To Cleanse Or Not To Cleanse?

I ask this because I am a FIRM believer in NOT cleansing against Plague. Without her corrupt in which she has only one fountain without addons she is simply an M1 killer which leaves he weak as heck imo. Why do people cleanse if you are a cleanser that is. You only give her more power by doing so. Let me know I am super curious as to a reason for cleansing. Also each game where randoms cleansed the Plague won but every match where they dont we get a good number of us out.

One of the big strats for Plague players is to make hook rescuing nigh impossible

Think about it, if everyone is infected and refuses to cleanse - then every hook save will be unsafe and plague players can really capitalise on this.

Sure you might be able to crank out some gens, but if there's a 3 gen involved or if the person is 2nd stage then you're in trouble once it's a 3v1 with everyone permanently injured

I always cleanse as soon as possible but I make sure if I do that, I don't immediately reinfect myself with a hook rescue/touching a green generator.

I'll also cleanse mid-chase if I can in order to get the Plague to drink from the fountain I cleansed from. 99% of the time she'll consume the fountain and that gives me time to get a lot of distance and break line of sight. Good luck team!

You shouldn’t cleanse at all unless all generators have finished, it’s better to take a down for what is effectively m1 killer as opposed to turning her into a super huntress that can easily snowball with infectious fright and down your whole team.

Got to love those survivors that feed her that power by cleansing, only to get sick again seconds later because they have to unhook an infected survivor or repair an infected gen.

As someone who's been playing a lot of Plague recently:

If in doubt, Cleanse. If you feel safe, hang on. If not many people have been cleansing for a while - cleanse.

It's easier to dodge my red vommy than it is to avoid my perma NOED. Plus, unless you are coordinating, I'm getting my pools anyway and then you are really in trouble.

I'll also fairly frequently run the iri that gives me auras on anyone vomiting, because so many teams refuse to cleanse. It's...incredible.

Don't cleanse/always cleanse both give me a lot of free wins. It usually isn't a big deal to reinfect you and perma red is very strong.

You have to be aware of how many infected people are playing and how many pools I have at my disposal.

Where I start running into issues is groups that know roughly where I am and always run to the furthest pool to cleanse. This can completely nullify me.

Unless there’s a line of sight blocker there’s no way in hell you should ever miss Corrupt Purge, you have no idea how quick I can down survivors when there’s no tall object for cover. They’ll go down before the speed burst of the first hit runs off.

Trust me, it’s better to play safe and be generous with pallet drops before taking a down then it is to have a Plague snowball. Survivors that are running all the way to a corner to cleanse and then go back are wasting time not doing generators which is what they should be doing and can easily do by keeping Plague a m1 killer

Granted, I'm nowhere near the best Plague in the world, but even at my likely intermediate MMR, survivors have gotten pretty savvy regarding dodging it.

You really start to notice how many crouchable-barriers maps have when you play Plague.

They are also quite smart at juking little pukes or turning 90 degrees into an obstacle for longer ones.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. It's entirely possible we are just playing at different MMRs.

As a frequent Plague player, I am a big fan of survivors who refuse to cleanse. Yeah, just an M1 killer, but with 4 broken survivors, I still feel at a huge advantage. And I'm getting at least one run of corrupt purge regardless of what the survivors do.

And hitting survivors with corrupt purge can be a really fickle thing, I'll take sure one hit down over trying to chase survivors down and puke on them twice more often than not.

As a survivor, I cleanse as soon as I hit the injured state.

Also, at higher MMR survivors seem (to me) to be able evade the vomit much more frequently. Corrupt purge is really only game alteringly lethal when survivors let themselves be caught out in the open, or in proximity. Good survivors tend to spread out and run loops much netter, which really hinders the snowball potential of the red vomit.

Plague gameplay isn't as simple as always/never. React to the situation, what your teammates are doing, and what the killer's tactics are. If they're hard slugging with Corrupt Purge, stop giving them more ammo. If all the pallets are gone, they're proxy camping hooks, or they seem to locate you when you're sick uncannily well, cleanse. Cleanse if she already has a bunch of fountains - resetting them is your best-case scenario as a team. Don't cleanse if you're going to get infected again in the next minute or so (obviously don't do it if you're about to save a fully infected person, but also if the Plague is keeping a tight lockdown on infected objectives, or everyone else is sick so the gens are all infected anyway.)

Maps also play a factor - you can afford to give Plague more fountains if the fountain spawns are awful and bundled against the walls (Swamp is a huge offender), or if it's an indoor map and you have tons of LoS blockers. Be warier of giving her fountains on open maps or low loop maps like Coldwind or Ormond.

    This.

What'll almost always happen is I'll get a down, slug, down someone else, hook both of them and then proxy. It's usually a way easier game than if people were cleansing at least somewhat.

There are also not-infrequent times where I'll see they aren't cleansing, grab my pool and then go completely monkey bananas on them.

I don't cleanse until end game. I'm solo. And my teammates are scrubs or purposely sabotaging the game.

Yeah that is a great strat if she doesnt catch on to it. She can take it faster than you can max it out imo. I just find everytime I have team mates who do cleanse we have a much more difficult time surviving.

Don't cleanse for the most part.

Here are the situations in which you should cleanse:

    • Cleanse to save/trade someone being hard camped.
    • Similarly, cleanse for unhooks at endgame.
    • If she has a good 3 gen going in a deadzone, you've probably got to cleanse.

But in all scenarios make sure you cleanse e.g., where gens have been done, across the map, away from a hooked survivor etc. Wherever it's most inconvenient for the plague.
