Dbd finally has some competition?
So I got "Hacked" on DBD a couple weeks ago (since I can't use the actual term without my post being deleted for some reason) and decided to pick up a couple of different games due to my frustration, side note: I can play DBD again so now I've been switching between a few different games.
The games I've been playing are Propnight and VHS and I'll admit that I've had tons of fun they are both great games, I was wondering for those of you who tried them both, How do you think they stack up to DBD? Dbd is the OG and nobody can take that away, but I feel like there are a few aspects those other games nailed that Dbd is missing out on, in my opinion when you go back to dbd after playing those for a couple weeks straight it gets boring after a few matches and makes you wanna switch it up more often, this community is like a soured elderly person that gets pissed about anything and everything at this point and I really think the opposite about the other games it seems like nobody takes those games as serious as they do dbd, the fun has been sucked away by both sides of the community always being upset and finding a ridiculous reason to ######### on someone. Do you think these other games will ever be a real competitor for DBD? What would you bring from the other games to improve DBD?

Really? Why are they being sued? I just looked it up and there isn't a single bit of info about a lawsuit, post a link please

God I wish I found VHS as fun as everyone else does because that game made me genuinely want to never touch it again.
7 -
Probably how they did the banshee. That thing is almost skin cell for skin cell Valak from the conjuring
2 -
You should try propnight it's a load of fun, I haven't laughed so hard in a long time, it's literally a less serious dbd where both sides I feel are pretty strong, I've never seen people be so happy about dying or not getting a 4k
6 -
Well, I have yet to find anything about a lawsuit or issue, could you post a link?
1 -
Can you link an article regarding this?
I'd like to take a look!
1 -
I can see that in a couple of characters but they aren't exact and the powers don't match what the actual character is I'd say they'll have a hard time actually winning that
1 -
I never said I knew. I'm making educated guessing.
0 -
It's just a guess. I don't even think there are issues. If there were that is my guess. Hence the "probably"

I'm surprised dbd hasn't said anything over the rabbit with a chainsaw, the chainsaw mechanic is a rip off of the hillbilly, dude looks like a FNAF character

I've been watching someone playing Propnight a couple of weeks ago. They were spamming a fart sound. Like. What the heck, you can play a fart sound? Not truly what I'm looking for, I stopped watching it and never had the desire to play it since.
VHS sounds fun but I don't like the graphics. I have nothing against cartoonish style but the animations didn't get me in.
1 -
You can use numerous things like calling out you're in a chase and what not, but the far sound is there to be funny if you're in a prop and the killer is nearby they can hear it if you do that, or when you get chaired people will call for help or spam the fart if no one is going for them, also there's open chat so everyone can hear everyone talking unless you're in a discord chat or muted, the killer can hear you talk so you can't just call out where you're at and what you're doing.
3 -
Well, I'm not 14 anymore, and even when I was 14, fart sounds weren't my definition of fun. And a chat is pretty disturbing to me. I was playing a game with a chat, it was terrible. People were insulting each others, and I've been harassed for being a girl.
I don't think Propnight can convince me. But I'm glad for you if you like it. It's cool to have different games from the same sort.
2 -
It's good to hear your enjoying these games 👍 but I don't think anyone will really believe these games will compete with dbd.
Dbd will never have a true competitor unless a AAA company tries to create their own asymmetrical horror game with a few big licences in their starting roster.

Maybe you're right but I guess as the other games grow they still have a chance at least, I just feel like dbd is going downhill
1 -
Propnight is getting sued into oblivion. It's also a buggy exploity mess and a griefer's heaven.
Vhs doesn't really play like dbd. I'd say it's actually very shallow imho. Maybe it'll get more interesting after the beta.

Well I'm in my 40s and I can see the humor in it even if it's not something I would find funny outside of the game, dbd is no different with the endgame chat being far worse than anything I've heard so far playing those games, I just wish the community was as positive here as the ones in those communities sure every community has bad apples but dbd is constantly a big cryfest these days
1 -
Post a link for the lawsuit then, I have a feeling that's just a rumor going around
1 -
I wasn't referring to actual ongoing lawsuits, because I don't know if there are any. I meant that they are inevitable.
0 -
There are small differences that will make those lawsuits thrown out lol in fact now that it's been mentioned a few times this thread shows up on the first page of Google near the bottom, I doubt they will be sued successfully or that a company could even get a lawyer to take the case without something more concrete to go off of because everything as a whole makes it different kinda like how fear street pretty much stole the Jason concept for the summer camp episode
2 -
I don't doubt that some find it fun. But I think others are just forcing themselves to like it because they are in love/hate relationship with dbd and they want dbd to die. Pretty immature imo.
You can enjoy games you like without making everything a "vs" thing and being so emotional about it.
3 -
I don't seem to have access to either of these games on xbox so unless that changes I'm stuck with this lol

Propnight is like a janky, less varied version of DbD. I don't see it being more than a flash-in-the-pan gimmick for a while, then fading into obscurity.
VHS is legitimately decent (if a bit rough), but it's so different to DbD that I don't foresee it stealing many players away.
That all said - there's room for multiple games of a similar genre to exist at the same time.
2 -
VHS looks more like an Overwatch style shooter. Which is fine, but if I wanted to play that style of game I'd just play Overwatch. 🤷♂️
2 -
Hmmm...so you got into the Closed VHS beta, even though they did not send out a new wave of keys? Because other than that you cannot play the game.
0 -
Those games have to establish themselves first, in order to become "competition" and even then they don't have any licensed killers/characters and that is one thing DBD will always have over them.
0 -
Propnight is the kiddie version of DBD😂
0 -
I was in on the last wave of keys I've been playing here and there but not religiously
0 -
That doesn't make it any less fun though and alot of people around here have forgotten what that is, a game doesn't have to be a super serious game to be fun but maybe that's just me
0 -
It's not impossible for them to get licenses, I'm not saying these games are better than dbd, I'm just saying that they're fun to play and if they continue to grow would it compete with dbd due to the game basically being the same for 5 years with backlash on about everything they do, I love dbd and I've put over 10,000 hours in this game alot of people may see this as me shitting on DBD but that's not the case
0 -
well, at least in VHS there is no voice chat between killer and survivor, unlike Friday the 13th and Propnight
0 -
I have propnight. Honest i played it for 2 hours and i got bored. Its just horrible
Toxic people with horrible tunneling and the matchmaking is badly made.
VHS looks like baby fortnite so its not my thing. Also im not into the whole lets kill the killer aspect.
That being said i am always glad DBD is getting some competition because it forces them to improve their game. One game is not going to kill another.
0 -
One thing I wish dbd would've taken from propnight is the killers having 3 different abilities tied to them, it makes things more interesting in my opinion when playing as the killer, maybe I'm just a little burnt out on DBD and something like this is exactly what I need just a non serious game where people aren't upset 24/7 win or lose

As long as the likeness is there then they have a valid suit. The Imposter, Banshee, and Vampire are their biggest issues. City of Heroes was sued a long time ago because people were making costumes that looked similar to Marvel and DC heroes. The right Judge or the right lawyers can make the world of difference.
1 -
Maybe, but the characters you're speaking about have enough differences in the character model to not hold up but I mean it's probably not impossible to get a suit going I just don't see it succeeding, example Akasha the vampire looks like she would fit right into resident evil village but doesn't look like any of the characters it's like a character that could've been added but wasn't, the banshee looks like the nun from conjuring but not exactly and a killer nun can't be copyrighted as a whole, the imposter I'll admit I haven't heard anything on and I don't know what he's a copy from I'm sure if I went digging I could find a similar character

VHS is going to have issue in that it doesn't coddle the survivor(teen) side enough. In DBD, once the killer hooks me, I probably have
BT
DS
DH
to now save myself once unhooked. In VHS, if the monster downs me, my team picks me up, and they can't fight him off (no weapons or he uses an ability) and he decides to down me again, well I just get to eat the floor, as there isn't a special second (or third or fourth) chance ability to ensure I get away. VHS will probably succumb to the asymmetrical game curse of the devs nerfing the monster/killer side and buffing the survivor side to godhood. The game is fun, but it's not hand holdy enough and people who play this genre usually want a lot of hand holding. People who play DBD survivor are going to sorely miss their 4 perks to counter the killer, which they don't get in VHS. The game, however, is far more fun than DBD and when you lose or win, it actually feels like you were good, not that you got carried by overpowered perks and undeserved buffs.

You can just disable it and not talk to people. Or listen to them and not talk yourself. I have not said one word to anyone in the beta. I mute people who have awful mics or get bossy.
The Ping system makes voice less necessary. It still helps as there's somethings you cannot communicate via pings, but the ping system helps a lot to communicate what is happening, once you learn how to use it.

I wish VHS and the rest the best - but the videos i have seen so far don´t really click with me.

I think VHS will do fine for about a month then will become a niche game with a low player base. As an example I played WOW for a long time and every new MMO that came out was the WOW killer. Guess what, they only thing that has "killed" WOW is the direction of the game and people who have played for 16ish years are finally done. Not another game. The same will happen with DBD, it will be fine. People usually go back to what they know. Also people who have invested a lot of time and money don't easily abandon a game once a new similar game comes out.

Look at Docs special skin that's from Crypt TV or something like that. The Imposter is a downright copy, it doesn't matter if he uses a weapon or powers are different, all it takes is the look itself. If enough evidence shows enough similarities they have grounds for a suit and can win with the right judge.

FF sure seemed to sap much of WOW's playerbase and bored players off.
0 -
You are right about FF. I think it was streamers who "pushed" a good amount of players to FF from WOW. To me FF and WOW are pretty similar and I think a good deal of people are starting to migrate back to WOW. Same thing with New World. Huge couple of months, now it is a wasteland. I think most of us have a love/hate relationship with DBD. Even with all the arguing, myself included, I think we all want a healthy, fun and fair game. Unfortunately we all have a different idea of what that would look like.

Dbds biggest competitor right now is among us on console
Why put up with dbd on console when among us is there running great
Rip dbd que times even more
1 -
at least that game works decently unlike dbd.
0 -
I don't really think VHS and Propnight will be actual competition for DBD, but there's always hope.
0 -
It looks like crap
0 -
lowkey only wanted it because my bf hates dbd and really likes it, ill try it again for his sake when early access comes out but without him i wouldnt touch it ever again
0 -
No I'm all for fun, but from what I seen of it it just looks like a kid version instead of getting put on a hook you get put in the timeout chair.
Sorry I didn't mean to offended the ones that find the game interesting. If the game is working as intended good then maybe the DEVs will fix the problems that so many complain about on a daily basis. But the real competition doesn't come out for another year.

So teamwork is not your thing got it

Perhaps @Simfeliz doesn't want to listen to 12 year olds screaming and munching potato chips into their mics. Seems quite reasonable to me.
