I legitimately think about 5% of the dbd community is actually toxic
people are so overdramatic about "toxicity" in this game when realistically in my 2k+ hours of experience about 5% are ACTUALLY toxic and like 70% are actually so nice and wholesome and the rest are just chilling playing the game and they dont give af about what goes on outside the match. Maybe i just get exposed to the toxic stuff because realistically whose going out of their way to post about the good experiences but idk

The thing that makes the toxicity in DBD different from other games, is that there are two separate roles with two entirely different methods of play and goals. It creates a tribal mindset in the community where there is no empathy to the other side, and even an actual hatred for the other side. This doesn't appear in a lot of games because it's two teams or players with the same available characters/items/whatever going for the same goals etc. It also causes people to take greater offense and also causes people to stereotype all of X side as being a certain way. IE all killers are campers, all survivors are tbaggers etc.
Because you can just pick one side and ignore the other, I feel that just causes a lot of us vs them mentality than in turn creates a very visceral "sports team" sort of tribalism.

I think that's true of most games, even the 'toxic' ones.
The thing is - it's the toxic experiences that stick in your mind, even if they make up only a fraction of your games.
I call it the 'one really eggy fart in a cinema' syndrome.
This.
Had a really nasty group earlier, so I'll definitely be playing a bit less mercifully for a while.
Same thing happened after I had an Ash and Meg play 'hide and seek' for over an hour because they gave me a 3gen on Ironworks. Just...not even trying to lead me off, do gens etc. Skulking around the map geometry doing just enough to avoid AFK crows, it took half an hour after I just AFKed for them to finally finish - pure sour grapes.

the majority is definitely not toxic.
but sadly, the toxic ones are a rather vocal minority, which makes it seem a lot worse than it actually is.
plus of course its a lot more memorable for people when they encounter a toxic person that heavily insults them than when they have no one say anything / people only say "gg" in end chat.

There is perceived toxicity and there is actual toxicity.
I would say perceived comes from the things that this post describes:
And because of real toxicity (getting told to kill myself day in and day out for months and being DDoS'd too many times) I've made my profile private on Xbox.

Teabagging isnt toxic neither is facecamping the only toxic thing in this game is taking the game hostage (actually against the rules and bannable) and harassing someone after the game (also bannable). So teabag as much as you want its funny i do it to sometimes

You can give up on the hook. Also, I don’t get what is funny about t-bagging behind a safe pallet….
