Will BHVR now consider trying to make Killer less stressful?
Between today's earlier thread on Survivor queues getting longer, the below reddit thread and my own experience as Survivor as of late, it is clear that there is a greater lack of Killer players in the community, and most of the people who prefer to play Killer typically point to the same thing.
The Killer role is just very, very stressful. Even now, when I've managed to give up on caring about winning or losing, I still get Killer Jitters, and some days I still stop myself from even booting up Dead by Daylight for Killer because of the risk of people actively trying to stress me out. Even when people aren't toxic, it's hard to feel like Killer is a rewarding experience nowadays. I, and I'm sure many others, often feel like Killer gets punished for having a good match with a 3k or 4k by having to play an obscenely strong team next game and get obliterated where 3 gens are done by the time you get the first Hook. The current MMR system only deciding based on kills or escapes doesn't work, and I'll be happy to offer some ideas for how to change it at a later time.
Going back and forth between having a good game and getting utterly wrecked isn't fun.
On top of the typical stress that comes with playing Killer, the game is rife with hackers. Many console players have turned crossplay off, and PC players have no option but to dodge. The hacking has gotten so subtle that it can sometimes be very difficult to tell whether or not a Survivor is cheating or legitimately good.
I remember reading from a BHVR dev once that it particularly stings when players say devs don't care. Personally, I think the devs do care, but the constant outpour of content every 3 months really hurts the devs ability to do QoL stuff and maybe help Killer be a more fun and less stressful experience. Otherwise, more and more people are going to take Cote's advice. Seems like they already are.
I hope that the devs are considering doing something to make Killer less stressful.

Yes, Behavior doesn't care about killers anymore. The problem with all this is the SBMM that only benefits the survivors. I was main killer and stopped playing because it was extremely stressful with the coming of SBMM.

I doubt that. I think a more likely outcome is forcing/bribing people to play killer in some way. Incentives, like they talked before, are likely. They'll just start offering big rewards for anyone willing to put up with it.
12 -
Did they say this is what they'd do? That's pretty heartbreaking and pretty much confirms that Killer and their players are just assets for the Survivor experience.
7 -
They mentioned in the anniversary stream they wanted to start doing incentives if one queue side was too long. IE long killer queues would trigger something to incentivize people to play survivor and vice versa. It wasn't a direct response to killer being more painful (this was before SBMM or boons) but a response to what they might do about lengthening queue issues.
At least I am pretty sure they mentioned that in the anniversary stream unless I lost my mind.

Because the Survivor experience is definitely where the problem's at. Survivor is super relaxing compared to Killer.
7 -
They said something similar to like what Overwatch has in terms of credits for in need roles/tickets, say the killer que is in need you get a bonus to bps ect.
2 -
my issue is the amount of pressure they get from second chances is draining, then they buffed the ######### feeling second chance survivors have. Dead head.

Are we ever going to get grab validation or something like that?
5 -
I'll be playing killer come rain or shine, but I'd love some more BP if they're offering.
1 -
No. Survivors are the main buyers of cosmetics and must be empowered as much as possible.
7 -
Like what? I don't think they'd ever gave any reward for putting up with anything aside from Legacy I guess.

We do have grab validation, but it sucks. It's supposed to make failed grabs translate to hits, but it takes so long for the servers to register that a grab has failed that often you just end up being forced to automatically swing at the air, because the survivor you were trying to grab has already run away by the time the server makes you swing. It's near useless.
Compare this to survivor hit validation, which does its job perfectly - more than perfectly and slightly unfairly, in Dead Hard's case. If grab validation would work the same, the survivor would get rolled back onto the killer's shoulder if they got grabbed on the killer's screen, which would feel awful, so I doubt they're going to improve this.
...even though getting rolled back at pallets is a thing, and they don't seem to be doing anything about this.

I'm tired of people saying that the devs are somewhat justified in having such a poor game state all of the time because "they keep putting out content", basically saying that they need to take a break from making new content to work on the game.
I'm sure there are studios, smaller than theirs, able to put out good content often AND balance, fix bugs, make the game more fun, etc. So that's the standard I hold them to, and I am continually disappointed.
8 -
Off-topic, but I've never seen that image before and it made me laugh harder than it should have.
Thank you.
4 -
Take a break and go play Civilization VI instead.
6 -
That's fair. Just because they're putting out content doesn't mean they don't have time to playtest the current build of the game. But certainly if they weren't busy trying to make concepts and push out everything every 3 months they'd have some time to do a major rebalancing and QoL update.
3 -
I'm not the devs so I can't say but I am sure it would be the same reward it always is: Extra BP.
1 -
My killer queues are still long during the day, we need more of them to quit. Add hit validation to vaulting you cowards!
6 -
I honestly don't think they would. They'd squander their time.

Never. It is intentional.
DBD is not truly a game and is in fact mind control software created by The Order of the Atlantan Oysters, a black budget secret society founded in the 14th century upon rediscovery of Atlantis and its subterranean kingdoms.
BHVR themselves are all of the order, descendants of the spawn birthed from ancient sex rituals within the bowels of Atlantis itself.
Their goal is to pit survivor and killer gamers against one another, consuming their data and offering it to a wretched monolith they name “The Salty One.”
Why? Well, it’s complicated. As they say in Atlantis:
“Wuh mish-vel e'shua avon-telik na' ish-veh faik”
or crudely translated
”{The} {machine} ðyrs {hungers} hwæðre êower {data}”
The emperor of Atlantis craves Oysters, but it has consumed them all. What we know to be Oysters in our world are in fact flawed genetic replications created by the CIA to prevent total destruction of space time.
This worked…for a time, but the emperor is not so easily fooled.
Long story short, a deal was made. The many secret societies of the world now work in tandem to collect the data of every human. This data is offered to The Salty One, and if accepted, is fed into the Large Hardon Collider, which is actually an A.I. codenamed The Mind-Brain. From there, our data is transformed into pure, genetically perfect Oysters for the Emperor itself.
In exchange, we may all live. What happens once our data is fully assimilated? I do not know. But what I do know is, we must continue to play DBD, no matter how torturous the “devs” make it, no matter how insidious, for the sake of the universe itself, we must soldier on.
That’s what I tell myself anyways.

+1 for creativity
large "hardon" collider

😂
Didn’t think anyone would catch that.

I wonder if they see the statistic in general or taking only the games with people playing game properly and dont dc.

What gives me the killer jitters and anxiety is the toxic behavior from survivors when they outplay me. I get looped for days and whenever there is an opportunity for the survivor to BM, they do it.
I just feel like crap when like four people are bullying me, even though I'm the killer! I'm still considered a beginner I guess (around 200 hrs), but every game as killer, even when I don't want to care about winning, I just worry about getting harassed by survivors.
It's so funny when people start saying survivor queues are longer, and then they treat killers like crap due to the broken balance and matchmaking.
Maybe I'm just having the beginner blues. It just sucks being outplayed all the time and I feel powerless, even though I'm supposed to be the big scary killer.
8 -
Also about 200 hours here. And I 100% feel what you're saying.
2 -
The game is frustrating by design. Once you understand the deck is stacked just going with the flow of the match is the best way to keep your sanity.

This is typically the issue with asymmetrical games. Evolve also had it rough with balance but the devs of Evolve felt way more responsive and made a lot of effort in buffing Monster to a point where only at the highest level did it really feel stacked against Monster.
0 -
Exact same for me.
During the day: instant survivor, killer 3+ mins
Nightime: survivor 3 mins, killer instant.

I heard that if you offer the salt pouch or the salty lips in a game that it generates extra faith for the Salty One. Is this true?

Almost all of my killer stress would be relieved if the optimization is fixed.
I can handle getting slammed by a proper coordinated team with strong perks, I can handle personally making mistakes and losing.
But I for the life of me cannot stop myself from freaking tf out when the game is robbing me of hits because of some kind of lag right before. I tried again today to see if it's much better, and I d/c and won't be back on killer untill I'm 100% sure it's fixed or they add cross save and i can move to pc.
I used to be mostly a killer player with survivor sprinkled in so this sucks.
I'm now forced into survivor main position because my mental health cannot take it.

No no you don't idk why people insist on going on these forums and lying are people paying you or something like I don't get what you gain from it
1 -
I think he's just joking around haha
0 -
No, they won't make it less stressful and more fun BUT you can buy the new skins!!
0 -
If you're feeling stressed, that's when you know you're taking a game too seriously. I'm clueless on how a bunch of pixels on your screen moving about can make you feel that way. Take the game as what it is - a game - and you'll start to have fun. This isn't a job, or a hobby or something you're obliged to play - it's a game.
0 -
Games aren't a hobby? Think I have to disagree there. People typically feel emotions, including stress, when they're passionate about something, including their hobbies. I don't get as stressed out as I used to since I stopped taking it as seriously, but I'd still like to have a fun time more often than not and, more often than not, I am putting effort into just staying not stressed.
Maybe your cluelessness comes from a lack of ability to see things as others see them?
1 -
Honestly it might just be overall better to make a non-ranked queue
0 -
I hope they dont view survivors as more important because 4x people buying things is better than 1x buying things so keep the 4 happy. Since lots of us play both, and you wont have a game without killers.
I dont feel powerful as killer at all
1 -
I have 1600 hours on the game (most as a killer main)and it doesn't get better unless you play Nurse, which gets pretty boring after a few matches.
Quit while you can
1 -
You must pop the salt pouch open and slather its contents all over the salty lips. This generates 1 Hot Mess which can be offered up to the Large Hardon Collider in exchange for 1 Oyster Goop.
If goopy enough, the Salty One may be amused for a time.

I'm insta-queuing as survivor and having to wait to play Killer.

100% agree that the 3 month new content cycle is too much. They don't have the resources to put into QoL or general game enhancements and bug fixes. I'd be fine with a 6 month new content release and in between every 3 months they work on these updates.

A different game but a similar problem. In overwatch they have a serious problem with few people playing tank or support. So they added flex que. You que up and get thrown into whatever was needed(90% of the time it was tank). For your sacrifice you were given a ticket that "supposedly" sped up your que times for dps when you used it. 2 issues arised with this system.
- People joined flex que and threw the match. They wanted it to end asap so they could get their ticket use it for faster que time as a dps. I have ZERO doubts that if this were introduced into dbd, people would throw killer matches in droves.
- The tickets were so easy to obtain that they virtually did nothing to que times. In overwatch there were plenty of times where i was sitting in que so long that the game refunded me my ticket. So what is the point of having this system?
Im not against bhvr adding more incentive to play killer. Personally i think they do that already with dailies. However i feel it wont address the real issue. Instead of forcing people to play a broken role they should instead try to fix it.

I get tilted sometimes but I try to remember that this game is designed this way and the killer you choose, perks both sides have, maps, items, and players make a huge difference in how each match plays out. My only goal is blood points and getting "brutal killer" with 30k bp earned is fine with me. The point is the fun. Try to have fun and do crazy things and bring unexpected perks.

Funny because killer has become easier for me while survivor feels unplayable with SBMM.
