Murder In The Morning, Chinese SWFs and Confusion: Some Observations

Well, it's been a rough morning.

It's actually usually a rough morning.

I'll play a few games to wake up and get the blood moving, and fortunately I have help.

I'm not quite sure what's going on to be honest.

At most points of the day, MMR seems to work well. I get relatively even matches for the most part and don't seem to have many games, win or lose, where I can't do anything.

The morning, from maybe 5am to 9am though...something hinky is going on.

I'll inevitably get full/partial SWFs with incredibly skilled SWFs from China (or at least using full kanji in their names) who just completely mop the floor with me. I'm sure you know these games - the old 'am I really just bad or are these players just that good...hang on, is that guy hacking?': perfect map awareness and coordination on and off gens, split second Dead Hard usage, absolutely spot-on looping and evasion.

I'm wondering if matchmaking/MMR works differently at different hours, or perhaps different regions. Or maybe there are approximately zero killers playing at these ungodly hours and so I'm getting thrown to the wolves.

It at least functions as well as a stiff cup of coffee!

i don't know what servers you are on but when i que in the AM's as killer that can literally break your mental real quick. The utmost sweatiest SWF's and i've ever seen. For me its around 3am to 6am. Those games are the ones that make me really reflect on the games balance. Because there was never a chance to win. I didn't play perfectly but even if i did, wouldn't have mattered .

Myers And Ghostface are my favorite killers. They were the victims of the AM' ques cause i haven't touched neither of them and i don't plan to either. They are for me the coolest characters, but i'm not a masochist.

I don't mind losing, but these are the 'I'm not even sure if I learned anything there' stomps. I know that I get a lot of use out of my iri addons though :)

I'm wondering if MMR works differently for people in different reasons. It would explain the kanji-tastic SWFs.

Yeah, mornings I sort of have to stick to my Hag and Demogorgon, as these are the killers I know quite well and can at least sometimes get a 1-2k on. Everyone else (Cenobite...oh man), I get drilled within 5 minutes of the game starting.

I mean its a good mentality you have there. Constantly self improving. Trying to find ways what you could do better. But when you never stood a chance? And you become just a punching bag for the survivors. Because they were never in danger of losing the match. Just pray that you like a strong enough killer that can deal with these situations. Because clearly 80% of the killer roster cant. Stay strong, keep learning. and hopefully less stressful mornings.

This is more a matter of the game being incredibly unbalanced in some places.

For instance, on my Hag games, the difference between facing CoH and not facing CoH is night-and-day.

Again yeah - when I lose I try to say 'what could I have done differently?'. It's the games where my answer is 'play another killer' that can be frustrating.

Ik exactly what you're talking about but for me its at night right around 12am to 4am

Players that play so incredibly well together you wonder if they are human, they run every loop perfectly they all split up on gens, they will run in and take protection hits when one of them is gonna go down, they always use bt to bodyblock, they never let anyone get hooked twice if someone's gets hooked once you'll never see them the rest of the game and even if you do down them they'll run in and take enough hits till they wiggle off

Those games feel very impossible to win

"It's the games where my answer is 'play another killer' that can be frustrating." this right here is the soul crusher 3000. Because that's what a lot of the discussion really turns to. "i mean if you don't like losing then just play nurse" What if i don't like nurse? " well that sucks i guess find another game ? " I would like to continue enjoying this game but i would also like to enjoy it on a killer i like. If i can choose id prefer winning but i'm not going to play something i don't really enjoy for the sake of winning.

Instead i come here and cry about balance hoping for changes that will never come. But it's not all bad, sometimes all you need is a good cry 😪

Hag is sort of my 'Nurse'. I know the killer pretty well, she isn't weak on many maps and can often rip apart strong teams - because she's so rarely played that most don't even know what they are seeing when I pop up and bonk them.

The problem with Hag is that she's quite weak against coh and almost every game someone brings it

More power to you. Finding ur Muse in the game. Sadly my choices are way more poor. I get punished for my taste in killers. all good though.

Cheers for less stressful mornings. 🍻

My default Hag build sort of soft-counters CoH - but yes, CoH is going to have to get a nerf. Wraith is nearly unplayable against it.

Can you get Chinese players if you are not from Asia? I mean, there are servers for EU, Asia...etc. Right?

I have no idea. I know that I've played against people from Brazil, South Africa and Canada before.

Maybe someone from your server invited them so they could play on your server as well. I played with someone from Australia. I always had lag when he invited me. If I invited him, it was him who had the lag. That's my experience.

Again, I'm not sure. I know that back in my SC2 days, people would play on multiple regions at different times of day due to queue times in their home regions.

I mean if you're experienced enough with the game you can do that pretty much and even more if you have at least one friend in the match that's experienced too. Then there's the fact that Widescreen and Filters exist where it just destroy any attempt on mind gaming as a killer.

The only way to find out if they're cheating is if the Survivor is subtly increasing his movement speed which you would notice if you play enough killer where the Survivor is just getting distances that doesn't make sense off a lunge or a window.

Also I have heard that these Navy seals are actually playing at around midnight on my time(Asia region) until morning at least that's what I have heard from other Killer buddies.

Yeah I'm genuinely curious what these ridiculously good SWFs with kanji names are doing in my MMR bracket at 6am on a Saturday morning.

Vast majority of SWFs with kanji during those times are hackers/script runners. I stream during that time every day and about 60-65% of games with those particular players ALWAYS have highly suspicious gameplay going on. Just Thanksgiving morning, I had about 2-3 hours straight of nothing but games with cheaters save for one or two games. Had one survivor use a Styptic AND a Refined Serum at the same time. Another SWF was getting knocked and getting right back up, fully healed. Another SWF had all 5 gens in 4 1/2 minutes done despite two people always tied up by me and no Prove Thyself, no BNPs, no toolboxes, absolutely nothing to help with repair speeds whatsoever. And let's not forget Dead Harding despite me following closely from anywhere from 3-10 seconds and tapping for a quick hit and getting screwed by Dead Hard validation EVERY TIME. Not lunging, tapping for the quick hit, something nobody could react to fast enough unless they had Auto Dead Hard cheats on. A lucky guess here and there, sure. It happens. But every single time? Not a chance. Not a single chance.

Playing early in the morning on usually puts you against whoever is available. That time of day/night usually only has people who play this game a ton and probably don't share a timezone remotely close to your own. MMR isn't going to override the sheer lack of killers who don't get up at 4am to take some of the heat off players who aren't getting matched with reasonable competition.
