Cheating.
I played a game today and there were two survivors that would keep going on the rock and would not move.
I couldn’t get up there! Not that I would want to.
I thought it was very unfair that they did that.
I class that as cheating.
hoping the map gets sorted out if they can!

I have seen a survivor do it before and heard it has something to do with a glitched totem. Not sure how accurate that is though.

Technically it's an exploit but I can understand why you'd call it cheating, in a way it is.

It's not cheating. Even a mod commented on another post like this that said it's not cheating as both killer and survivors can get up there.

I love this logic. So using cheating software is not cheating too because both survivors and killers can install it?

cheating? no not it the most litteral sense. however it is an exploit, and i believe it is bannable.

Unfortunately, a mod indeed said "it's not cheating" and therefore not bannable. So you'd better learn all the exploits of DbD, since "if it's not patched - it's not bannable", that's how it seems to work, and if you don't learn to use them - your opponent who knows will have an advantage over you.

they said up there mods confirmed it's not banable
and as both sides can do it and doesn't break the normal gameplay, it's not an exploit either

you can ask that to the mods who said it's fine not me. This isn't an exploit, the gameplay is the same, and is not unfair for anyone

Killers who don't know about the exploit can't get there and it makes the survivors who do know how to perform it virtually invulnerable. It's an exploit by any other game's definition.

Except it doesn’t actually require any external actions/software/whathaveyou. Just a bit know-how on getting on there. It’s more like a “Oh, I didn’t know I could do that” than a cheat.

I literally figured out how to climb it seconds after seeing the 4 of them chilling it isn't even hard. Call it an exploit,mald about it, it's not banable

ah i didnt know it wasnt bannable, i knew about the rocks on ormond. however i remember hearing in a few yt vids its bannable thats my bad for the bad info.

You can get up there but its still a dick move by the survivors. It should be fixed in a year or two.

They aren't using cheating software. You can climb up on the rock too without any additional anything. Both killer and surv can do it just fine.

Whether something's cheating in principle is different from whether BHVR thinks it's worth their time to police it. IMO, taking advantage of broken parts of the map is cheating in principle regardless of whether you get banned.

I've seen much worse lately, both on my team and as Killer.
Survivors insta-healing each other and themselves without cooldowns or having For The People Equipped or medkits even, I've seen speed hacking, I've seen Survivors that can literally fly, or make themselves look like they've been hooked anywhere on the map floating in the air and not even count as a hook strike, or make head on stun last 2-3min long.
I don't know where these new "hackers" I would call them are coming from, I've played DBD for 4+ years and I've only first encountered them in the last few months, but it's happened to me 3 times already now and once on my team as Survivor.
Something fishy is going on.

"Mods/devs said it" is really a laughable notion as far as whether something ought to be considered a cheat, exploit, or unfair - especially since we've seen their priorities only shift when it directly affects them, such as with the flashlight update after Cote got bodied.

Who do you think decides what is or isn't allowed? The fact that the devs change their minds in the face of facts that contradict their previously held position (like any normal person should) doesn't mean they're not the ones who decide what the game should be like. It's their game.

I think 'they' decide, in exclusion, and I think that's an issue - community input ought to have more sway when it comes to the health of the game, coupled with transparency for the systems in place to deal with exploits, cheats, and toxicity, ideally headed by people with those notions foremost in their mind.

I disagree. While I do think the devs should take player feedback into consideration (as they do now), I don't think I've heard of a successful game that gave vocal players' opinions more sway in determining how the game is made than the devs' own insights, hard data, and so on. Those games tend to be run into the ground, from what I've heard.
None of us know the inner workings of the game and I doubt more than a tiny percentage have any experience in game development.

it's not really an exploit since the killer can also get up there too. not knowing how to do something both parties can do =/= an exploit

I disagree with your disagreement, and on a fundamental level: I don't think player feedback is actually considered to any notable degree beyond lip-service, and I don't think the dev's own insights are worth much - their conclusions as to what should be added to this game, reworked, or focused on based on the released analytics are jokes. The reason for DBD's success isn't its leadership, it's the lack of viable alternatives - BHVR's own other projects merely adding to the pile.

Is using the harvester cheatin or landing on the tank tracks cheating? Both sides can do it and its just using map geometry its not cheating imo

Different hypothesis: they genuinely believe it's fair and need to be convinced otherwise, not to have people assume they're being dishonest to cover up supposed incompetence.

I see the OP was playing Nurse; afaik you can't blink up the rock. You'd have to walk up to it. It's not particularly something that's easy to do either on either role but especially as killer where you have less free time to fool around to do stuff like that.

You'd think there would be more of it or that it wouldn't be so unobvious a route to follow someone up there. trapped totems that persist, the repeated bug of getting stuck by the hill, the invisible wall off a balcony.

They've fixed a few instances of climbing on rocks, I wouldn't be surprised if more fixes were coming.
Trapped totems are just a thing that killers with traps can do, it's literally their power to deny survivors certain areas.
Getting stuck on the hill is fixed, last I heard. It's also a bug, not a design decision.
Invisible wall off a balcony is intended, if there's a wall in that direction on the lower floor. It's to prevent survivors using Dead Hard or killers with some movement speed buff from going over (or onto) the wall.
