About high MMR

Isn't getting or having a high MMR and being red rank the same thing? Im assuming high MMR means you get more seasoned or really good survivors to go against. The only way you get to red ranks is through pip'ing ie getting 3k and 4k with Ruthless or Merciless Killer so am i wrong?

So the way to get to red rank is pip'ing. But high MMR does not equal your rank. I'll give an example of this.

Out of all of my killers, I probably have the most time on Plague. Before they reimplemented the new SBMM I would get 3-4k every game. Now with the new SBMM (skill based match making) I'm lucky if I even get one kill. Keep in mind I was ash rank going against people that most likely play the game at the tournaments. So, if I swap to a different killer, one I have almost no play time on, blood them and so on get them to what I want it as, I could go into an iri game and curb stomp survivors. The ranking system doesn't mean anything to the MMR. For killers they look at your kills per game for each individual killer. Survivor is just for all survivors.

Ok so at red rank 2 (second to highest rank you can get) to get there I mostly 3 and 4k'ed with Pig, Trapper and Myers which are my killers to pip so does that mean my MMR is high with these killers only? It sucks because theres no real way to tell that your at a high MMR then. I play like 12 killers but use 4 or 5 to pip and get kills with, is that it?

I dont agree with that at all. Yes it is an indicator of the player putting "time" in but your forgetting that to get there in the first place you need to do very well ie 3k and 4k and get ruthless and merciless killer so to say that people at this point can still be bad or have no or little skill doesnt make sense. If you do bad your gonna depip period and not make red rank. Yeah its true you can just draw against survivor and get 2k every game with Brutal Killer but thats something different. im assuming your MMR would remain the same depending on how you got high MMR in the first place or not

I dont get what your saying..Depiping lowers your grade and you definetly go from Red 4 to the previous grade by losing ie depiping ie when your constantly losing. This MMR thing is confusing!

Nice of you to make things more clear good to see you guys have an eye on the forum.

One question I would have to the mmr that you don't answerd is when is stop playing dbd for a month or so is my mmr going down a bit so I don't have hard games when I need to get back into the game after a longer pause?

There is most certainly a correlation between people that reach high grade level and people with high MMR. And the sooner they hit the higher grades after grade reset, the higher their MMR is likely to be.

That cleared up a lot for me. And:

    Please leave the grade icons!

Yeah just put a disclaimer on every grade up and when they get reset that should do the work

I think showing both the grade and a separate MMR emblem (not necessarily an exact rating) would be helpful. As I'm sure you've seen, literally everyone is somehow at "high MMR" and it hurts the discourse and community management around the game as a whole IMO.

People assume they've hit the skill cap, can't take criticism, and opinions are automatically thrown away because someone else's hidden number can't possibly be as high as theirs. If community feedback is important and affects the direction of the game, then I feel it's important that people have the ability to give informed feedback. Having hidden MMR makes it hard to give informed feedback when everyone thinks they are at the highest possible MMR.

Yes please hide grades completely at the end game screen or at least let players choose to hide/show their grade in settings if possible.

But I am for completely hiding them, the era of ranks is gone and makes no sense for me to keep them shown. Even less so to new players

Still wondering who thought this system with visible ranks that don´t matter and a hidden numbers that matters would be a good idea.

People want to see a rank or grade or emblem to feel good and feel progress.

So simply show the MMR - that what counts for you rmatches. There is really no honest reason not to. I think most would be more happy with that, than the current system.

I really like that you are responding to posts especially since SBMM is a new system and will take time to calibrate properly.

With that said, I would also like to add that what would, in my opinion, help a lot would be a combination of lowering potential MMR ranges for matches so one side doesn't get stomped, buffing weaker killers and improving moderation of toxic actions.

I am currently Iri 1 on killer and Iri 3 on solo queue survivor (I'm just mentioning this as it shows I do spend a lot of time on both sides) and survivor is far less stressful and far less demanding than killer. While some killers do quite well it's not an enjoyable experience to be taunted and BM'ed while playing an unfamiliar and/or weaker killer. I suspect that if survivor toxicity was dialed back a lot of killer complaints would disappear.

That's not to say that many killers don't need either direct or indirect buffs, they do, or that the majority of survivors do this (the majority are just fun players) but the sizeable minority that does do this can sour an otherwise completely enjoyable gaming experience.

I think it's obvious that the devs do really care about their game and it, of course, takes time to implement things but please think about these recommendations. While I'm sure the devs don't share this attitude the answer to the frustrations killers currently face is not playing Civ VI. The matches I've been getting recently have been getting better for enjoyability so some tinkering with SBMM may have already occurred but there is still some ways to go.

As a side note, I think the devs did awesome with the new chapter. Keep up the good work with things like that; you did a great job.

    Hello @DesignDad

absolutly, I think the emblems with "rank numbers" or especially the colors of the emblems are the cause for many confusions. It really looks like a ranking system, although it should show a monthly progress.

I'm no an ux specialist, but maybe something like a progress bar (because you want to show progress) with some markers where you can see "if i reach this marker, I'll get 100k bp at the 13th.". Maybe with an tooltip when you hover over the markers. And without any grade names. The bar could change the color when reaching the end to encourage players to continue the challenge.

I'd remove them, it's of no interest to anyone how much someone else has played that month and is often misunderstood.

Thanks! Since you’re asking for people’s opinions I definitely would vote for hiding opponent’s grades, there’s really no reason to know the grades of opponents since they’re not tied to matchmaking at all and I agree about there being a lot of confusion.. Either show nothing for the opponents or show a rough percentile bracket indicator of some sort related to the actual MMR.

With Grades being meaningless towards matchmaking they definitely have no place in the match summary anymore, especially when they just continue to cause confusion. It would be better to replace the grade with character portraits.

People always want to compare. If there is nothing at the result screen it will be a bit disappointing.

If you don´t want to show the MMR points then maybe show the actual hours played this month.

I’d be all for hiding the grades just because people still believe they are related to MMR. It’s gonna be hard to convince people that the grades are there for the time you’ve played.

Please no. I don't want that because you'll get people that start insulting you for having too much/too little playtime. People hide their profiles for a reason.

I do find that ranks are still a somewhat reliable indicator of placement - iri survivors are sort of like the old red ranks, where they're not necessarily great, but they play a lot and have basic game competence (both of which are needed to pip up.) Finding an ash survivor outside of the middle of the month either means they're new, they don't play much, or they just came back from a hiatus and they're rusty. They do have some accuracy, and when I hear brand new players complaining that they're getting matched with full iridescents, they still have a point - they're being matched with players who have much more experience than they do. So rank plus perks (color and selection - are they all general/from that character, are they all from default characters, are they from a lot of characters, are they meta) generally gives me a good idea of who I'm facing.

Showing the MMR points would be the ideal situation, though.

See now it makes sense to just completely hide grades. In the old rank system when I escaped and killed my opponents and saw they were red ranks, I felt really good about that.

But now with grades it’s not the same anymore. You can probably see what I mean.

Expand functionality of that Icon to show "Emblems". Allow a Basic array of Grade-based emblems to be unlocked and used. Have Emblems be unlockable from Achievements (EG: the Adept Icons becoming unlockable Emblems that can be used). Make Scorecard Row designs that are unlockable too. ######### CoD MW calling card that shite.

I got P4 Pyramid Head but prefer the looks of something else? Let me make my Power Icon bloody, that shows up in the in-Trial UI and Post-Trial results Power Icon.

Ok i get it now! Thanks for the clarification. Grade should stay so people like me can use points of reference. I dont know how i feel about MMR or SBMM, im very competitive so i dont think the MMR would favor me anyway. Could be wrong but again thanks for the response! )

You can change the names, the icons, stick a pop-up at the start of every single game explaining the system and people will still demand to know why they're going against iri players as a bronze. Removing them might be the way to go.

    Yes this!

    @MandyTalk @DesignDad

I think replacing the grade icons with their character portraits would benefit people so much more. I often find myself at the end of a match putting together usernames with character models because I often forget who was who. Especially if there was more then one of the same character.

Basically you'll know what MMR you're at based on how well the survivors are doing. If you're getting bullied then you've basically hit around max MMR

The best indicator of skill and or ability is not through MMR but through rank! Rank therfore means more to ME than MMR

mmr is based on kills and escapes. So that does not measure skill. You can creep around the map and wait for your team to do all the work and escape and your mmr increases. You can loop the killer and do a few gens but finally get caught and one hooked so you die and your mmr goes down. Obviously the second person is more skilled. The mmr system is not a good way to measure skill. Same with a killer. One could camp each first hook and get 4K so the game thinks they’re more skilled than the killer who got multiple hooks but say maybe only one kill. Also the “grade” is like the old emblem system except you can’t depip… so basically your guaranteed to get to the high grades or reds if you just play enough. So we used to have the old emblem system that determined our matchmaking but now they turned that into grades which now are just an end season bloodpoint reward system and our mmr is hidden.

all these players thinking they’re red ranks. I would like to see the old system come back and see these same players try to get back to the red ranks 🙄 its grades. It’s a participation award.

the mmr just 💩s on you the next match if you win.. next match easy.

with the old system I felt my teammates were really close to my skill. And I felt the killers were really good. Now I feel like they’re mixing the new with the experienced players… I haven’t seen people blowing up gens and urban evading since I first started and now I see them every session
