Killers - When is the only time you actually give Hatch?

Sometimes during the game i do see most not all give hatch to at least one survivor at the end of the game, sometimes it happens if they see most of there team DC, or most times they just stop mid game and start Farming, <<< this esp has happend to me in alot of pig games, ghost face, trickster, Freddy, ect . So my question is what has to be the reason u mainly give that last survivor hatch? and not gone lie sometimes they give hatch to the wrong survivor, like someone who hides all game and never get caught - ive had that happen plenty of times as well

If you dont give hatch at all then this discussion is not for you lol .-. I know its alot of killers who would say "why would i give hatch to a survivor"

I let 1 or 2 survivors go most of the time if I dominate.

Almost every game I win. Unless I am doing 4k challenge from archives.

If I have 4 BBQ stacks and 3 people are dead, last one is always mercy sometimes even 2 last survivors if we are on last gen and it wont take long to finish

Generally speaking, if I feel that the game has been a fun and fair one where the survivors weren't trying to be too cocky, or if I notice that the last guy left played well and just got unlucky/screwed over by their team. Multiple DCs also generally spur me to let the last person have hatch, because that match is basically a wash anyway.

I give hatch to the rats.

Those who keep trying to win the match despite their team mate sitting in a locker across the map.

I don't give it to anyone. If there team dcs or dies etc that's not my problem.

I usually do it unless I have a challenge or there is not one survivor that I liked.

If I had fun and the thing is nearby. If I'd have to wait for you to find it and we're close... eh. I want to move on, please.

Pretty much every game unless I need the kills for a challenge.

Very occasionally I'll be playing nice and the last person is pissing me off for some reason (teabagging, or just refusing to find hatch or running away from me when I'm clearly trying to let them have the hatch but the refuse to be herded towards it) and I just say ######### it and hook them.

    Counterquestion:

How often do you see survivors give free kills when the game is about to end with a 0k?

Letting the last survivor leaving, all the time with hatch or door depending if i want to give him/her the "ahah got you, i have closed the hatch, what you gonna do ?" vibe and then i show the door :).

If they are cute, i let the last two escaping, i don't care winning, everyone needs to have fun.

However, if a survivor is not helping the others, exemple if this survivor prefers to hide instead of unhooking someone while i'm on the other side of the map, i have no mercy and if i have the possibility to kill him/her, i do it, without tunneling.

And even if it is not the subject, i find the SBMM being a terrible implementation, i thought it would be good but i was wrong, it removes the casual aspect of the game and dying feels like a punishment while before it was just well, go next game.

I generally give hatch if I hear it walking last survivor to the hook. That's about it, I don't search all over the map to find it.

On the flip side, I also don't slug for the 4k. If you find it first, good on you.

happens super rarely but I tried to once and the killer carried me to the gate.

If I just happen to find it when I'm carrying the last survivor, then I'll give it to them

    I give hatch a LOT.

Basically, if you didn't teabag me, bring a flashlight, or use Dead Hard... you are getting hatch from me. Or even just the door.

    RaSavage42 Member Posts: 5,549

If I feel like doing that I'll let the survivor pick to either leave through the hatch or by a hook

But that doesn't happen a lot recently so... I haven't been up to letting a Survivor go out the hatch

  • Tsulan
    Tsulan Member Posts: 15,095

I can count the times this happend in 2700 hours on 1 hand.

Means, survivors don´t give pity kills. So why should killers give pity escapes?

  • Seraphor
    Seraphor Member Posts: 9,413

I get it. But to be fair, as someone who plays both sides, a 3K still feels like a win, while survivors have a completely binary win/lose condition. So the more apt comparison would be "how often do you let all four survivors escape?"

  • StarLost
    StarLost Member Posts: 8,077

    I do it quite frequently.

If a really good survivor has had a potato team, I'll try to give them hatch or gates.

If a team has been particularly enjoyable to play against and (more importantly) hasn't teabagged or flicked me, I'll sometimes even let two go.

If I get a sense that I'm against an SWF just trying to have fun, I'll attempt to play the same way. If I can, I'll let you go on two hooks.

I do it a fair bit.

    What determines it is:

    • How much fun did I have? If you've given me a really great game without using cheeseball loops/annoying offerings etc. I'll probably try to let 2 of you go on 2 hooks if I can manage it.
    • If any member of your team has been BM/abused pseudo-infinites excessively/brought an offering for RPD, Badham, Haddonfield or further hooks - no mercy for any of you.

    However:

    This.

It's happened once - and that was an incredibly BM SWF smurfcomp just out to make the killer miserable. I think one of them felt bad at the conduct of his mates.

Pre MMR always unless I was that desprate for BP now that Im considered a worse player for it very rarely unless they get hard sandbagged by their team.

I advise against giving the hatch to any survivor.

Most likely, u are rewarding toxic Survivors who deserve to die.

Hatch should be given to noobs w less than 100 hours.

Or given to the player who are trying to complete objectives. This person needs to be let go. Instead, killers needs to go whack the other survivor whose hiding in lockers for the last 10 mins of the game.

My killer just gave me the hatch after all three of my teammates disconnected, so maybe then?

  • Laluzi
    Laluzi Member Posts: 6,223

I always give hatch unless I have a rift/achievement that requires a 4k or the last remaining survivor did something I didn't like - BMed me, let their teammates die, sandbagged, hid for 15 minutes, etc.

Though sometimes, if I find the hatch before the survivor, I sit on the hatch and force the survivor to boop me or give me their item before I'll move off of it.

I just give it to whoever doesn’t wiggle when they’re the last one. Which is weird because Everyone Always Wiggles When They Are The Last One Left! I swear there’s no point in it, so I end up hooking the last one anyway. The last time I gave someone hatch was like 3 weeks ago! Just stop wiggling please I’ll let you escape!

    Often.

No need to boost that MMR higher than it needs to be.

  • anarchy753
    anarchy753 Member Posts: 4,212

    Rarely.

Usually it's if it comes down to two survivors and I can see one trying to do the gens and the other hiding and waiting for the first to die. I'll actively hunt the immersed one to make sure they die instead.

If I had fun in that match I let the last survivor escape if I don't have a challenge for it. If it wasn't fun, I kill them all.

    This logic is backwards.

Now that MMR is based purely on kills/escapes, you want as many hooks with as few kills as possible.

You're just digging your own pit of misery.

  • TheSubstitute
    TheSubstitute Member Posts: 2,495

Nearly always as long as there was no teabagging. The only exceptions are if they let one of their teammates one hook or let the second last teammate go from the start of two hook to nothing without even attempting a rescue. In that case, if I find the survivor or the hatch first I kill them. If somebody plays altruisticlly and works on objectives then I'm far more likely to let them go. If they're selfish I'll be far more likely to kill them.

If the person was being screwed by their teammates, a survivor looped me really well and showed skill, did their best to save their teammates even if they knew they were dead and finally, if I like the character. I'm looking at you, Pop Pop (Bill).

What really grinds my grapes is SWF groups where you have two left, one goes right to hatch, the other leads you off and deliberately DCs.

I let someone live every time I win and sometimes even when I don't. I have also been known to let more than one live Nancy/Steve last 2 left....I am not killing that. I hate killing Nancy's and only will if I have to. I like to close hatch and let them open gate and leave (MMR reasons).

I actually stopped giving hatch because of the MMR system and my fear of messing with it. I'll consider giving hatch to the good players so that their MMR doesn't go down, though.

  • sizzlingmario4
    sizzlingmario4 Member Posts: 6,905

I let someone escape more often than not (but not always). Sometimes more than 1.

However, if I see that someone is waiting for hatch and not trying anymore (eg. waiting in a random locker - especially with left behind which I’ve been seeing a lot more lately), I will go out of my way to make sure they die.

  • Edilibs
    Edilibs Member Posts: 699

You cant say that because everyones different and do things for different reasons. Personally if its the end of a trial and im in a critical situation where i need to survive Im putting that big ass red medkit down as to increase my chances of survival ie not to be seen by the killer.

The way i perceive it is that survivors are putting they're item down as like a "ok you found me and theres nothing i can do so just get it over with" The item will do them no good in those situations.

Eh I know if I wanna keep my MMR static but I have just come back after a while of not playing and my MMR is so ######### I can 4k on 5 gens with speed limiter Billy.

My giving hatch depends on the situation. If there was a DC in the match, I usually give the hatch to someone, unless the DC was a rage quit and I suspect they were part of a group. If the match was particularly rough, or if I think there was a newbie or two as part of the survivors, I'll give hatch as well to whoever ends up left. I try to make sure it's to someone who was "deserving" (though it's hard to tell sometimes, since I can't always see what's going on elsewhere in the match with what survivors are doing). I refuse to give hatch to people who try to camp it (less likely now since the hatch rework) -- if you let your teammate die on hook and hide while I'm nowhere around and giving you ample opportunity to save, then you're getting no mercy from me. I'm more likely to give hatch playing Pig, especially if the last survivor ends up Booping (that's an automatic free pass whenever I play Piggie).

If the match has been rough for me -- macro flashlight clicking, teabagging galore, any BM'ing by any of the survivors -- hatch is pretty much out of the question. I usually assume a full 4-person team at that point (making everyone part of the shenanigans), and if there actually is a random in those situations, unfortunately they won't get mercy from me due to guilt by association with their teammates, lol. Map offerings, or SWF teams with builds meant to harass me (teams that run hook offerings and run sabo/flashlight builds with Breakout who swarm me the minute someone goes down, for example) -- yeah, no one from a team like that is getting any mercy at that point.

I had a match as Plague the other night where I was chasing the last survivor, a Zarina, while we were both looking for the hatch. I got to it just before she did and closed it literally in her face -- she stood on the closed hatch, throwing up, and had the saddest look on their face, lol, I didn't have the heart to finish them off and led them to a door so they could escape. That's a perfect example of how giving hatch or door is completely situational for me and can change at a moment's notice -- I would have finished her off if I'd gotten to her sooner, but her getting that close to getting out changed my mind on letting them escape.

    Usually one of these 3

    2. Its a Jeff

    3. Its a Steve

I give the hatch to the last survivor if I won the match pretty decisively - A show of good sportsmanship.

Otherwise, I like to give it to someone who played really well if I can. I like to mess with survivors sometimes though, like closing hatch and making them touch an exit gate so No Way Out triggers

They usually have enough time to make it out, but it's funny seeing their reactions

  • ukenicky
    ukenicky Member Posts: 1,352

Since hatch doesn't give survivors mmr I will often give the last survivor the hatch if I trounced them all or if 1-2 people DCed (if they dc en masse I usually turn it into a BP farm though).

Additionally I'll also give the hatch if:

They were REALLY good at looping and respectful

Or play as one of my favorite survivors lol

Also if you boop the snoot you ARE getting the hatch

  • Jplanas98
    Jplanas98 Member Posts: 532

It depends. If most of the team DC's and there's only one player left, I'll give them hatch depending on whether or not I was able to actually play a bit. Like if I managed to 2 hook almost everyone and then some of the survivors DC, then I have no problem giving hatch since I managed to get some BP. Otherwise I still kill them.

I'll also sometimes give hatch if I've noticed that one player is actually trying while the rest of their team isn't doing ######### the entire game, or even intentionally farms them. Or if they're last and they show that they've pretty much given up, I might let them have hatch.
