Should the lightburn mechanic be removed?

So just a random thought I had: Is the lightburn mechanic necessary? It seems old and outdated.

Should it be removed?

It happens so rarely that frankly most people probably don't even know it exists.

Plus it's funny to run Flashbang and get lucky by having a perk that somewhat counters Wraith

No, it's pretty fair and has some counterplay. Plus, they're going to run out of flashlight juice eventually. It also gives Wraith (and Nurse) a "safety valve" of sorts to stop them from being overwhelming.

For Nurse, you're just not lightburning her.

For Wraith, with a flashlight, you're not burning him without wasting enough time to where he profits.

However against a baby Wraith, its an item directly countering a killer & making their experience miserable.

Then there's Flashbang & firecrackers, which against Wraith, if you just wait until he starts uncloaking, there's not really anything he can do, so it's not only an item, but an event item, directly affecting the killer & with Flashbang, its a perk directly affecting the killer.

Items shouldnt interact with the killer directly, as it just makes "######### you" moments. Trapper felt awful when there were toolboxes when his traps could be sabo'd. Trapper feels awful when survs bring a map with Red Twine.

Perks shouldnt interact with the killer directly, as it too, just makes "######### you" moments. You're playing Doc and there's a Calm Spirit, thats a portion of your power gone, you're playing Clown or Freddy against new Vigil, get ######### idiot, just play better.

It's not too much an influential mechanic, but it's existence is wrong.

They already made it so no perks directly affects a killers power, same should be true for items too. Maps shouldn't be able to see Trapper/Hag traps and flashlights shouldn't be able to burn Wraiths/destroy Hag traps. It's just depressing to see 4 flashlights after a 5 minute queue time as Wraith or Hag.

If anything, I'd like to see more killers given lightburn and have perks and add-ons revolving around lightburn. Make it a more integrated part of the game

The only reason I say NO is because I find it fun that Wraith has this wierd unique interaction with Survivors.

love the mechanic too much to see it go

I hear the wraith with the max volume headphones

    I see the invisible wraith

I burn him then chain the blind 17 times and hide :)

and for nurse well it's almost impossible unless they require a lot of time to aim the blink but if they know what they are doing then they won't waste any time.

so with wraith I think it's necessary but for nurse it's kinda pointless

    You kinda can

you can point it at the fake husk and it will dissapear although that's not really a lightburn

but what would be the point you can't really track her anyways and also she is super fast and keeping the flashlight on her for 4 seconds while she moves at 8.5 meters per second is kinda hard and also she has to stay in phase

    although that would be interesting

I think it should. No other killers have this sort of weakness, the only other killer weakness I know of that should stay is pallet stuns taking away their power, plague and legion for example.

It takes the wraith a while to uncloak anyway so if the survivor is not out in the open they can still get to a pallet or vault. He does not need an extra stun imo.

Yes its annoying as the killer, especially when they spam flashlight twice in a row like its not necessary I hate those types of people lol anyways yea they should get rid of the burn

It doesn't affect the game often enough to even put effort into it imo.

You can't lightburn Nurse, but you can prevent her from blinking, which can be really useful, especially if she misses her 1 blink.

I'm going to say this now, you can't remove lightburn or else thats a nerf to flashbangs, flashlights, and firecrackers

Which would mean if we remove lightburn, we will need compensation on those items, along with possibly a few other perks

actually shining her body does that but blinding her while charging it causes her to go into fatigue

I have successfully lightburned a nurse using a flashbang and honestly it was the best thing I have done in dbd, couldn't bear to see the mechanic go

I know, but realistically it's impossible to burn her as you pointed out. That's why I said practical use of flashlight against Nurse is to deny her second blink and force her into fatigue.

Pre Wraith nerf, I might've said yes. Hag would sway that opinion, simply because then she'd be the only killer flashlights are extra powerful against.

But talking more wraith, I feel this weakness is actually needed now.

Nurses burn needs work, its nearly impossible to pull off and either needs to be changed so it is a good weakness for her, or just remove it from her.

It is quite strange that lightburn is something that supposedly affects those in the "spirit world"

yet it does not affect the Spirit. I'm not sure how it'd be introduced and if it'd be fair because of Spirit's upcoming nerf, perhaps you could lightburn her husk by shining it in her face while phasing to pull her out of her power prematurely?

Anyway I think it's fine on Wraith, quite useless against Nurse, and it can be left in.

Yes, it completely negates Nurse's power... needless to say she moves slower than a survivor.
