Do you think VHS will kill DBD?

I personally think it could put DBD in hot water giving how the game looks GOOD, it's nostalgic, it looks well polished and most of all it WORKS if your game can't even do that then congratulations your game is BROKEN.

but enough about my opinion what's yours?

    No and I hope so.

If hope so as in hope it kills DBD, then yeah this is my closest answer. I don't want it to actually kill DBD, I just want it to step its game up, but I doubt that'll happen. I want to be wrong though.

It's not going to kill the game, but it should give it some competition especially after them decimating a lot of goodwill recently.

BHVR is always going to have the advantage of recognizable icons.

It won't come even close to Dbds success imo, but I hope it will be enough to compete with dbd

Yeah, like Last Year or Home Sweet Home? lol

Like most people here, I do want some strong competition to DbD. Not just to try out other games, but also to give DbD a reason to improve and polish the game more frequently. To be fair tho, DbD has licensed Killers/survivors, and that's a big upper hand, no matter how many bugs or balancing issues exist at any given time.

But let's be real, these "other" games are the talk of the class for 1 or 2 months top. Then no one says a word for, like, half a year. Playercount goes down and devs don't update frequently. And then, sometime later, people ask: "Hey, remember X game? What happened to it?" --> the game dying on a corner. The reason for this is that they don't bring anything particularly new to the table. Better graphics are nice, but what's critical here is gameplay. Attacking the killer? We've seen that in other games. And those games didn't get much far.

So yes, I want competition to DbD (and I don't think there's real competition to it... yet). But no, I don't want DbD to die. I want options, and like everyone, I want those options to be as good or even better than what we already have. That's all.

    No and I hope so.

I would rather it be competition that makes Behavior work harder to make the game better which is a win win because I get a new game with new interesting gameplay and it makes DBD try to make their game better and something that is more fun to play.

    Of course not.

It is just wishful thinking by people who want to see dbd fall because they feel wronged by bhvr.

I am waiting for it and I want to play it.

I certainly hope it would grow to become a competitor to DbD, but it just not gonna kill it, periodt. It just doesn't have the same strong base.

No. Playing as a child is very unappealing to me. But I will still try VHS. I don't think it will kill DBD but it will be OK competition.

I may have misinterpreted it, as I don't want it to kill dbd, but main point is I highly doubt itll go anywhere.

No, at most it will hurt the pc player base. VHS currently doesn't have plans to go to console so at the very least DBD will still have those players. DBD also has the licensed content that brings in alot of players. If VHS were to manage to get some licenses content and get onto consoles then BHVR would definitely need to work harder to keep their player base interested in DBD.

Never in a million years. With any luck, it might be some meaningful competition. Although, I kind of doubt it.

I watched some of the gameplay videos of VHS and not really digging it so far. 🤷‍♂️ Looked more like a shooter than a horror game.

Watching streamers play it, it's a Fortnite version of asymmetrical horror. It goes in the opposite direction that I'd personally like to see: I want more horror, more gore. I want to see more kill animations. I like that VHS is more interactive between the monsters and teens, but I don't like that it's, ya know, Fortnite.

So far, I don't find the monsters very interesting, either. I like the hunters in Identity V a lot more.

    Realistically it won't.

But im holding hopes that its at least good enough to put bhvr on their toes and make them shape up a bit.

    its not going to.

but to me it seems like a cool alternative to play while the DbD Devs are still trying to somehow justify that mess they call SBMM :)

I think and hope so because the survivors are actually fighting back rather than just running like defenseless infants, its like a refresh resident evil resistance , to fight back the killer really nice.

No, and I don't want it to. However I do want it to be up there with DBD, so that DBD is forced to evolve into what we all know it could be. With good competition it'll force behavior to do better. Maybe update their engine, and create a more healthy game state. Otherwise I could see a lot of people, myself included, moving to VHS permanently. Would it kill it? No. But it could knock it down a few pegs

After watching quite a lot of different gameplay on VHS, I still say that, no, VHS will not kill DBD at all. Will it put a dent in the numbers, that's a possibility but DBD and VHS are VERY different styles of games. The only real similarity I can see are that it's asymmetrical and that it has some window vaults. I think if VHS is able to actually stick around where quite a few others have(sadly) failed, both games can coexist and take inspiration from each other and make each other better in the long run.

VHS is its own thing and should be appreciated as its own thing rather than in comparison to a game that has been out five years and has had the benefit of getting into the genre early enough to dominate the market.

If we go by the law of averages things aren't in VHS's favor as there have been a alot of assym horror games made across the spectrum and most of them are dead, dying, or failed to thrive from jump. How much of that has to do with dbd? Not much actually, the others usually fail on their own merits.

RE Resistance: Weird balance, zero long term support

RE Verse: See above, but somehow even worse

Gold Express: Dead in the water

Last Year: Two tries, still can't thrive

Hunt Showdown: It made the right call and just went and did something different enough it is hard to compare

    F13: Death By Lawsuit

The list goes on, but you get the picture.

Nah that game lacks the polish DBD has. Also lacks the franchise killers everyone knows and loves.

Some competition might make the devs GAF, but it there's only room for one game like this, there wouldn't be so much money in it.

It will cause some player drain, many of us will play both but angry/frustrated players will have somewhere to go. Maybe BHVR will act like they like the players.

I guess it depends on your definition. I use it to mean a minor, so a teen would be a child.

I prefer to play as crusty, crotchety old survivors like Bill. 😁

    child

a young human being below the age of puberty or below the legal age of majority.

Dbd is too good at making players feel like they are progressing towards something with all the little numbers, skins and unlockables.

Huge amount of well known licensed characters constantly bring new people in.

While I don't agree with recent direction the game is going (New map design (balance-wise, it looks dope actually)) hit validation, buff to Iron Will ect) it is and will be best in it's unique genre.

I also really like the concept of the Entity.

Yeah, but the stereotypical slasher flick involves a masked psycho killing teenagers. Bill's the old guy that said "You're all gonna die up there!" but then comes to help.

This keeps happening every single time an asym game is released... people thought the same thing about Home Sweet Home Survive, look how that turned out.

It's not impossible, but it's going to take a lot in order to pull this off.

    No and I hope so.

This game has so much advertisement and branding

Really, if you were just some dude scrolling through Steam looking for something to play for a bit with his buds, which would you pick? The one with thousands of positive reviews, brand recognition, and years of updates... or some Fortnite-esque copycat (not my opinion, but probably what most think) 3 pages into the Specials category.

The quality of the games doesn't really matter. DbD is just so recognizable and established.
