Did BHVR really just say this?
“Most killers move faster than survivors, so running in a straight line will prove futile.” ~ Timestamp 3:01
Just thought it was funny that BHVR is either unaware or just wants to discredit the “Hold W” meta, where you can sometimes waste like 20-30 seconds of the killer’s time before they are close enough to initiate a chase.

As if we needed more proof they have no idea what the hell is going on in their own game.
77 -
Yes, they don't know how to play their own game properly :).
Most of the time, running straight meanwhile breaking the line of sight is the best option and the most effective way to make a chase last longer.
25 -
I get that it’s basically a beginner’s guide that won’t go into too many specifics, but that statement is just flat out wrong. Running in a straight line (in the open) wastes more time than zig zagging, which will lose you distance on the killer.

annnnd the wet paper bag wins
1 -
Yeah, it's like they're pretending that holding W isn't effective. Is the logic that, "Well, if we say this then it will just be true all of a sudden"? That's like saying that looping isn't effective and that you should always hide instead.
12 -
I love that they say that while showing trickster being unable to catch up to the survivor and having to use his power LMAO they are so freaking oblivious sometimes I love it
2 -
I think it's not about zigzag vs straight but more about straight line vs looping, using pallets, windows, blocking LOS etc

Holding forward is only ineffective if the other 3 aren't on gens. In other words, at low mmr games this doesn't work. If the killer takes that chase against average-high mmr, super effective strategy.
2 -
I legit just got chased by a Huntress without looping, honey I ran across the entire map and escaped. Running in a straight line with a few LOS blockers does work. lmao, oh bhvr
3 -
It's not entirely wrong though, because it doesn't help you escape a chase.
Also this has been in the in-game manual.
1 -
Meanwhile in DBD: Oh boy the killer is coming! Time to pre drop this god pallet and hold forward for 1 minute until the interaction even starts!
8 -
Yeah... I feel like everyone is being purposely obtuse to take a jab at Behavior... This is quite clearly what they meant.
16 -
Maybe we should thank them for not promoting the hold-w playstyle?
0 -
Yes, they deserve big kudos. Silly me.
1 -
They meant W in straight line, eventually killers will catch them, which survivors need a windows to vault over.
This is the same as looping at a loops over and over then survivors need to drop pallet.
2 -
It's a beginners guide though...are you seriously gonna compare it to high level gameplay...?

when i see laurie running in a line towards shack and know for a fact that she has dead hard, quick and quiet, active mettle of man, activated hope, a med-kit with a syringe, no basement at shack, god pallet, an exit gate next to it which is 99%, and are oblivious due to them having finished a blue glyph against my doctor
{INSERT OVERUSED METAL GEAR SOLID MEME HERE}

Yet they refuse to do anything about the hold W meta. Simplest thing they can do is shorten maps but selling cosmetics is more of a priority.
7 -
Hey, at least the cool narrator is back.
5 -
Seriously
at low to mid survivor level it's much much better to just ######### + W and insta-drop instead of even risking chase. The game is over-populated with loops, and pallets so they can always make it somewhere safe near max efficiency and no risk against most killer which further accentuates disparity between high movement killers and low movement killers, which is where bad statistics and bad feedback from lower ranks comes from. Even at higher ranks Shift + W is integrated with looping for max efficiency and is a huge problem.
1 -
Guys if you run from the killer without initiating a chase then obviously you will run more straight lines to avoid the killer and prolong being chased...
This is referring to being in a direct chase where the killer is only a few feet away.
3 -
Who would listen to any advice from the devs? Their standards are so low the bar for winning is 2 escapes, 2 kills. Seriously just find a clip of Cote playing and you'll see what I mean
1 -
You guys go on and say to a newbie or someone that never played that he should hold W to win and see the result...
1 -
I’ve seen people terrible at looping hold W and it works out better for them than trying to loop efficiently.
9 -
Yeah, ummm.. this is exactly what I tell newbies when I'm teaching them. Part of the looping course is "skip every other loop unless your killer is dumb enough to mindgame themselves for you, you'll have more than enough time now and have them for later"
It's one reason why my crowd has a history of 3/4 gen runs.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who caught that. I swear bhvr needs a team who actually understands their game.
3 -
I thought he died of COVID or something? At least that was the rumor going around for a while.
1 -
Frankly i think they DO know whats going on in their own game. They just don't give a damn and choose to ignore it in favor of their own ideas.
2 -
I think that is the case, there’s NO way a company can be that oblivious… it’s more of a “we see it but we don’t care” situation. Like Patrick saying that game is “too nuanced” to make an effective MMR system lol.
6 -
...This is aimed at new players who may not immediately catch on that looping is a thing, and it's designed to coax them into using the environment more. Holding W may be the right call sometimes but that's getting into a slightly more advanced area where you know the basics of the game, and this video is the basics of the game.
So yes, they said it, because it's correct and they should've said it. New players do need to be told that pallets and windows are a thing, that's what this video is for. Later on, probably not even that much later, they can be told that sometimes you don't need to waste resources and that running forward is the best call.
Genuinely, what did you want this to say? It's for onboarding totally new players so you simplify the concepts, which may lead to saying things more experience players know to ignore in some circumstances. This is totally expected and legitimate, nobody has done anything wrong here.
7 -
Even if it’s aimed at new players, they literally said verbatim “running in a straight line will prove futile”. That’s simply not true.
2 -
When the killer is right on you, and you're a new player, yes it is true. Even if it's not true under all circumstances, the point isn't for it to be the takeaway- the thing new players are supposed to take from that isn't "pallets and windows are always better", it's "pallets and windows exist"
This isn't a strategy guide, it's the "dip your toes in" barebones overview of the game, and under that context, what it says is true.
7 -
I’ve said this before but I’ll repeat it again:
Some people waste more time running in a straight line than trying to loop. So BHVR is still incorrect.
What the video should have said is (condensed):
Depending on your surroundings, make use of the environment by dropping pallets and vaulting windows or simply run as far from the killer as possible.
^ Not a perfect description but you get the idea.
4 -
That's complicating it for a level of skill where it won't matter, though.
I'm not saying your version is incorrect, but the version in that video isn't either. It's not displaying a lack of understanding of their own game, it's simplifying their own game to explain it to someone who's totally new to it. You'll notice the video doesn't mention how many generators there are on the map, or the other item types, or any other even basic-level aspect, because it's a very brief overview of the game.
Could it have been phrased better? Probably. Did it warrant this kind of response? Not even remotely and it's actively embarrassing that this many people reacted this way.
3 -
It warrants this response because when a company is so out of touch with their product people will call them out.
1 -
Sure, I'm not particularly interested in debating that point with you. When a company is so out of touch, people will call them out. Agreed!
Since this video didn't display that, though, this post and its responses remain embarrassing.
3 -
If we're going to get nitpicky here (which you are)...
The video isn't lying.
Running in a straight line will eventually run you into a wall or and obstacle that will allow the killer to down you with ease.
Also, in the context of the video, that is a leading sentence into teaching beginners about using their environment to get away from the killer. Its hardly trying to make a statement. If anything, its just filler to shift the conversation from one aspect of the game to another.
6 -
The very next thing they say after the sentence you are complaining about is "Create separation by vaulting through windows." and the one after that is "Drop pallets to block the killer's path. Time it just right to stun them, allowing you to create even more distance"
Sounds pretty good to me, what's the difference with what you suggested?
3 -
Histrionics over an introductory survivor gameplay video - solid
4 -
They can start by not saying running in a straight line is “futile”.
1 -
It's for beginners, it's supposed to be simplified. It's like teaching math to a child, you don't start with advanced calculus.
5 -
Its a beginners guide. Judging them over something like this is really unneccessary.
4 -
Have you ever won a chase by running in a straight line without vaulting windows or dropping pallets?
4 -
its kinda true though...? killers are faster than survivors so yes eventually running in a straight line will be futile. whatchu nitpickin about?
3 -
People love drama and any reason to bash BHVR.
Posts like this often do little more than reflect and/or expose the mindset of such people.
7 -
Right? No wonder bhvr doesn't communicate as much a it used to, this community freaks out about everything 🙄
5 -
Don’t say something that’s inaccurate and you won’t get called out for it.
1 -
It's a beginner's guide. For beginners.
Haven't you ever played through a video game tutorial? They don't start you off with the strategies used by the best players, they start with more basic concepts that you can actually grasp.
3 -
It’s a pattern they have, though.
Like saying Wraith is “overpowered”. They need to stop thinking like Rank 20’s, this game has been around too long for that.
1 -
Goddamn, you're still on this?
