Hi, for me, watching streams and yt videos to learn from experienced players is the best advice I can think of.

Play both, killer will teach you gen layouts and totem spawns.

Playing survivor will teach you all the survivor spawns and what you are capable of doing as survivor.

No matter what happens or what anyone says as long as you're having fun it doesn't matter, some people try to bring you down over the dumbest things and at the end of the day they didn't buy your game and you can play however you want, making sure you're happy and having fun is the most important thing.

That's also very good advice, I think we often get so involved in things and we forget about the fun aspect.

Exposed means instadown, not aura reading...

Or, more legitimately, that playing to your role instead of playing "to win" is more engaging and less likely to be frustrating, especially as a killer. Not everyone dies in a slasher movie, and sometimes the fun is in being a menacing presence rather than an efficient killer.

For survivors: Don't be scared. Being caught isn't the worst thing ever, you have several 'lives', and the survivors can't win if they hide in the corners of the map or run away the second they hear a terror radius. Know that if the killer is chasing someone else, you're usually safe to do whatever needs to be done unless the chased player is close enough that the killer can directly see you.

For killers: Remember that you need to interrupt generators. Refusing to stop chasing a survivor will cost you the game - if you can't catch them and it's taking too long, accept that you got some pallets out of the chase and go back to stop those gens. You'll find someone else, and hopefully they'll be an easier target.

For both: Remember that it's a game, and if you're getting angry at the other players or you're just not having fun, it's a good idea to take a step back and put the game down. It's okay to be upset when you encounter unpleasant people, but don't let them affect your self-image.

Play both side. I've learnt a lot by playing Killer (and started to enjoy the role as well).

Since quite a few already said "play both sides" out the whazoo, I'll recommend:

Understanding the scoring system to farm blood points effectively, especially as a survivor.

    ---

Seriously, the bloodpoint grind is stupidly bad right now, so understanding how to get a lot of bloodpoints (especially as survivor) is very beneficial.

Without going into detail, to make a lot of bloodpoints (BP) as survivor, focus on doing things as a team rather than doing things yourself. Do generators with someone else, run chases with people, be altruistic, etc. Most of your Bloodpoint gains come from co-operative actions with someone else instead of doing things on your own.

    ---

Note, however, that doing things on your own is a great way to learn to play and actually more efficient for actually winning the game. Your points will suffer with this independent play though, because for some reason efficient survivor play is punished with poor point gains.

When playing killer, keep your chat window closed. When survivor, you can keep it open.

Don’t stress yourself only for the best outcome (4Kills or escape)

instead, try to have fun during your matches, improve on using your killers power, perks, challenge, daily you are trying to get done. And don’t stress yourself with those as well.

you will have good and bad days, sometimes it’s just not the time for this specific challenge. Try again another day.

As a Killer, Camp,Tunnel slug. You don't need friends you need victims.

As a survivor? Get carried by your friends and profit.

My best advice for DBD is patience. There's a lot to learn but luckily there are many guides and tutorials for this. There's a huge grind to leveling up that's going to take a long time and even money in many cases to get the perks that you want.

Do whatever you want and don't care about what people think about how you play.

Want to run the sweatiest build in existence match after match? Go for it.

Want to gen rush every game? Go for it.

Want to tunnel and camp as much as possible? Go for it.

Want to run a chill build and always go easy on the other side? If you want, but don't expect others to do the same for you.

    People will complain, who cares.

SINGLE best advice? Thats easy: Uninstall.

If possible u should refund and never look back, this game is Toxicity itself, it only ruin people's lives, its depressing, stressful and painful, staying away from it is literally the best thing u can do in regards to this game, for your sanity and your own health!

If your easily tilted or upset by the actions no matter how big or small or negative comments for a whole host of trivial reasons the game isn't for you!

Otherwise simply enjoy give both sides an equal chance, the grind is painful yet oddly addictive & good luck in the fog

1.Don't play until the game is fixed.

    2. don't prestige it isn't even worth it in any way, has never been since legacy.

    3. I suggest playing survivor because it is the easier role but level up david for wglf then bill for bt, for killer buy bubba for bbq and he is easy to play as killer, with shards you can buy plague for corrupt and infectious fright.

Be VERY careful with which teachable perks you choose to unlock for all Survivors/Killers. The more perks you unlock, the harder it becomes to find the ones you want in a character's blood web, and there is no way to undo the damage.

    Refund

Best advice is turn back now before it's too late. If you insist on sticking around though I'd say 1. Play both sides 2. Don't bother prestiging, especially on survivor side 3. Read perk/item/addon description after every match. 4. Use whatever perks help you.

    1. Play both sides - this makes you play better. When you play killer you understand the power better and will know how to counter them better as survivor. I remember on a FB post of "things you may not know" a ton of survivors had no idea that when Legion is in Frenzy that their killer instinct will reveal survivors in lockers. Playing survivor you will get better idea of what survivors see - how your red stain looks, how stealthy you are actually being (example: wraith while cloaked makes loud noises), what survivors see in chase while mind gaming, etc. Playing both sides you also get a better feel for the different perks (how they work and which ones work well together) as well as usefulness of different items for survivor and addons for both survivor and killer.

    2. Don't bother prestiging - right now the only thing you get from prestiging a character is bloody version of their default cosmetic and a unnoticeable increase of rarities on bloodweb. If you want to get achievement for prestiging I recommend you do it to your favorite character and then just keep everyone else as 50 while you max out perks. The grind in this game is pretty rough and prestiging doesn't help. Survivors are really just skins so I recommend choosing your favorite to max out with perks and only using BP needed to unlock perks on the others. Killers all have different powers so you'll probably want to max out perks on a few different ones.

    3. Read perk, item, and add-on descriptions after every match - this will help you learn from the match. After a match when I was learning the game I'd think "how did the killer keep finding me?" and looking at perks or addons would have the answer - like Mikey has an addon to see auras but keeps him in Tier 1.

    4. Use whatever perks help you. There are the meta perks but if you're just starting out those perks aren't necessarily going to help you. Running Small Game as survivor will help you learn totem spawns - once you learn the spawn locations it will help you find hex totems as survivor and blessed totems as killer. If you are not great at finding gens run Deja Vu that shows you aura of 3 closest gens at start of match and then again each time a gen is finished. If you're having trouble carrying survivors to a hook before they wiggle free run Iron Grasp. If you have trouble finding survivors run Whispers which makes a sound when survivors are near or Bitter Murmur which shows auras when gen is finished. There are perks to help you out when you're still learning the game, use them. The meta perks are useless if you have a hard time with the main objective.

As a killer, always use headphones and learn to track survivors by sound. Listen for generators, especially sounds of them repairing them, and their breathing and footsteps. If you are in a chase and they duck behind a wall you can still usually hear where they are. Listen for where Boon totems are so you can snuff them when you have a moment. Listen for survivors running behind you for a possible flashlight or pallet save when you down someone, and for them running into nearby lockers, etc.

Basically you should be using your ears as much as your eyes as a killer. And headphones make a massive difference in being able to tell the direction and distance of the sound. All killers benefit from using headphones, not just Spirit.

  • bm33
    bm33 Member Posts: 8,204

Headphones also help as survivor - can hear stealth killers breathing/footsteps, listen for hex totems, and hear direction of killer heartbeat.
