How does the white ward work

I get what it does you keep your item and add-ons when you die it's more does the item disappear when you die or does it remain where you died.

It will not stay where you die, so if you have a black ward, the item will be back on your character and cannot be scavenged by teammates.

A quick note: If the killer knocks the item out of your hand with Franklin's Demise or you drop your item somewhere in the trial you can still lose the item. You only keep your item if you're holding it when you die.

If you die with an item in your hands, you won't lose it. It also saves the addons.
The only requirement is it must be in your hands when you die.
