This forum is heading downhill fast :(
Histrionics and dev bashing seem to be the most popular types of topics, these days.

That's always been the norm.
If you check the steam discussion forums (the medium used for communication prior to these official ones), you'll notice the same trend since the games release in 2016.
It's never boring at least.

The 'dev bashing' you're referring to is them being held to account, isn't it, rather than those that attack them for having a different idea on balance?
This forum, and in fact any forum for gaming communities, is always filled with people attacking devs in uncouth manners for a difference in opinion on balance. The latter, though...this only really happens to a select few companies and bhvr are really bad at addressing it unlike, say, Blizzard did recently.
25 -
Is there a time it's not? At least right now it's partially merited. They've completely swamped their game and are acting out of greed.

I think it's going downhill because so many people have been banned for god knows what. People who were regulars with thousands of posts. It sucks being a part of a forum where one wrong thought and you're gone. Makes me wonder if Reddit is better for talking about DBD.
27 -
I feel in most other communities it's generally just elitist waffle. However here a lot of people are passionate about this game, and want to to succeed so badly, however as of late BHVR have made a series of poor choices and releases while not really doing any damage control and it has people, myself included frustrated. If BHVR would just step up to the mark and show the community some passion toward making this game great the community wouldn't be so bad.
Look to games like No Mans Sky, and absolutely fabulous community, most likely because the game is headed in a great direction and standing strong, with very transparent developers who show passion and drive to their community,

Personally I think the forum mods have started to do a great job. No more gatekeeping, and those people getting special treatment while enforcing their own opinions on others.

Some people were pretty.. yeah.
Others I found nice though. Most of the Mods are fine.

All forums are like that. I am banned from Overwatch right now for saying that if you couldn't deal with Brig, you suck. It is kind of cringe. Say what you will about this place, I don't see people getting silenced for something that mild. If they did, surely I would have been a victim of it by now.
Anyways, after trying Reddit for a bit, eh.

Dog half the posts on here are either people whining about the absolute dumbest ######### I've ever seen because they suck at the game or people complaining about the game being broken all the time.
2 -
You never get mad at something you don’t care about.

I'm guessing if the devs stopped doing things like purposely trying to hide the mechanics they introduce, after "working" to "develope" them for a considerable amount of time, then start trying to prevent people from discussing those mechanics when players figure them out and reveal they were so poorly and simply designed that they obviously didn't spend more than 10 min coming up with them, then they wouldn't get so much hate thrown their way.
Or maybe if they fixed some of the bugs within a year of them being discovered (anyone knownif they ever fixed that one achievement that was supposed to require you to escape with a single down but actually required the whole team to escape with only a single down ?)
Or maybe they could test their releases for game crashing bugs in a half way competent manner so not everything gets released with bugs.
Dorsnt seem to me that the people complaining aren't justified
This post is in no way a criticism of the dbd devs and should not be taken as such. It is also not intended to point out any forum rules being violated both of which are understood to be against forum rules.

They said the same thing about reddit, but it's still thriving....
.. :)

Not necessarily better. Considering what the Reddit Hivemind can say about you if you have any slight bit of disagreements.
Think fnaf doesn't fit DBD? Think that the game could do without moris and keys? Think a killer should be nerfed?
They'll just bombard you with statements telling you you're wrong.
2 -
That was caused by lack of transparency on BHVR's part. If they said something, this 'hysteria' you speak of would calm down.
The fact is, that sort of thing happens all the time with unsecure games on a sometimes stupidly monitored PS Store, and it's not hard to do either (It's MUCH easier to create a game that just bricks systems than a functional one). As well as that, if people had any faith left in BHVR in the first place it wouldn't be as much of a panic as it currently is.
Also, I don't really see any mass reporting coming from anyone. If it happens and it actually goes through, it's on the mod team for going through with it.

Game Forums 101.
Any complaints I agree with are genius, and the devs need to implement them immediately or they don't care about the playerbase.
Any complaints I disagree with are whining, spam or histrionics and should probably result in an immediate forum ban.

- Huh? I doubt all of that. I see no proof of any of it, even if people get riled up (for a good reason, mind you).
- The transparency needed, and the hysteria that ensued, was because multiple reports of the same thing occurring in the same timespan. Everyone was doubtful of the first post about it, but the more people reported it the less doubt there was. It could legitimately be a hacker, but it's statistically more likely that Dead by Daylight has just become too unoptimized and is frying people's consoles.
- I don't see... Any of that? There are always rotten eggs on a forum, and ignoring that I really don't see what you're talking about.

I find that quite amusing that the DbD forum's are....some how slightly better with others ideas and opinions.....

Most people tend to go to forums to vent after having rough matches.
And then you have a bunch of people who are frustrated fueling eachother.
Sometimes merited, sometimes not.
Most of the time forums are a vocal minority and don't really represent what people really think about the game or whatever topic.
1 -
Probably because opposing opinions aren't downvoted to oblivion.
That USED to be a thing on the forums btw, but the mods removed the ability to downvote somebody.

It's a tough one. Much like the whole 'DRM kills SSDs' hoax, this is the internet and a story can be spread at light speed.
That said, there is a lot of hacking in this game, and this sort of story lies just within the realms of believability that it's easy to get taken in.
That's why fake news and gossip are so powerful online. It turns into 'well, you can't prove that it didn't happen' extremely quickly.

While I agree that there is doubt to be had since there isn't any clear evidence presented in those threads.
I also don't want to give BHVR and this game the benefit of the doubt, since I have had experiences in the past where my computer completely hanged or shut down while playing this game.
Regardless, if this pushes the devs to actually work on optimizing the game on both console and PC, I'm more than willing to spread awareness to it.

Excellent post.
This is the kind of objective standard that is conducive to evaluating a situation.

In what little time I gave myself to research this I've not seen one, even one complaint about a console being bricked specifically because of a cheater. In any game, or even any console.
What I have seen is that the new firmware update for, you guessed it, PS4 has been having issues... and that update was sent out last month.
So I think our culprit here is really just lack of information... the guy was obviously furious and needed to blame someone. But he also didnt provide any information about the events prior to the crash. Or even what state his PS4 is currently in... anything really.
For all we know his console is refurbished. There are plenty more reasonable explanations for their problem than a cheater who mysteriously crashed their console on purpose. No reason go straight for the pitchforks when we know so little as it is.

If people don't like reading comments on a Forum then why log in?

Not true. When developers are listening to the community, there are way less bash discussions on the game forum.
Exemples ? Valorant, Battlefield 4/1/5, Battlefront 2, L4D1/2 etc...
2 -
If the game wasn't broken all the time, people wouldn't complain about it being broken all the time.

I'm pretty sure it's the same mods there too. I don't really know but the rules there are dumb too.

true.
nowadays i rarely see anyone from the old forum days... most either left on their own accord or got banned for BHVR-knows-what :(
honestly, i'm surprised that i'm still here...

Same.
honestly, I’ve been here for years and just don’t post much. I’m sure there are a lot of other forum/game veterans who’re the same and have a lower than usual post count as a result

You've...clearly never been on a gaming forum before :D.

The DBD subreddit is very well moderated, and has a much larger variety of potential posts than the forums. The forums are very tight in their range of discussion, much unlike the subreddit. They serve different purposes i suppose, but the reddit is quite good.

I disagree. Only a few games have these types of crowds, dbd near the top of that list.

Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 were infinitely worse forums wise. As was the original DOTA (haven't really looked at DOTA 2).
The WoW forums have been one long whingy dramafest lasting almost 2 decades. While shorter, Aeon and Rift were just as bad while they were a thing. Hell, the only MMO I can think of that didn't have a poisonous forum offhand is FF, and that game is notoriously overmoderated, and even asking someone politely to do a mechanic differently can get you an in-game ban.
The MKX forums were a nightmare.
League of Legends? Smite? Woof.
Probably nothing will ever touch the EVE Online forums though for sheer insanity.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I've never been one for Reddit, but I just want to be able to speak my mind without worrying about it being deleted or re-written, and then me subsequently banned when literally no forum rules have even come close to being broken.

What even counts as "Old Forum days"
Are we talking like, pre-redesign or back when there was a Survivor and Killer sub-forum
0 -
i didnt necessarily have any specific timeline in mind, just... people that used to be around a lot and nowadays just arent anymore.
Orion, GoodBoyKaru, FireHazard, etc.
(pretty sure all 3 of the mentioned are still here, just gotten rather inactive over the time - well, if Karus ban is a temporary one)
i would count you as one of the OGs btw.
if that somehow helps you depict a timeline xD

This whole forum is one giant meme; no point taking it seriously

It would actually help if they would show us what they are seeing to influence these balance decisions instead of just saying "because fun" All that does is lead you to the conclusion that x main went to twitter and cried while wearing out the leave game button every time unfun thing was used.
Balance---> window

The situation has indeed changed a bit. People were once regulars don't show up much anymore.
Many left, and others were banned.

These forums are almost exclusively killers crying about survivors being op...and survivors crying about killers being op...and both sides claiming they don't ever cry about things.
It is kinda that way on ALL game forums. You ever play OW? Oh my GAWD...
nerf this move, nerf that character, buff this character, buff that move, my character sucks and its blizzard personally attacking meeeee whaaaaaaaaaaa. Holy shitballs XD It IS nice though to engage in VERY rare constructive conversation with matters of opinion regarding the state of the game and its mechanics/balance
