No, this is how it's meant to work. If the server detects a grab but the grab is not validated, the server makes the killer swing instead.
The problem is that by the time the server realises the grab is not validated, the swing doesn't do anything and the survivor is already out of range.

In all my time of playing Killer, I learned one very important lesson: Never try to grab. It will bite you in the [BAD WORD] 80% of the time. Just lunge.

I know about the change. But maybe, just maybe, it's not working as intended. Let the devs know and figure it out instead of saying outright they lied when in this instance there's no evidence they did.

They could do what any sane developer would do and, you know.
Probably put grab on its own button, or on spacebar.

This might be connected to the "hit validation" on the dedicated server, so I've got grab_validated!
When a survivor screams after the hit and remains uninjured, or grab got canceled -- I feel that pain.

Think about it like this; Street Fighter II has a similar function that was made 30 years ago. Grabs in that game were also bound to the attack button and required you to be very much so up close.
Starting sometime much later on in the series' life, this was changed so that the characters all had a dedicated grab button outside of various command grabs that could be used. This was a huge quality of life change that ended up impacting every single fighting game.
Now think about Dead by Daylight for a second and how it functions. There's actually two known instances where the Killer grabs the Survivor with Spacebar; from a locker or from the dying state.
So why is it that when a Survivor vaults, does a generator, cleanses a totem or opens an exit gate that they aren't grabbed by what is literally a "grab Survivor" button that's already in the game?
Why resort to wasting a significant amount of time and money to make some sort of grab validation system that doesn't even work half of the time, when you could just change a few lines of code, break the game even more, and let Killers grab with Spacebar? This way Killers don't suffer a damn cooldown every time their grab is "validated" by the server and they end up M1'ing, costing them precious time and letting the Survivor escape through no fault of the Killer's own actions.
Not having a function like this screams of a critical amateur mistake to an elementary level problem.

Wouldn't surprise me when it only works on injuring and not downing.
But this still doesn't top my canceled locker pull in my eyes. They entered in my vision, i start the pull and the simply run away and I was stuck through the whole animation.

Yeah. When they announced it, I thought a cancelled grab was going to turn into a hit, which is what it used to do before dedicated servers. Instead it turns into a useless swing, after the grab animation already made you freeze. It's dumb and it doesn't solve the problem at all, but I think that's what they intended to do.

It's funny how DbD goes from "buggiest game ever" to "this is definitely intended and the developers just lied" at the drop of a hat, depending on what (supposedly) makes the devs look worse.

This is also, in BHVRs words, a temporary solution as a bandaid while a more permanent solution (likely a recode) is worked on.

They didn't lie about it, they just made you made swing instead when the survivor is already 10M away making you waste even more time that if they just denied it. They tried to fix something and made it even worse, this should be Behaviour's motto.

I mean this is coming from a community that tends to considers things like a killer being 128m away from the hook a “camper”🤣… so nothing surprises me..

BHVR just worked on grabs, they know its broken right now. But they released it anyways saying it was fixed. They should have told us that we can still expect grabs to cancel sometimes, they should have told us it would trigger random killer's powers. They didn't. That's lying.

Like I said, people go from "buggiest game ever" to "everything bad is 100% intended" at the drop of a hat.

I will just say its works as they said it would work the thing is that you get stucked but surv keep playing so it keeps being safe out of the window and u do a hit.Never try grab on windows or pallet always long M1

i miss the grabs from not too long ago. killers such as leatherface and oni would use their power and instadown you somehow.

Had a few when going for someone unhooking. I down the unhooker but they hooked surv still gets off the hook.
