Mask removal.
It's a cosmetic in a game...there are many others that we can enjoy! It really is not a big deal. I promise this is the last thing I will say about it! lol

A sum of many "not big deals" may turn out to be quite impressive in the end. It's just one small step out of many, showing how much the devs "care" about the players.

While I don’t think removing the masks does anything; they could’ve improved the report system, I don’t see how racism is not a big deal.

i agree with you but will not stop rascism so its useless to punish everyone instead of banning only the accounts who have done this.

The last discussion I wanted to comment this on was closed, so quickly posting it here...
My own take on the situation:
(No-one asked for it, but, well... here I am.)
So I'm glad these are getting removed; admittedly they were a nice way to earn new cosmetics - but if these masks were being used as a tool to target those of colour, then I want them removed for the sake of those that have been targeted.
Will this end racism in the game? No, but it's a step in the right direction.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to apologize on behalf of anyone affected by racism either in or outside the game.

The problem lies where racism doesn't hide its ugly rear end anymore in 2022.
Just saw a post regarding a disgusting racist who only went for the African descent characters like Claudette, Adam and Elodie (Tapp is too rare so I guess he/she couldn't find any) and it didn't require Smartface to be equipped.
The point is, regardless of what cosmetics are added/removed, racists are going to be racists.
Claudette doesn't represent all African Canadians, Jake doesn't represent all Koreans, so instead of actually focusing on the discrimination itself, BHVR decided to censor a harmless feature in the game just because it happens to have a skin tone that's considered "sensitive". Ridiculous.

People are going to be racist regardless of if they have the mask, and people are always going to get upset when a leatherface facecamps. The only difference now is it'll be harder to determine who is facecamping to be racist, and who's facecamping because they can, with no ill intent.

You can't say "They're only cosmetics, stop complaining that they're removed because its not a big deal!" while also celebrating or promoting the removal itself as if the same cosmetics are this big magical deal to you when you most likely weren't even involved in the first place. If it isn't such a big deal, why are you protesting a cosmetic that you MIGHT see once every several hundred games?
The popular argument people use is that nobody should disagree with the removal or else they're just taking it too serious and being immature/entitled. That's heavily ironic considering one can also easily argue that one shouldn't be this offended over a virtual character that they encounter once every 200 matches they play IF that. Should we remove pencils in school because 100 students out of 250,000,000 drew disrespectful pictures of other students in the back of their textbook? They should worry more about petitioning for a more competent reporting/feedback system to handle stuff like this instead of punishing customers that have nothing to do with this
Bad people will be bad people regardless, therefore punishing thousands of players who have these cosmetics by removing them doesn't do anything to curb this behavior nor does it change the fact that what happened already happened. It doesn't solve the issue, change the past or do anything other than punish innocent customers. This is just virtue signaling and making a spicy permanent decision for temporary kudos that will be forgotten by the people praising this in 2 weeks

Its only 25 kills per face thats not a lot of grinding man. Sure it still sucks to loose them i do wish wed only loose smartface and theyd leave the others alone

Why make thread #500 about the masks?
Also; giving them to everyone, so the racists can keep using them, is not the same thing as taking them away, so the racists can't use them. I don't see how you can think 'give them to everyone' fixes the problem.

The whole point of removing them is to remove a tool that people use to harass others with - unlocking it for everyone will not change that.

Removing that masks literally won't solve a thing. People who used smartface to tunnel and camp black characters will still do it, but now with the default or p3 mask instead. So, the problem is still there.
But I guess BHVR took the easy way of removing the cosmetics entirely instead of... Improving the report system, which would've make the game a safer place to the people they say they're trying to help.
At the end of the day the only affected are normal players. Racists who used the smartface will find another way, but normal people who used smartface or any other mask will now have to p3 or spend money if they want to stand out

You're right, they gave us 2,400 more shards than what we'd normally have through 4 common recolours.

Wouldn't hurt to make it 10k.
I'm pretty sure with those 25 matches + having to kill the character you want at least once in all of them, if those matches even have any, is way grindier than just playing the game like someone usually would and get them by just that. I can get 6k shards in about a week or less.

Bubba is the only character with the unique feature of having four unlockable cosmetics. All four cosmetics are being removed and no new ones are taking their place. There are no other unlockable cosmetics to earn and enjoy.

The issue is there are no other free Bubba cosmetics to enjoy (besides prestige which is just the default with ugly blood on it) unless I now pay behavior money.

I have never seen what is being claimed to happen with those masks. I've done what's being claimed to be happening with those masks. It must happen or it wouldn't even be an issue. As someone who doesn't think like that I'll never understand why people can do those things.
for me it's just the removal of a cool aspect to Leatherface all because a bunch of racist ######### had to ruin it for everyone.

From what I could tell, face camping was also a tool used. BHVR removing that? How about the end game chat where most of the nasty words were said?

This was an extremely weird way of handling a serious issue.
On one hand, they removed a tool for racism.
On the other, they literally did absolutely nothing for the reporting system and how it's still such an incredibly buggy mess that's extremely unfriendly to console as well.
I'm upset that they're removed because as huge fan of Texas Chainsaw Massacre I thought it was really cool that you can wear the faces of survivors and hoped for more survivor faces to be added as well.
I get the removal though, but I feel like this is a weird way of going about it when there are still tools in the game people can use to still be hateful. Very hateful. Without putting their foot down on creating a decent reporting system that would not only handle racism, sexism, homophobia, hackers, and the actual DDOS issue that was a huge thing as well.
Plus, there are still people being camped and harassed for having a pride charm who have been mostly untouched. In addition, something tells me you can make still make a racial insult by using charms as well if people are both evil and creative.

Depends. It's a big deal to me. Trying to solve an issue by ruining a unique part of one of horrors icons and an important franchise to me is big. AND without even fixing the issue. It just makes it worse.

The main issue I have with how these were handled is that they removed -all- of the masks when it was just smartface that was the problem. As someone who has been around the net enough my immediate reaction upon seeing that mask was "woooow trolls are gonna run rampant with this" I could see someone arguing that jake could be a potential issue but "whiteface" isn't a real thing as far as I know so I don't see why dwight/meg needed cut. Also improve the report system.
I understand how singling out clauds mask for removal could rub people the wrong way but it seems to me that this whole fiasco is about how things are playing out in reality and not how things should be.

What i don't get is that, if Leatherface would wear Claudettes mask, how do we know that he just couldn't catch up to the Dwight, or if he wears Dwight's mask, how do we know that Claudette just wasn't good at the game, was there really that big of a difference knowing it was "racism" to skill?

Every killer is a PoC. There's no permanently translucent killers in the game.

The best way to stop racism in the game would be if killers saw all survivors as kind of grey shadows. No skin colors, no genders, no cosmetics, everyone looks the same. Maybe with numbers on them so the killer can tell them apart. Otherwise, indistinguishable from one another.
Boom, problem solved. Get on it, BHVR.

People have been complaining about the pride charm because "it doesn't fit" on twitter and here we are, still in the game
The complaints of noed and dh aren't exclusive to the forums and yet here we are they're still in the game
Complaining won't make things magically vanish from the game, because that's not what precedent this is setting, at all.
