I don't think reports do anything, I have to deal with stuff like this almost every game. I report the people that do stuff like this and what? I just have to trust that someone will actually take action on that report?

Well its kinda hard to not fight back when you have to deal with stuff like this daily.

Maybe so but I for one always drop a gg wp at the end of my games regardless of the games outcome.

Making a thread generalizing the whole "survivor community" does not help the cause. There are no "survivor communities" or "killer communities" lmao, we are all just randoms sitting in front of a screen pushing buttons. We can play both roles and preferring either one over the other does not define us as anything. I'm sorry that you have to deal with these kinds of things, but the truth is it has nothing to do with them choosing to play as survivors, trolls will be trolls no matter the side they play on.

If people want a better community just report toxic players and don't feed the trolls. Let them talk trash in chat for 4 more minutes while you go to the next match.

talking back to these people and posting about it just feeds them attention. just say gg, report if you want and move on because nobody wins if you're both pretending not to care what the other one says. also, since when has this been exclusive to survivors, both sides of this community are equally awful

There's nothing to see here, people. Keep walking.

Your mistake here is that you replied to them.

    Yup.

Don't engage with them. Don't egg them on. Just imagine that their lives feel so pointless and empty that the only way they can get attention is by being anonymous jerks in a videogame.

    Be polite, and report them.

its toxicity overall, so many times I've had the same experience with killers, basically insulting survivors with no justification (We were not toxic or did anything wrong other than play badly) last match a killer completely stomped us and started saying ''GG EZ, BABY SURVIVORS, YOU ARE TRASH, GIT GUD'' we didn't even bother writing a response, we just went on to play another game...

I don't generalize regardless, this dude does not represent the ''killer community'' at all and the ''survivor community'' should not be put in the same bag as well...

Whats even the point of this thread?

You seem to be just as toxic as them in the chat..

This game in fact allows for such toxicity and nothing can be done about that. Some people play only to humiliate and troll others in game and in chat, it’s how they’re having fun. Defeating four trolls spamming insults is impossible, so it’s better to not participate at all, post game should be kept closed at all times.

I usually just reply "someone had more than their fair share of McDonald's fries today, take care of your heart." Something along those lines.

You can always apologize for pissing in their oatmeal.

You're choosing to experience it daily.

This isn't someone following you home or hounding you at work. It's a chat box that dissapears with a click of one of many buttons. You have all the power in this confrontation but you're choosing to hand it over for seemingly no reason.

All you have done is given those people a pat on the back and encouraged them to do it again.

I think it's a shame though that we now blame people for having chat enabled for receiving toxicity. You do get rare moments of people being nice in the chat window (although its mostly just gg, or console silence)

Yeah I feel you on that one, especially during a time like lockdown, and for some people that might be the most significant interaction they have on a given day.

you couldn’t play the game if survivor players didn’t exist so stop grouping them all together

Well said. Game would be far less toxic if everyone followed this advice. The reason trolls exist is because people feed them

    Looks at name.

    *Blinks rapidly*.

Yeah, I run into complete butts playing survivor on an almost daily basis. It definitely wears on you.

While killers do sometimes camp or slug, I can't think of the last time one was a gloating schmuck in postgame. Survivors on the other hand, especially playing SWF - people wonder why nobody wants to play killer these days.

Idk if it's my history with online games but each time a discussion like that happens I can't stop to think that the other side is either:

    a) A kid

    b) a troll that is laughing at the situation while is typing more shenanigans

    c) someone that really is talking serious and needs psycho help, which at the end isn't funny...

    Yup.

    It's a cycle.

For example, I started out today playing really nice. I brought streamers, let people farm a bit and did everything I could to give people a fun, fair match.

Then I ran into a bunch of butt goblins that flicky flicky teabag teabagged me, while playing in an SWF that had evidently smurfed their MMR down to silly levels (one had 7200 hours played).

    Postgame, the usual yakking.

Immediately after this I had another toxic SWF, including a Dwight with the most annoyingly strobe-y flashlight macro I've ever seen.

    Postgame was like

Him: GGEZ uninstall scrub games full.

Me: You'd think people would be friendlier during a Bloodhunt, especially when I bring streamers...

Him: Nah, my goal is to make as many killer players as possible uninstall.

Me: Sigh. Maybe stick to teabagging then. You're going to literally give someone a seizure one day.

    Him: Good. I hope so.

I went for a lie down with a headache.

I'm sure the survivors I played against this evening had a much less enjoyable time than those I played against this morning.

Feeding trolls is one of the things I try not to do but I also feel like many people fuel this cycle of hate unintentionally or with good intentions like when they try to make other people feel better. I've seen many threads on this site from mains of either role seeking validation for their "toxicity" or for being a jerk during a match "becauseeeee the (other role) did so and so".

To name a few examples: "I facecamped because he was clicky clickying non-stop or I teabagged because he hit me right off the hook was I wrong?" You may have been right, you may have been wrong, who knows? We weren't there.

What I mean is, sometimes you want to make others feel better about the bad experience they had but all they take from the responses is "I was right, so I can keep on doing it because it's okay".

  • cantelope
    cantelope Applicant Posts: 343

    Its not blame.

The people who act like that do it for attention. So why give them it. Acting in such a way that not only fails to deter them but actively encourages the behaviour makes absolutely no sense.

You have to grasp you can't control people actions. No matter how hard you scream insults at them.

You wanna keep the chat open? You wanna type gg wp? Do it. Just don't give power to jerks by indulging their behaviour. Click the button and move on. Don't do what OP did.

Earlier I thought you meant just turn chat off entirely, that's what I was responding to. Not commenting on whether or not to participate in a toxic chat or move on

Yeah. Last night I went super-easy on a team. I only got a few hooks, they literally got hit within a few seconds of every chase, used no loops at all, dropped pallets as if that were the goal of the game. I honestly thought it was their very first match. Not exaggerating, it didn't even feel fun, it was like hitting seals with a club. I just eased off and let them get out.

GOLD ranked player, I'm silver at best.

    Gold :GGEZ

I'm like "Sorry, thought you were new players."

    Gold: NO

Me: So do you ever run a killer for multiple seconds? Ever tried looping?

    Gold: YES

    Gold: U MAD?

    Gold: Uninstall!

Then I made fun of him, because what a ######### joke.

I used to want everyone to have fun, but almost every time I'm nice to a team I end up regretting it. I get a lot more 4Ks now.

People like these are fueled if you answer them back. Usually when i get survivors like this i type to them I love you too <3 have a nice day or something overly positive to piss them off even more. Toxic trolls like this just enjoy the fact that you let them talk and you answer so best is to be nice and move along. Trust me it pisses them off even more since they couldnt foam more from the mouth.

Still it sucks and its funny ive noticed it's always the same stuff they say... its like they have learned these same toxic lines they keep repeating.

You'll find in time you cannot reason or make survivors understand your pov of the situation. Twice in the last week I was playing Nurse and Trapper and my inbox got abused. I got a basement hook with Nurse and knew at that point in the game, the basement was money, I was going to defend it. Know why? I hear 2 other survivors injured surrounding main building waiting for save, not even waiting for me to leave. No way was I going to let three of them get an easy reset and lollygag freely. This survivor kept messaging me two days, hurling abusive language all because of that basement hook. I eventually blocked them after explaining my play and saying ggs, they continued, I blocked them.

Another survivor gave me salt for being smart with Trapper and defending my 3 gen. They messaged me ggs but they were also trash talking me as if I was a fellow survivor saying they "juiced" me at the beginning of the game and that I was a sad killer when in reality I wasn't going to chase him away from my 3 gen until he stepped in my trap in my zone. I just replied with a smile face and said ggs.

The moral of this story is just say ggs and move on, there's no sense of attempting to have a conversation with them when all you're gonna be met with is abuse which I don't understand. When I'm survivor and I run into a Slinger with an all hex build that's quite frankly dirty, I'll message them ggs and their build was dirty good. I just don't get survivor mains.

I love how they say you have a "low mmr" when the mmr system is supposedly supposed to match you up with someone similar mmr as well. Next game they get rekt and cry LMAOOO it never ends.

in most of my killer games the survivors don't write anything and when they do it's usually just some short stuff like "gg" "wp" "ez", depending on how i played. When they write something like "ez" i know i made it a hard game for them, if it's a close match people usually tend to let go of the tension this way.

Generally i give everyone the advice to ignore chat. Nothing of value happens there usually besides me getting angry. Best thing after a bad game especially when you got bullied is to just leave and don't give them the satisfaction of showing your anger.

I don't write "gg wp" after games like this (some say it's a good way to stop the bullying) because i don't want them to think this is acceptable behaviour towards killers.
