If you are adding MMR, we need a casual mode.
I don't want to be lowering my MMR when I go into games with the intention of just messing around. By messing around I mean just going for flashlight saves, different techs etc. Due to the way DBD is designed, I don't have the incentive to tryhard and escape all my matches, and because I play solo 90% of the time you never know how good your teammates are going to be either.
If I'm in a mood to try my best to get all the gens done and help everyone escape, I will play SBMM mode. However if I just want to chill and have some fun with the killer, I don't want my MMR to be changed by those matches, because I am playing much more risky and likely to get killed.

A casual mode would never work, all sweatlords would immediately abuse it.

No reason to divide the community. This isn't a competitive game, no leaderboards and few tourneys.

Even worse, all the sweatlords that get constantly matched with people of their skill level and get tired of losing, would instantly switch to the casual mode. Just to stomp some noobs.

There are already bad queue wait problems in current DBD world with cross play and prime time hours. Splitting up the player base with multiple modes in addition to tighter matchmaking via SBMM would make it worse.

My region would take it, queue times are in seconds now. Also didnt they boasted how many people are playing now since RE chapter? Do we really need million players to have 2 game modes?

Not really sure, it could be perfectly fine as you say. The drawbacks of being wrong are pretty big though, if a x man swf takes y+ minutes to find a game and it causes player numbers to take a hit I'm sure it would cause a big panic at BHVR and at that point could they really roll-back adding modes?

Well only they can answer those questions since only they know. What bothers me is that they dont keep only one mode because of queue times, but simply because its easier for them to do so than making another one even if game would sustain it.
Guess we will never know since their communication is vague as ever

All it would do is divide the player-base and make queue times longer for both.
That's not even mentioning sweaties dunking on casuals all day.

Guys, stop with this argument. Just stop, this is wrong. In fact there will be some tryharders in casual mode queuing, but that would be an absolute minority.
By saying that, I'm sorry but have to assume you just never played any competitive games.....

Tryhards playing casual? And whats the problem? It wont be sweatier than ranked mode and if it is, then theres something very wrong with the game itself.
Casual wont have pips or anything so you cant lose. Thats what makes it casual. Not casual playstyle, people can still sweat in it if they want to? Play however they want you know, without worrying about ranks and still get BP.

The MMR-system is the casual mode. You and i are just no casuals.
What we need would be a rank mode. A mode, where you can sweat for your rank and rewards. If there would be one, you just need to never sweat in the MMR-mode and you would be fine with a low MMR.
The MMR-system protects the casual player in the casual playlist from better players. Should the game just "trust" you that you will just mess around and match you with players, who have normally no chance against you? I dont doubt you, but there are players, who would abuse that.

But many games have one MMR-mode and the other is ranked. So MMR is the casual mode.
So we need ranked, not casual.

If you want to play casually, play casually.
There's no reason to care about your mmr value because there's no value in having a high or low mmr.

Casual mode would work in a way that you have two MMRs a "normal" and a "casual". Before starting to queue you select the normal or casual setting based on how you want to play.
If you will play sweaty on casual, that's going to be only your problem, because your MMR is going to be high on both normal and casual settings and you will get hard matches on casual as well. So you can't cheat the system and can't go smurfing.

This game will never, ever be able to handle a casual mode. I've actually never played a casual mode that was genuinely casual, but dbd would be the absolute worst offender just because it's an inherently casual game with no chance of being balanced.

But it is possible that sometimes people want to play normally, and sometimes e.g. try some weaker perk builds. So it would be good if you would have too MMR profiles and before queueing you select your MMR profile.

DbD is a casual game and the Devs want to keep it that way. They actively refuse to balance around the best players and have stated so several times.
With that in mind, the point of SBMM isn't to make the game competitive, it's to prevent blatantly unfair trials from occurring, which is something that can kill any game. It's actually what every game uses in their casual modes to begin with, and the emblem system was supposed to be a form of SBMM. It just didn't work.
That is why they arent adding additional modes.

True. But let's not forget that workshop came along, per Jeff Kaplan in an interview, because a few of the Devs had worked on it on their own, on the side, just for the heck of it. And it worked out so well that Team 4 decided to actually put it into the game. And of course, the official Dev support for it post-release has made it what it is today.
So far, I'm not seeing that kind of Dev dedication on DbD, where they're working on stuff for the game on their own time because they simply want to. Matter of fact, I think it was in the Anniversary stream (could be wrong on which stream, though) where Almo fielded a question about KYF enhancements and said that they wouldn't be spending resources on it because it is barely touched by players as it is.
Never mind the simple fact that it's very likely barely touched by the player base at this point because it sucks as currently implemented.
But if I scratched my head any more about the things this Dev team says, I'd probably make my scalp bleed.

You add MMR, then casual and pro and all matter of levels in between come into existence. MMR adjusts to how you want to play. You play hard, you get put against pro players, if you play casually, then you get put with casuals...

Can I ask the obvious question?
Why do you care if your MMR gets lowered when you're doing wacky things to have fun?
A high MMR doesn't give you anything and its not a visible stat.
Goof off, lose some MMR, then when you get back to playing normally you should gain it back.

If you mean competetive, then i have to disagree. The way most Survivors and killers approach matches makes it competetive. You are competing against other players who try to win. Thats competetive in my eyes.

I was originally thinking about a casual mode but the try-hards would probably still play it. So it would be ideal to add multiple games modes at this point. Like a survive mode. Were all survivors have to do is survive for 15 minutes, so it's purely about chases and nothing more. All the killer would have to focus is on chases, and all survivors would have to focus is on chases as well lol, no gens. Just some new fresh modes would be fun. And either way the player base is larger than ever, so this split base is up is moot at this point. It made sense 2 years ago, but today with a semi large active player base and cross-play on it holds no ground.

I think people will still try hard even if we had a casual mode, it reminds me of overwatch, I would have fun matches on competitive and sweaty on quick play.

That is still true today, if not even more so, as many have ditched Competitive mode at this point and just play sweaty in RoleQ quick play.

If you just noob around the mmr automatically will match you with the same sort of gamer. That way you can play together with other trolls and people like me get rid of you and instead matched with other tryhards.
So MMR is exactly what you want. Because if you don't play sweaty it won't match you with sweaty Killers or Survivors.

That's my thought. I don't worry about being a meta-slave. I try different perks on Myers, Freddy, Leatherface, Doc, etc cetera as the mood strikes me. I absolutely refuse to sweat for the 4k. SBMM seems like just what players like me need.

Ranked Mode with SBMM = Where everyone is matched with players of a similar skill level, and get an enjoyable but challenging game.
Casual Mode with no matchmaking criteria = A free for all where good players stomp on noobs. Lower skilled players will have a crap time playing here, and so they will all go to Ranked Mode where they actually stand a chance. 'Casual Mode' will become a sweat fest of all the bully players who are crying that they can't noob-stomp with SBMM anymore.
Eventually nobody would play Casual Mode, because it wouldn't be any fun for anyone. People dicking around, teabagging, clicking flashlights, and disconnecting when they can't get their own way, and hacking. Meanwhile with matchmaking and DC penalties on in 'Ranked Mode', it'll draw in the majority of actual, fair players, who want to feel like they're accomplishing something with their efforts.

A toggle that would expand your MMR range, but only downward? That would be abused by everyone to attempt to getting lower ranked opponents, and thus, noob-stomp.

But it could be random. Sometimes it would work and other times it wouldn't. It's also what I imagine for the 'I'm at the top and can't play sweaty matches all the time' solution - occasionally give that player an easier match to shut them up.

And would there be a random chance of being matched far above your skill level? What's the downside?
Why would I, as a hypothetical noob-stomping bully, not want the chance, however small, of being paired up with noobs?
Why would an option that allows newbies to get paired with terribly over-skilled opponents be a desirable system to implement?

SOunds a little exagerated. I'd assume this would be a slightly less experienced/rated "other side". What I'd project, if I was designing, is if you 'won' against another team/killer at this rating, it would soft-disable for the next match so you'd have a more powerful opposition, etc.
The whole issue with SBMM is that people are not happy actually being put up against teams/killers that the system deems as a reasonable opposition and calling them 'eternally sweaty'. I'm never going to be that person, I'm fine with SBMM because it works well for me, but obviously, there's a lot of people that are panicking about it.

Forget about a casual mode already, it's not gonna happen. Also forget about removing SWF, it's not gonna happen too.
