PTB Coup de Grace was “too strong” apparently

- This one’s a bit of a rollercoaster: It was originally toned down because it was too strong, but then that made it a little too weak. We’re bumping the lunge increase up to 70/75/80% (also shortening the gap between different tiers of the perk, woo!)
It’s nice to see that an underwhelming perk is getting buffed but anyone who actually plays the game and has a good understanding of it knew Coup de Grace was never strong and the nerf it received from the 4.4.0 PTB made no sense whatsoever. So I have to ask to the devs, what was “OP” about PTB Coup de Grace?

Increasing the lunge is great, but the main issue of Coup is and will always be that you can't choose when to activate the perk and you can't normal lunge without wasting a token, making token management a hindrance to normal gameplay.

This perk will remain worthless as long as Dead Hard exists. Doesn't matter how long your lunge is if the survivor can see your attack coming even earlier.

I would like for Coup to increase the lunge speed. I think it could counter Dead Hard then.

I think the perk is certainly strong on the Shape. Who can instant down with M1.

You can't atm because dead hard validation will eat the extended lunge.
But oh no a perk with a max of 5 uses could counter 1 perk from survivors.

They should make it so you can spend your tokens whenever you want like dead hard. No one will use it anyway, because it's situational.

There is no validation if you lunge into a survivor thats out of its animation. I guess you dont understand how to handle this right.

If a survivor dead hards right now they will eat any hits instead of letting the hit pass through.
This is why Nemesis tentacle at pallets against dead hard does not break the pallet. You cannot coup de grace a dead hard survivor because you'll hit the survivor and be validated instead of landing the hit at the end of the dead hard.

So... technically speaking Coup De Grace was OP during the PTB... because of a bug that made it apply to Demo's Shred and Pig's Dash but not eat a token. Ngl, that and the miss CD reduction add ons made Demo super strong and super fun. Outside of that bug, yeah Coup De Grace wasn't all that strong.

Can't see how a perk that gets 5 single chances of use can be too strong, but unlimited fast healing seems appropriate.

Honestly, not the buff it needed. Currently because you only get 5 total uses (the 4th and 5th arguably needing to be the absolute strongest uses) that means every single use has to be god tier or its basically not worth it/wasted.
They should have changed its activation requirement to hooks, reverted fixing that bug that gives you 5 stacks PER gen pop, or gave it a reasonable cooldown like say... 40 seconds.

Spirit, Nurse, T3 Myers and Wraith were the issue back in the day. 100% was simply too strong on those characters while not really having any cost other than taking up a perk slot. They nerfed it too much to 60%, which is underwhelming on most other than those 4 killers. 80% should make it slightly stronger on those 4, but at least usable on everyone else too.
I'm not a dev, but you do have to take all killers into consideration when perks are balanced. You cannot make a perk "ok" for 99% of the roster and "impossible to counter" on 1% of the roster. It's why most perks are quite mediocre at best, because there is at least 1 specific build that really highlights the potential power of that perk if it were set loose.
The only other way to balance perks is to change the extend of their effect on different killers, but that's gonna cost a lot of time and money for a relatively minor quality of life change, let alone that everytime you change the perk, it has to be changed on every single killer, and everytime you make a new killer, all perks have to be basically recreated and rebalanced.

Possibly getting 5 hits slightly faster over the course a losing game? OUTRAGEOUS. Better 'buff' it up to 80% instead of the original 100%. Oh and also not give them an activation button to use it, like DH has. Because being able to activate a 5/game ability on demand? That would be absurd.
Oh wait, they can just heal those damage states infinitely at double speed with Circle of Healing.
