I missed quite a bit in like a day.
After playing with MMR for a while, I got super annoyed with how the matchmaking's handled, making sweaty games left and right, and was anticipating the update coming out tomorrow. I get the smart idea to check the DBD Forums (as I was playing other games with friends) to see how everyone's feelings, and... I'm no longer anticipating the new update. I don't think I'll be spending money to get the new Halloween cosmetics after all...

This kind of thing has actually got me more down than I'd likely care to admit. I love this game but now I feel like I'm supporting something I don't believe in if I play, and that makes me feel extremely conflicted inside.

I feel stupid, I already bought some auric cells anticipating a certain skin, and then I find out I basically cucked myself, and now all of this about NFTs? Feels bad man.

The exact same here. Got a steam giftcard for my birthday a few days ago and used it to buy auric cells for the new tome and upcoming skins...🤦

Do you think they might have timed this announcement specifically because they knew the event, the mid-chapter release, and skins would get people clamoring to drop money on it?
Like, they weren't going to announce it any other time - they knew they had to announce it now so you're going to get major FOMO vibes and spend money and support their immoral NFT decision.

Not any of our faults tbh. We had no way of knowing.

I don't know. Maybe not. Some people think that BHVR had to tweet out about it because they were being forced to. I'd hope they weren't being that malicious about it, but I guess at the end of the day you shouldn't expect anything out of anyone— even a good game with a good moral backbone supporting it.

Yes, they probably knew that they would get a day of everyone being rightfully upset and hoped it would then be overwhelmed by conversation centred around Mikaela and the new content.
A cynical person might say introducing a huge bug would do the same thing.

Well I know that you maybe feel bad now. But please don't. When you made that decision DbD probably just announced the new patch and the new survivor. Both are good work and would be worth spending some bucks on. You could not know about the future as you probably have no super powers.
Now when you think about spending those auric cells think about it this way: Does BHVR get any more money from you buying something now?
The answere is usualy "no" because you already spend the money. Also BHVR does not get any money from you playing the game right now. If anything they lose money if you play the game without spending more on them because they have to run servers and service. Not playing would actualy benefit them if you do not plan to spend any money...
Maybe hold onto those cells. But not playing the game would just be: BHVR gets your money without providing any addition service. A big plus for them.
Same for you...
You made that decision based on the facts back then. Nothing bad about it. How likely was it that this NFT thing was real? No very likely.
