Dead by Daylight being free to claim on Epic Games Store
I don't believe that the game is actually ''free.'' Sure, it is technically free for the end consumer to claim. I highly believe that for each copy of Dead by Daylight claimed by an Epic Games Store user, Epic is paying BHVR per game key.
At least this is how it happened with the Grand Theft Auto V when Epic Games was giving out free copies of it back in 2020. They still paid Rockstar Games for each ''free'' copy.
Even though BHVR won't disclose/admit this, it is very likely that they are getting paid. The ''free giveaway'' decision was probably Epic's idea. Then they consulted to BHVR and they were probably like ''meh, whatever go ahead.''
I'd like to hear people's opinion on this though.
Also because of this, the inevitable cheater situation has risen as there is no downside of getting banned from a game that you claimed for free.
We paid users are glad that the base game is not a free game at all. And I hope that in the future, BHVR never decides to make the PC version a permanently free game.

It only was free for a week. It's 20 euros on Epic now, just like Steam.
That said, I don't really see the harm if BHVR got paid by Epic instead of us. It ultimately doesn't really change anything for BHVR, but they got a new store to get sales from.

Of course they got payed for it. Why would BHVR gave it out for free only for Epic?
Epic still has to pay them for each copy

Tbh, I don't care if it's free or not free for Epic games. I still got my free copy on Epic nonetheless :D

I dont see why this is a problem if I'm being honest like yeah it's free for the consumer and BHVR and Epic have entered into a contract about what Epic can and can't do with copies of dbd like why is this a problem??

They probably got some money from Epic. But even if not - this could simply be a marketing campaign.
The base game has not much content.
DLC and cosmetics is the big deal.

Honestly it should be a free game with all the bullshit you have to pay for in this game I mean I've probably sunk about 400 dollars into it with all the dlcs and some cosmetics I've bought and that's just too steep for a game with as many bugs as this one has don't get me wrong I love this game but if we're gonna keep having these garbage 10-15 dollar outfits why shouldn't the game be free? Id be afraid to add up the dollar amount if someone actually purchased every single cosmetic+ dlcs in the game

BHVR : Introduce NFTs to DBD
Steam : We don't like NFTs

This has some truth to it.

I don't see the problem with that.

before long we'll be playing games that use us to mine crypto and we'll be hearing about people having a hard time understanding why so many resources are being used on a ######### game.

Where are the NFTs in DBD?

Its a net positive for epic game store when they do free games. They may pay out a few million every year for it, but it garners them way more in users and overall marketshare compared to steam. You could say its.....pay 2 win. And honestly, its worked out for them pretty successfully. That being said DBD likely got paid a significant amount to run the promotion.
And I haven't noticed this up until now, but since Epic has been pushing these free games and getting me to use that store I haven't bought a single game on steam in damn near over a year....#########...

There are none, that account is just an ignorant troll.

I totally agree. Why should someone get paid for a product they have created? It's not like they have employees to pay or resources that cost money.
