What is up with The Wraith spam?
Im a new player. So far Im really enjoying the game, winning 1/3 is a good enough ratio for me to start. The only negative expierence I have is that Im getting spammed with Wraith killers.
In theory they should be balanced because they cant attack while cloaked, have to ring the bell in order to attack.
Thats what I thought atleast until I read they gain burst movement speed after they lose stealth. Whats the point of the bell then if youre gonna compensate it? Im sure survivors are op in premades, but boy does Wraith seem OP in solo que. Why else would he be spammed like crazy?
Anyways, I hope to atleast get some tips on how to play vs him.
I also read there are like 20 ranks, why am I rank 3 after only couple of games?

A tip is to always plan which direction you're going to run when you're working on a gen. Wraith's stealth and speed burst is useless if there's a pallet or window that's close enough to reach during the uncloak+catch up time, and unless the generator has nothing next to it it's very rare that there isn't at least something to use nearby.
You never want to drop pallets if Wraith is cloaked UNLESS he's under one and you are 100% sure you will stun him. Instead, you want to hump windows because his speed doesn't help him there.
Lastly, something many Wraiths will try to do while uncloaking is face one way and pretend they're going to go that way, and then at the last second of the uncloak face the other way and zoom around the loop to catch a survivor who's ran backwards. If you see a Wraith doing this, keep this in mind. They nerfed his speed burst so this is much easier to avoid than it sounds.
At the end of the day he is a basic killer with no special chase abilities, especially not with his speed burst being nerfed, so he's not that strong. He is very easy to play and is strong against new players though, which is why you see him a lot at lower skill brackets - but when most survivors in a team are even just competent, even the best Wraiths can't really do much. He's a little like Freddy, Doctor, Legion and Pig in that way.

The game is free on the Epic game store, the Wraith is the best beginner-killer as he is super easy to understand. So most people start with him, and that's why you will see him a lot

Im salty as F****. Just came here right after another Wraith game followed by this thread. Hes soooooo freaking fast after that bell, its insane.
Im winning against all other killers but this guy, forget about 1/3 ratio, its going downhill fast now.
Ill try to look for a pallet or a window next to a gen. His cloak puts also pressure when he has people hanging, its always a question whether he really left or waiting to bait people saving those poor souls. I dont know man, this guy feels completely busted compared to my other expierence. Ill just try to rank up and hope higher elo doesnt play him.
Can you explain the rankings for me? I read there are grades now so the matchmaking doesnt matter really.

Ranks mean nothing anymore. With the implementing of skill based matchmaking rating (short SBMMR) came grades not ranks anymore. Ranks where used for matchmaking which now was substited with a hidden elo value.
The grades themselves are only an indicator of dedication and playtime between the 13th of every month when they get reset and you get a BP gift depending on your grade at the time of the reset.
In my opinion this is way too confusing for new and some of the older players but hey it's behaviour and we have to be happy once they manage even a little bit not to disappoint.

Ironically enough, the reason is because without the speed boost, the bell would be pointless.

Wraith only shows up frequently among new players because he’s one of the few killers that comes with the game. Among players that have unlocked most or all of the dlc he shows up much, much less (there’s 26 killers so the average specific killer appearance is 1 out of 26 games. Wraith is probably around there.)

Does anyone know how to use a item? I picked up a map, I read it for like 20seconds and after that I didnt know how to use it. I picked up a flashlight, pressed right/left mouse click nothing happens. Would be nice if they put all this in a tutorial. my default e button does nothing as well.

Items ares used with right click (m2) by default. You should check if the item isn't depleted, items have charges that are consumed when used.
You probably had a green map which... I don't even know what it does except showing you the aura of generators you already touched within the map's range.
Don't hesitate to look at items descriptions in your lobby. If you have a friend, you can practice in private games, you will have every perks, items and addons available there.

Thanks for all the replies. I got that flahslight right out of the box. So items out of a box ingame doesnt garantee its fully charged?

It's possible the flashlight you got from the box had been put there by another player - they'd used their item, opened a chest, and then swapped their used flashlight with the fresh item from the chest.
Anyway, the best counter to Wraith is pallets and especially windows. You can drop the pallet on him while he's uncloaking for an extra fat stun or keep jumping through a window that he can't quickly walk around, and he has to uncloak fully to be able to even start the chase because you can vault before he uncloaks. Always keep your eyes open for his shimmer and pay attention for his growling, and when you first sit down at a gen, think about nearby escape routes you can run to if he shows up.
Wraith is very good at low ranks because players aren't good at looping and rely on running away from the killer in straight lines, which he counters. But at higher ranks, he falls off very quickly.

Wraith is the noob friendly killer so it makes sense as a new player you see him a lot.

Wraith has 2 main abilities.
Bing is he charging his lazer
Bong is when he is charging his battle axe of power.
be nowhere near him when you hear Bing or Bong.
If you're after help i get on the dbd discord and find some groups to run with to teach you stuff. Dbd is not noob friendly at all.
Between MMR and queue times you could be thrown in with Killers with thousands of hours of play time, Id ask on the discord for some help to get advice well playing.

I havent seen Wraith now in 10 games. The game is much more enjoyable now.
I made 5 escapes in a row so that ratio is up again. I may look for addtional guide once I hit a wall again. I have to accept that Wraith is my kryptonite, tho neither of all the other survivers managed to escape him in my games.

Wraith is easy to use and have good results in mid to low mmr, that's the reason why he is overused in that mmr.

Wraith is so high due being so used in low MMR, in Mid to high MMR he struggles a lot agains decent survivors, specially if they carry flashlights.

Interesting, so Wraith is up there with the big boys. Your argument ofcourse lies within low mmr. Is there a graph in which they show exact stats mmr-wise? It would also help to distinguish those stats in comparison when it comes to solo que vs premades. Any killer going up against premades would have his stats skewed.

I had my fun, 8 escapes in a row till the almighty Wraith had to step in. The problem Im having is that none of my teammates are able to escape either. I tried using loop but unlike others he has a nasty hitbox as well.

Wraith had 57.13% in Sept. Im curious about this very stat at the moment now that epic store is promoting dbd 4free. This spam will only get worse when people start to visit forums and other tips and tricks platforms.
Whether Wraith is balanced in high elo I dont know, apparantly we dont have stats to confirm that. But we can all agree that hes a massive noob stomper and you get him 4free as well when you start the game. This combination is a big no-go.
You have to consider there is a reason why dbd went free, usualy this is done to increase game population. Wraith is not helping this case at all. You rub one guys *D* while the other 4 feel like their expierence got completely ruined. Thats a bad ratio.
Wraith is not healthy for the game is what I can confirm for the reasons I mentioned above.

No there aren't a graph related to MMR. When I play wraith and I'm against bad survivors I usually steamroll and against good survivors I lose frequently. Wraith is one of the newbie-stomper killers along with Pig and Freddy.

Wraith can counter survivors who just hold shift+w as an escape option. Also he is quit easy to play and brings map presence, a fun mechanic and good add-ons to the table. With Surge (Jolt) and Sloppy Butcher Wraith also brings some pretty good perks that are free not to mention he can use Hex: No one escapes Death quit well.
As such Wraith is an obvious choice as a very present Killer in low and mid-ranks. Probably dropping off a bit a high ranks and against SWFs.
Please do not use this "Killrate" as an argument. That statistic is greatly flawed and even the devs pointed out that you just make a fool out of yourself by using it. Just look at where Nurse, Plague and Shape are...
Wraiths 57,13% mean that most people just do not hug windows or do generators. Same for Cenbites 59,86% by the way which is a tribute to people just not solving his box and expecting to loop him just like any other Killer. You also see this with Pig where people are just ignoring her Traps and then complain about getting their head popped or Oni where people stay injured and feed him his power...
The problem is that this game is very Killer sided at lower ranks and very survivor side then high you go. The "balance" pretty much leaves the room once there are more perks, more combinations and more coordination.

Because he is a noob stomper. No offense :) New people who are likely at low MMR are usually not playing in SWF. Therefor stealthkillers are extremely effective at those ranks.
Heck I can show you one of my recent vids if you like on how to completely stomp a wraith at high MMR. They have been nerfed so hard, that anyone that understands how he works, will completely stomp him.
It is just that you are still immersed and panick in chase probably that he gets you. Time will sadly take away the immersiveness, time will make you a better looper.

Not sure how new you are, so I'll explain what I am doing most of the time. My tactic against this specific wraith is to just block pallets, so he cannot block them for me. If he then uncloacks... I will likely stun him, or get away safe. Do not that this specific killer was defo not the best, as he could have handled that better with mindgames at many pallets. I just took advantage of it. And I am sure at low MMR you can do this to most wraiths.

Wraith is one of the weakest killer in the game.
the reason of why you see it at every match is : he is free and easy for new killer player to win against new survivor.

Then why is he asking for nerfs on a killer he barely understands? It's not just him either, mind you. How we got to this point, Wraith being nerfed into uselessness when he was mediocre before, that was done by survivor echo chambers full of players, old and new, who have no place saying what killer stuff needs nerfing because they're ridiculously biased. Wraith can't hit you without uncloaking, and that's when he's at his weakest! His speed doesn't even come close to compensating for that! How can people not understand that?

Have you played any other online game ever? People will play things or play against things for the first time, go "yo this is so broken why haven't the devs nerfed this yet??" then by the end of the game campaign/after about 200 hours, they realise that no it isn't actually op.

I think Wraith is not healthy vs mass incoming new players. To solve this problem I suggest to make him not free to play. Meanwhile to understand the killer better I decided to play him. Im having a blast btw even without addons. Today I destroyed a full premade team and got assulated in after chat.
Anything that has a massive stomp rate against new players shouldnt be promoted as f2p together with epic games advertisement.
Having said all that, Killer mains have earned my respect. I realised how taxing it is to play killers.
