About Spirit
So I used to play spirit but stopped for a very long time because of the console lag bug. Now that its running smooth again (and also because I actually bothered to watch the Grudge for the first time in my life), i'm playing her again but I seem to have lost my edge.
I'm looking for ways to increase my ability to get the drop on survivors, with or without her power. Any suggestions?

3) Profit

Lol, i still use that. It doesnt work as often as it used to but its still a very viable option.

Try to do short bursts at loops rather than spending the whole power gauge. That’s the correct way to play her. There are times you’ll need to use a large portion of your power like if a survivor is holding W and since you’re a 4.4 killer, you’ll have to do that to counter that strat. Survivors with Iron Will are more complicated but if you read them enough, you should be able to predict their movements and catch them by surprise if they try doubling back.
It takes practice and she does take way more skill than people say so all this isn’t particularly easy to do. The reason people are quick to say that she takes no skill is that 75% of survivor mains just don’t try when they play against her.

That's not the only thing that Spirits need to learn. Standing still doesn't even work every time.

She's one of my most played killers. A few tips:
Spirit is as much visual as she is auditory. Survivors kick up dust on pallets when they vault. You can tell which direction they vaulted by the dust.
There are lots of subtle audio cues to go off of when survivors perform slow actions. They grunt and stomp their feet when they slow vault, for instance.
Understand how Spirit's idle animation cycle works. Simply standing still will work 99% of the time. But 1% of survivors will be able to tell when you phase because of Spirit's idle animation reset. You can proc the animation reset by tapping and letting go of the phase button while you stand still. This is the omega standstill mindgame.
Be patient with your phases. You don't need to rush into a phase immediately. Take a second or two to stand and watch the survivor and gather some intel as to how they're going to try and juke you. Are they running in circles? Running randomly? Are they charging forward and thus predictable?
Identify whether or not they have Iron Will immediately after you injure them. Iron Will can be a pain, but IW users can be pretty predictable because they completely rely on the perk. They typically double back in some fashion. I like to stand and wait for them to start doubling back, then phase and intercept as they crouch walk over to a bush or something. Remember to proc your animation reset when you do this to fully sell the fake phase and get them to start their juke while you watch. If an Iron Will player is causing you a ton of trouble, focus down those that aren't running the perk and deal with Iron Will later in the trial.
Stridor is still useful because it will help you land healthy phase hits. Crouching reduces survivor breathing sound by 50% healthy or injured. Stridor can absolutely let you hear healthy breathing from immersed survivors.

as a dedicated spirit main that has practiced a lot in custom games and learned as many details/info about her power as i could, i can confirm that just charging up the power a bit ( not fully charge it ) will not cause the animation reset. ( you have to actually charge it all the way up meaning the MOMENT you regain total movement in phasewalk, is when the animation reset happens.

The most effective type of phase are the quick bursts. My rule of thumb is to almost never use more than half of her power gauge unless I need to get somewhere faster. The more time you spend on phase, the easier it is to juke. The faster charging addons (the brooch and the lace) help with that.

Listen, joke or not, I am just a huge Rin Yamaoka enthusiast so I will defend her when I can. Anyone who know me well on the forums should know that about me.

I would say Yui is the one get profit from Spirit standing mind game.
For my way of playing. Use Distressing to increase TR to 30m. With Nurse calling spotting heal from 28m. You can always caught them off guard, since theyre in TR so they cant hear phasing. Combine with Sloppy and Thana to make them heal more.
