oh, they must include Claudette or its a no buy for me.

I do not believe Overwatch 2 is actually coming out... The chance of Activision dissolving Blizzard is genuinely higher.
But anyways, I guess I wouldn't mind the idea for DBD.

They tried DBD 2, it was Deathgarden: Bloodharvest. It was fun and the pain points of DBD were null in that game, but without the community it died very quickly.

Um, if they own the rights to the game they can charge for it.

I really don't think BHVR could handle two DBD's. I mean, look how much they struggle with one lol

I haven't played Overwatch for long, but I remember that receiving the news of its sequel was not pleasant at all. I believe the same goes for DBD.
However...
As I've pointed out on another thread, if the release of a sequel meant that the older versions of the game would be playable, then I would support it.

I honestly rather see the devs work on simply updating DBD to more modern standards. BHVR still treats DBD as if it's an indie game, even though its one of the biggest games on Steam.
We want a game where we can be fairly certain that adding Flumpty the Egg from One Night at Flumpty in 2023 wont bug out Plague with a gamebreaking bug that causes her to puke on gens that hits all survivors at once. Which we all know is 100% going to happen with the current game.
Yeah, its going to require BHVR to put a lot of resources into a single department that causes us to have even less frequent hotfixes, less unique killers and less balancing for quite some time. But honestly, that decision would 100% be worth it since it means that the core for DBD, instead of being capable of handling 16 chapters and breaking after every chapter released afterwards, being capable of handling 64 chapters before it starts breaking down again.
We've had The Realm Beyond, now it's time for The Realm Within.

Short answer: No.
Long answer: OW2 is happening because of giant multiplayer campaign with some rpg elements if that didn't exist OW2 would be unnecessary. In addition all content for OW has grinded to a halt with the last character coming out april of last year and believe me the OW community is not happy with at this point a ton of people leaving for apex legends. Contrast this with dbd with 4 killers and 4+ survivors all coming with their own perks some with maps with other maps getting redone and dozens of cosmetics a year dbd does not lack for content and lives and dies off that level of output. They can't afford to do the OW model and there really isn't reason for them to do so.

unlike overwatch dbd actually has devs who care about their game. (even if they aren't great at developing it) So DBD will never get a DBD2. Devs are committed to DBD even with all its bumps and bruises.

From my understanding the code in which the game has been cobbled together with is to such an extent that when they add new code it quite often breaks many other features. I would imagine if BHVR were to start working on a DBD2 they would probably build the game from the ground up. Unlike OW2 that already is built upon a pretty stable foundation it's unlikely that a rebuilt DBD2 could be compatible with the original.
I suspect that BHVR would probably work on a totally different IP they could make profitable first before risking a DBD2. In all honesty a potential DBD2 would be better off for it as well. If the developers could get more experience with different game design elements prior to it could help make DBD2 a more in depth game.

There's no reason for sequels in a constantly updated game.
Overwatch doesn't need a sequel either. They could of just added those extra modes to the original. Now they will split the player base and force everyone to OW2, killing the first.
If DBD had a sequel, it would die like all the titles that tried to compete with it. No one wants to start this grind over again and its all the grinding we done so far is what keeps us playing this massive bug of a game.

We don't have alternative modes cause the devs don't want to split the community.
Imagine them telling players to abandon their investment, buy this new version and repurchase the same characters. "Hey we couldn't give you more ways to play with friends, but we have a way to get more money out of you for the same experience. "
