....that the population is stable/more or less unchanged.
It will be interesting to see if it increases with the content drop, given the vocal outcry.

Pretty sure last I checked on SteamDB the average playercount is dropping though.

That's not what matters to devs, this game could lose 40k players and devs wouldn't care as long as the remaining community would spend an increasing amount on money on the game.
What will matter is who will pay the dlc with real money or not

generally i'd severely doubt something like this would have much of an impact due to most people probably not really caring

Also from september 13th to october 18th there's a drop of almost 30k players so yeah, yesterday's marketing practice won't help at all

This is 100% facts. However, superficial cosmetics can only carry a company so far. Most of the skins cater to an exclusive demographic.

Hey. I'm one of those "Exclusive Demographics". Been buying every Rift since it started, even went as far as buying tiers when I was busy during that rift. Even made sure to have my killers look as unique and as different as possible to the regular skins if I can help it.
I assure you I won't be buying the current one nor any other cosmetics after this.
There are some people with more money than sense though.
It won't surprise me if that is why BHVR is supporting crypto and NFTs though, that scene is full of people like that

There have been like 5 attempted boycotts of this game. Nothing will ever happen and people will try again and again.
The thing that you need to keep in mind with player count is the average amount of players per month for the whole year. Yeah the players are a bit down from the past couple months but they are up more than 10k since October 2020. We have gained that many players so the boycott is not doing anything at all.
