Why are people saying that The Artist is too strong?

RenRen
RenRen Member Posts: 1,443

I haven't played the PTB but from what I've seen from various streamers, she does not seem close in strength to Blight or Nurse. Are they really complaining about how strong she is or is it just how fun she is to go against?

Side note: Why do I see posts about buffing Overcome and nerfing Hex: Pentimento, am I missing something?

I play both side, I love killers

I agree that the artist is a little too strong, because of her 4.6 speed and far attact.

But, the really too strong one, is the boon totem, because of its range, too big.

I think the boon totem's range should be 10M or less, if you want to do a powerful boon.

Now, it's too hard for killer players, and too easy for survivor players.

For example, it is too easy to do gen rush.

Because they form opinions off of seeing the killer for 30 seconds the day of a PTB release.

I only trust Zubat. And he said she's gonna get nerfed. That's enough for me.

Hold W and predrop pallets. Basically you just leave loops and try to waste as much time as possible for your team to do gens by running straight as possible and putting obstacles between the killer and you, which at this time is windows and pallets.

Predrop pallets meaning getting rid of all pallets within the first chase? Good idea, sounds like a cool counter.

Hold W? Yeah, running in a straight line from a 4.6 m/s killer and going down in 15-20 seconds sounds like a counter too. That's how all rank 20's played back when ranks were a thing.

I didn't say it was "cool" but that's the counter. I don't think anyone likes it. Also I don't mean mindlessly drop them, you can pick and choose when its appropriate.

its a lot more than 10-20 seconds, you're looking at 40-70 depending on most killers. Not sure about exact time on the new one because new but its better than trying to loop an anti-loop killer.

Killers can't down in time to keep up with gens by doing so.

Because you have to even slightly change how you play against her.

That's a surefire way to get survivors crying "OP!"

She has some questionable features, like getting damage when going through idle crows, and the ability to shotgun crows when spamming them to cover a cone-shaped area.

She basically has Freddy snares that do damage instead and that can be fired across the map and through walls.

I guarantee you that in her ptb state she'll be a meta killer in tournaments.

I highly doubt she's gonna see nerfs before launch.

Knowing bhvr, she'll ship as is, then they'll gradually change some numbers

She's really not that strong imo. Her most defining feature is to shut down loops and information. That's generally it. From my experience (I say this as an iri Huntress player) its hard to make use of the launch birb ability. And any survivor that i've seen that understands how being shut down in terms of their loops, just walk away to the next loop. So you waste your bird. Shes an m1 killer with the ability to stop loops to make M1ing easier. There are a lot of things that stop her from being really good. (I think A tier. Wouldn't say S tier)

    Huntress is better <3

    Junylar Member Posts: 2,005

No, throwing the whole game by depleting all pallets just to survivor extra 15 seconds is not a counter.

40-70 seconds - maybe for the first chase, but once there are no pallets on the map - it's 10-15 seconds at most.

    Can you beat her? Absolutely.

But you can't loop her. Like, at all. Ever. So you just have to hold W.

And i'm not sure if that's something you really want to be encouraging.

yeah huntress, blight and spirit are better than her.

if im being honest, my first impression of her is "Deathslinger on steroids".

she is just as, if not more oppressive as he was prior to his nerf in loops and she has significantly less of a downside in comparison to him.

i mean, she gets 3 shots before she "reloads", her shots can penetrate walls, shes 4.6 m/s, she doesnt require a direct LoS to hit and she doesnt have to reel anyone in.

ofc those are day 1 thoughts, but still... she kinda reminds me of my favourite cowboy in a way... which just makes me question the Slinger nerfs even more. like, whats the point of nerfing him when you release a new Killer who is essentially a direct upgrade to him right afterwards?

You can loop her as much as any other strong antiloop killer. Say, do you stay in a loop vs PH, deathsliner, nurse, spirit, blight, trickster, victor, hag, huntress etc.

All of these killers have favorable and unfavorable loops but in general, you do your best to get as far away from them every time. It's the same with every killer to gain as much distance as possible.

She's new and I doubt any survivors are right now actually good at looping her. Besides flashlights and juking I imagine people will start to figure out how to properly get rid of swarm and chain loops so that you loop her while her crows are on CD.

On PTB basically all artists were very easy to loop (at least for me) so from my POV it's blight over again, good ones you can't loop, bad ones you destroy.

If she dont change she have the potentiel to be a top 3 killer and that what we need. The skill ceilling with her is insane too if you lose with her its because you play badly and no because of some BS the average killer need to deal with. I think shes going to be phenomenal in the right hand and a bad killer in the average killer player if she dont change

I didn't try playing her on the PTB since I didn't want to wait forever for a lobby. I only played against her and every single one of them struggled hardcore just like Trickster PTB. Not sure of her power level since PTB has no skill levels being matched, so I honestly don't know where she will fall.

In her current state, she is very strong and I believe she requires some tweaks here and there to be in a healthier position. Otherwise, I imagine she will turn into the new Spirit that will make people DC on the first chase. I have been playing for a bit over a year and I have never said I consider a Killer to be too strong on release, but I do make the announcement with this one.

I find absurd how she can down people from across whole sets of structures (it happened to me ridiculously often) and how she can cancel a set to go for a M1 in less than a second or even do a setting and go for an M1. Idle crow-heads should also not cause damage when a Survivor passes by, I'm all in for giving a Survivor the flock, but taking a health state is ridiculous.

  • RenRen
    RenRen Member Posts: 1,443

I don't see how this makes her super strong though. She literally looks like a Pyramid Head that has worse chase but better 1v4. Also her power isn't super spammable so you can't just keep firing crows.

  • RenRen
    RenRen Member Posts: 1,443

I'm pretty sure she can only down you with crows that go through walls if you have crows swarming you already. Also the whole Power cancel to m1 is literally something that Trickster, Huntress, Demogorgon, Pyramid Head and Deathslinger can do. Idle crows only do damage if you have crow swarm iirc.

If you're using all the pallets in the first chase you're doing it wrong unless that chase is going to last the whole game or the vast majority of it. Like I said you don't just drop every pallet you see. If you try to wait for an anti-loop killer at a loop, you'll have to predrop that pallet immediately and you'll probably get hit anyway and do the same at the very next loop.

You save more time by making them have to play catchup to get into their effective range as much as possible then you use a pallet, thus actually stretching out your resources as much as you can.

But yes, a bad survivor will just predrop every single pallet and use them all up, but we shouldn't balance around bad survivors.

    elpoh Member Posts: 222

    Becase she is...

The best way to play her, is the same as Freddy, but instead of slow survivors speed, you damage them.

Just put a crow in the pallet, another in the window, and chase him full W, if the survivor walk inside the giant crow is the same as being hit by the flyning ones...

Because they don't know how to counter her from a day or 2 on the PTB that very few people actually played due to the hackers and DDOSing shutting down all the big streamers.

I've never seen so few content creators on the PTB for such a small amount of time; the killer changes that came last patch got more testing on the PTB than the new killer has had.

I just find it funny how in the patch right after they nerfed Slinger for "lose-lose" situations for survivors they release a killer that can literally block loops and unlike Trapper and Hag still moves while doing it.

She is hella fun to play as though.

We know this isn't true. We have Nurse, Huntress, Blight, Oni, etc... They are strong and don't receive a lot of hate.

  • GannTM

Those killers have gotten plenty of hate lol. Someone already made a thread complaining about Huntress like an hour ago…

Because, as always, people will howl about a killer being OP the first couple times they face him/her, only to realize a few games later that it just required an adjustment in playstyle.

My issue with nerf demands is that what they want nerfed is the core design of the killer, which is extremely strong 1v1. It's not some weird accident that we keep getting killers like that. That's the intent. And if you nerf a killer like that, they're just far worse because you nerfed what the devs designed as their primary strategy and way to win.

  • IronKnight55
    IronKnight55 Member Posts: 2,979

I'm saying they don't get a lot of hate on here. Of course a few people will complain, but I think the majority of people think those killers are fine.

It seems like a majority of people also think Spirit is fine after her nerf, with probably even more people thinking she’s trash now (even though those people are just as wrong). Only the people that want her gutted and unfun to play think she’s still BS. And shocker, those people also complain about other killers who are actually optimal. Spirit along with all those killers you mentioned (except Nurse) are balanced and don’t need changes.

  • danielmaster87

Because she has control in chase instead of the survivors having it.

I don't encourage it but BHVR certainly does especially with the perk Overcome.

It's usually because of certain perks/addons they love to use. Most people I've seen say Blights basekit is fine.

I must've missed a few posts because I haven't seen that many complaining about the new killer. In fact it's a lot less than I'm expecting.

I'd say people are complaining about the fact you can't really loop her.

My question is how can the next killer after Artist be any better in chase than this one? The last few killers have been difficult to loop against, with 0 map mobility so I'm expecting the next killer to be the same.

  • Kurri
    Kurri Member Posts: 1,599

She's a skill based killer that can reflect the skill of the player. Therefore survivors want her nerfed so she's easy to play against.

New Survivors need bloodpoints, so they complain about every killer.
