How would you rework Predator?
I'd probably make it so that there's an outline (like survivors have when hit while under the effect of borrowed time or mettle of man, or how sleeping survivors look in the dream world) and that scratch marks can't be hidden.
that, or adding the outline to shadowborn and keeping the scratch marks thing for predator.
Edit:
Current Idea based on discussion:
Scratch marks cannot be supressed by perks. (if this one goes through, this part of the perk would have to be a hex or run on tokens. Maybe these tokens would require getting hooks/hits/downs to gain more?)
Survivors also leave scratch marks while walking (but not while crouching) - this buffs urban evasion.
Scratch marks Last 1/2/3 seconds longer - (optional)

Survivors always leave scratchmarks, even while walking and crouching

good idea.
maybe just make it so "survivors always leave scratch marks, no matter what"?
maybe also, auras can't be hidden except for lockers.
(I'm not salty about shadow step, just, in advance)

I like it. Would most def give it some run time.

if it could make it so scratch marks didnt show up on walls. That would be awesome.
1 -
doesn't it already do that?

It would be broken asf. It would become instantly meta and outclass every single tracking perk in the game.

After a survivor escapes chase, their aura is revealed for 5 seconds.

maybe it just blocks perks that block scratch marks?
maybe it could be a hex?

Survivors just have to adapt, like killers hate to adapt to boons

Yes, they'd just need to not move so they won't leave scratch marks 5head.

Good idea. Also if it would counter hidden scretch marks if you near them (like only you can see them close range, few meters) would be nice as well.

I’d change it so that the scatchmarks you see are very clearly indicating in which direction the survivor ran. Maybe also add specific colour-coding or specific shapes to help distinguish between specific survivors’ scratches.

The main downside to Predator is just that because the scratches are so close together it prevents them from appearing on walls which makes seeing them at a distance harder. If Predator put 90% of the scratches in the tight area and allowed 10% to go further out then you’d still get a super clear path of where the survivor went and also still get occasional marks higher up at eye level on walls that you can spot from far away.
Also, I think it would be interesting if Predator mitigated some of the effect of Shadowstep, a bit like Iron Will and Stridor are supposed to mitigate each other. (Although currently Iron Will 3 completely negates Stridor but that’s another topic). So maybe have Predator allow, say, 20% of scratches hidden by Shadow Step to still be visible for instance. Enough that there’s still a faint trace of them but not enough to make a super clear trail.

Survivors leave both sets of scratch marks. Both the default and Predator marks so scratches splashing up onto walls and trees for better long range visibility can still happen but you also have the tight, easier to track marks from Predator.
If that's still not enough... then one/some of the following further buffs can also be applied.
- Increase Scratch Mark duration by 1/2/3 seconds. This additional time cannot be blocked by perks like Dance With Me, Poised, and Lucky Break.
- Scratch mark blocking perks still block the default scratches but not Predator's special ones (or vice versa).

maybe shadow step should just be nerfed to cause you to spawn fewer scratch marks instead of none?

cool idea. maybe a lessened version could be added to lethal pursuer, but only for 1/2/3 seconds

I don’t know if Shadowstep is actually overpowered overall, but if it is there are ways to tweak it sure. (Allow some scratches, or reduce the radius, or make it only hide auras sometimes, etc). Even if Shadowstep isn’t overpowered in general, though, I still think it would be an interesting mechanic to make Predator kind of be a counter to it.

that's kinda what I was thinking.
I think it's really important to maintain the perceived balance of power in DBD to keep the storytelling alive. if someone's desperate enough to facecamp, that's a big immersion breaker, for example.
