True purpose of sbmm
"Conspiracy disclaimer" 🤔
Sbmm is actually a sinkhole designed to drag the solo survivors to what the devs consider casual performance level. Due to escaping being the rating factor, matchmaking can now be more easily adjusted to discredit the notion of high skill survivors.
Example:
When first introduced, the system allowed for better pairing of "equal" survivors. I both witnessed and experienced a higher caliber of teamwork. This however was short lived as a solo player.
As a response to this greater survivor efficiency, more killers began focusing down target survivors. Eliminating one at a time proves more effective than whittling down and juggling the four.
The result here is that the individual is now pulled out of the respective skill group in order to be placed against an "easier" opponent, but in fact paired with less efficient teammates.
This is where the sinkhole/vacuum begins. Where swf may lose the match, the team skill never diminishes. Solos on the other hand may perform well individually but are almost held in place based on team performance. A solo escape doesn't guarantee an increase in rating. To climb the ranks back to equal skill requires that teammates at least help you to reach the gates.
Summary:
This decline in competent solo squads and disportinate match ups add to the devs data that the game is improperly balanced for their casual goal. Those that outperform teammates will continue to be held back, incapable of providing beneficial data to the contrary. Were survivors graded on actual performance within the match, we may have seen greater and more accurate adjustments to benefit the entire community.
While this is completely speculative, where do you think a majority of the solo population will come to rest?
Where will the data take the game?

I kinda agree with this.
I used to be a rank 4/5 back in the old ranks but now I feel like my games are just with the old Brown/yellow ranks.
In the end sbmm was just about what I feared: escapes. And to be fair I barely used to escape 5/10 times in the old matchmaking. But now I barely escape 2/10. I used to consider pipping as a win for me, but the thing is: an average killer is way better than an average Solo Q team in low MMR, so at the end of the day, I feel like my games are being too much casual for my taste. But it is what it is...
