Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Take the RNG out of Autodidact

Instead of basing the ability on skillchecks that may or may not happen, just do it by number of seconds healed. Something like this:

  • For every 14/12/10 seconds you spend healing an ally, gain 20% increased healing speed when healing other players, up to a maximum of 100%

This way it actually feels like progression towards a new tier of healing speed regardless of whether skillchecks appear or not. Botany Knowledge will still have its place, since Autodidact only applies to other teammates, doesn't increase item efficiency, and requires time investment to be any good. Also, because healing happens faster at higher tiers, more players will have to be healed to rank up the perk, which will prevent players from reaching the max tier too quickly.

Just make the perk have an increased skill check chance and it would be so much better.

That might help, but it's still reliant on RNG. I doubt players want the outcome of their matches to be based on luck. Freddy games are a good example of that with the Survivors sometimes instantly waking themselves up, while other times it takes a full minute for a skillcheck to appear.

One buff to make it viable is to let it affect urself. The skillchecks are hard enough to get.

I think that would make it too good really. With the increased healing time and the prominence of Sloppy Butcher, it has become a bit better. Not to mention they want to phase out SC from being used.

I would like to see some way to increase the number of skillchecks though, whether having it tagged on the perk or making it an effect on some other one. Healing someone for 20 seconds and getting no skillchecks is beyond frustrating when using it.

stacking this with we'll make it, it would only take 4 seconds to heal someone. also it doesn't sound like its own perk anymore, just another we'll make it or botany

Autodidact is already a crappier, less reliable version of both Botany Knowledge and We'll Make It. I'd never use it over the other healing perks. I've had games where I've healed 2 survivors to full without getting a single skillcheck.

Here's another idea for the perk though, if you like skillchecks so much:

    • While healing another Survivor, skillcheck success zones are reduced by 50%/40%/30% and skillchecks now occur every 3 seconds. Successfully completing a skillcheck doubles the progression awarded by the next successful skillcheck. This bonus stacks infinitely, but resets once healing is completed, interrupted, or cancelled.

So this will eliminate RNG, keep it as a good counter for anti-heal builds, but also make healing more challenging than using Botany Knowledge or We'll Make It.
