Is anyone else just mentally drained by the dbd snd community?
I don't know what it is but I just feel mentally drained just being apart of this community. Maybe I'm crazy but it seems like the community I'd just becoming more and more divided as the game progress and its just depressing and not too fun. Maybe I'm spending to much time on the forum and on dbd in general. Am I being ridiculous or are others feeling the same and is this a sign I need to take a break from dbd?

There is no better time to take a break from Dbd than literally any time you feel like it is necessary. I would honestly say just avoid the forums if you think it will help you feel better, though I think you can still play DbD if you just do not look at the end-game chat and such.

If the ever-present “I’m leaving” posts are anything to go of, you’re not alone.
On that note, I myself have unintentionally taken a hiatus since a few days after the christmas event ended. Simple matter of not feeling like playing DbD, and wanting to play other games and play with friends. We’ve started a private minecraft server, and I’ve undertaken my biggest project yet on there, even if it’s shoddy for anyone else’s standards.
It’s done wonders for my creativity.

Been playing 7 days to die more with the boys and spending less time with DBD and the forums so yeah I feel good in general.

DbD itself not really but i am kinda on a soft-break cause i just bought pathfinder.
The community gives me headaches sometimes. And i'm pretty sure i give others headaches as well. Probably the most divided community ever.
If you take a break from dbd i would advice you to take a break from the forums as well and don't come back untill after a couple of days of playing.
Seeing all the negativity here is going to affect your first matches after a break

I mean, after my long post about (basically) why DbD sucks, I've barely been on the forum and have been playing all kinds of different games and genres. The last time I played a fighting game was when I played War Gods on N64 with my brother back in 2005, and I just picked up Mortal Kombat 11 on sale and have been having a blast! And I'm back to playing osu! and also bought a controller to play Descenders. Not to mention just picked up Rust to play with my brother, can't wait.
In short, it's definitely good to take a break. I honestly think DbD tricks you into playing the game day after day due to it's "content" being locked behind an awful grind--and honestly, it's just not worth it unless you play casually. DEFINITELY take a break from the forum, because there is honestly next-to-nothing useful or worth your time here. And cutting back on the DbD is much needed. I haven't played a match in over 10 days and I'll probably not play again until the Lunar Event, although from what I've heard there's probably going to be nothing for Killers (again). Ridiculous.

Yeah it's probably best to stay off the forum for a while when I'm on a break. From what I can tell a break is going to be good.
Maybe I will take a 3 month break or something
2 -
You liking it? Always wondered about it myself.

I'd like to take a break as well but I have no idea what to play...

Honestly, the less time you spend on the forums or subreddit, the more fun you have and I see that as a fact. The forums and subreddit are filled to the brim with excuses and crying about the game, while long time players or good players still have fun and do good. This game just requires a lot of skill or just mental acceptance about how online games usually work, but for some reason people think dbd is an exception?
I recommend taking even just a 1 week break from the forums and subreddit. Play how you want, play to have fun, play to win, however you want. If you lose, that is ok, be accepting of your own losses, be accepting of your mistakes. Maybe rewatch games and see what you could've done different. Play for hooks instead of kills, anything. I guarantee you feel great and you have fun.
People say every community is bad to a degree but in all the communities I've been a part of, DBD really is the worst when it is bad, but when you find the right people it can feel the best. Don't let the negativity drown it for you just because others can't accept the loss and spread what sometimes feels like blatant lies.

the forums can be tiring. It’s not necessarily the opinions on the game (though frustrating they can be) that bother me but the observations of some members on how they see the world. Everyone will have their own beliefs and that’s amazing but you cannot spread peace with a sword or truth with ignorant thoughts.
in this age, we have access to so much yet somehow we find more lies.
I hope we can all lay down our burdens one day.
1 -
Personally I do my best to avoid the Search And Destroy part of the community lol
2 -
I don't blame you for being tired of this community and forum.
I mean, just take a look at the new Fnaf thread and you'll see what I mean.
Add in all the constant complaining about this or that, and yeah, it's not hard to see why I don't come on here much anymore.
3 -
I have to agree with this.
Negativity breeds more negativity.
You're much more likely to become annoyed at certain things in the game when you've been reading people complaining about it constantly while you're much more likely to brush it off if you don't
2 -
Well, I'm a great believer of that if you don't enjoy something anymore, then it's probably time to let that thing go.
You're definitely not alone in this.

I know how it is.
I am tired of every word falling on deaf ears.
I am tired of seeing the same complaints. Reading the same narratives and lies again, and again, and again...
I am tired of slowly watching the game I once loved become something I despise.
I am just tired.

Oh trust and believe, you're not alone. I've slowly have been trying to distance myself from the "community" because of just how nasty some of the people can be. It's not fun to see almost constant moaning about everything and anything, now, does BHVR deserve it sometimes? Like any other company, yup, they do but the never-ending harping on topics or even just simply taking huge dumps on people that want or would like something different then what you want(like @QwQw said, just look at the most recent FNAF post if you want your mind to be numbed) is just, as you said, draining as hell.
However, the really harsh reality of the matter is, this isn't just a DBD community issue(though, yeah, it is QUITE awful) it's pretty much any "fandom" or "community" you get into. All of them have their bad apples and drama that's included. That's kinda why I'm taking a more "hands off" approach to whatever community these days. Just really watching the people I like and talking with those I actually care about then trying to get into a lot of "conversations" on these forums, Twitter or whatever because, that's not really a conversation but more along the lines of a argument that ultimately, at best, you'll end up at a "agree to disagree" standpoint.

Not drained by the game. The community itself, yes.
People don't want to improve or admit their mistakes. They would rather blame balance, imagined developer bias, SWF, etc. They now have the ultimate cop out via hidden MMR. Losing? Must be max MMR+SWF. Can't be that I'm not as good as I think I am. Someone suggests ways I can improve? They can't possibly have as high of a hidden number as I have.

Nah, I have a huge immunity after Overwatch. I was banned for being Buddhist and trying to defuse bigotry, no kap. THAT is exhausting. This place is fun and the developers are very open and transparent. I love it, here.

I forgot to mention this in my original post but, if you're feeling that drained by either the game or, especially, the community, I suggest taking a extended break. It's always for the best to take breaks from things because, even if you 100% LOVE whatever it is you're playing, you'll get very burned out of said game and then you'll probably just drop it all together.
1 -
I only have a couple hundred hours in the game but it is hard to imagine continuing to play DbD in its current state with Monster Hunter Rise PC, Dying Light 2, Elden Ring, and Horizon Forbidden West all being released over the next 7 weeks. The gameplay loop for both killer and survivor is getting kind of stale to me, but when I do have a really fun and flowy game as Blight I forget the bad and boring matches.
1 -
I'm pretty burnt out playing DBD for sure. I usually main killer, and don't find survivor much fun at all. I don't even bother to kill survivors any more but it doesn't seem to matter because even with my supposedly low MMR I still encounter sweat squads often. (Perhaps THEY are the ones smurfing to bully low rating killers?) At the moment I'm barely logging in to maintain the dailies, but considering its only like 60k BP (30k from daily 30k~ from the match) I'm probably going to stop doing that soon too.
I might check back in when the new killer comes out, but who knows how long I'll be staying after that. As far the community is concerned, the 'Us vs Them' mentality is pretty old. You can't suggest buffs for one side without someone shooting in first comment with some whataboutism. And then when you agree that those buffs could be a good idea, the entire thread basically derails into your heretical opinion on Y when X was your original idea.
I think the thing that frustrates me the most though is the updates. I feel like it would matter less that the game is "unbalanced" if more changes happened every patch. It feels like the devs are more occupied with some arbitrary and tiring limit of balance than just making the game fun. I've said in a couple other threads, but I think the devs need to move DBD into a mode of circular imbalance. That way everything can be strong, but still have its purpose and have a mechanism to naturally push the meta change along over time because everything has an answer for it.

I have been playing dbd way way less than I used to, this game used to be a daily thing for me, now I'm being generous if I play once a week.
Even then the only reason I actually play is to get spicy blight clips to upload because that's the only way I find fun on this game anymore.
0 -
I've been playing less lately myself, I had a lot of fun with the winter event so now regular gameplay a bit of a drag.

Honestly, how some the community is I'd say is far more harmful for the game than any balance issue, bugs and so forth.
I've heard of influencers considering leaving because they've not been heard, but other than maybe one video by Scottjund which mocked a specific way people argued on forums I have not seen any significant video holding those of the community to account for the problems of the game.
I do feel something needs to be pointed out. All the talk about DBD promoting this behaviour by having tools in place for BMing frustrates me, because they are only tools if people see them as such and take advantage. People cannot hold their own responsibility for the failings. That's the worst part of the game for me.
1 -
Dude I haven't played war gods in so long. And most people have no idea what I'm talking about when I describe it, they think it sounds like some fever dream lol it was fantastic though, with my favorites being voodoo Medusa and Cy 5

From the forums? Yes, although it's still the best thing to read when taking a #########.
From the game? No, still play and watch a lot.

Is this not an adult game?
Can we really not say....
Shhhhhhhh
It.... went out the window .
Let's kill and hang folks on a meat hook, but don't say #########.

If you're talking about 7D2D yeah I like it. Played several playthroughs with it already and there's some great mods that enchances the game even further. I must warn you that the game is not for everyone you need to have some interest and patience in survival games.

Honestly yes. DBD is in a pretty bad state right now. And like I have said since the beginning its due to BHVR's complete lack of even a shred of competence.
2 -
I'm 3 days clean of dbd, luckily escape from tarkov has been keeping me busy.
1 -
Yeah, I really enjoy the game but the forums can be...something.
That said, those patch notes may be some of the worst in recent memory. The Twins and Nemesis nerfs are patently ridiculous and demonstrate that BHVR are balancing their game in a pretty nearsighted, out of touch way.
0 -
Nah you're probably right. The community has gotten far more divided in the last year or 2 with the us vs them mentality between killer and survivor when both sides should want the other side to be just as fun to keep the whole playerbase healthy.

You are not being a ridiculous at all. Online gaming communities, and DBD is no exception, are full of hateful, aggressive people who absolutely suck the soul out of anyone that says anything. The last time I tried to write a nice, detailed idea on changes that would improve game health I only got one answer to my post where I was degraded and talked down to like I was a child. Online gaming has become an absolute hotbed for people who can't think critically, have no sense of appropriate social behavior, and generally just suck. There are a few good apples nestled amongst the rot, but good luck interacting with them without a deluge of garbage.
Take twitter for example. Somebody does this amazing piece of fanart, it's gets reposted by DBD/Behavior, and then followers start trash talking the devs on the post, flooding that person's twitter with hate. When they ask them to please stop, that the notifications are coming to them, not DBD/Behavior, they turn on that innocent person. I have seen multiple artists have to block all replies on their original post just to get it to stop, and some have posted afterward how they regret even posting their work at all. Freaking unbelievable.

Devs should as well cause recently it seems they want to fuel the fire rather than put it out.
The most recent updates have shown this mentality more and more,
1 -
It starts and ends with the impression of BHVR as being 'survivor favored', which does set up an 'us vs them' issue. And I must say, while it's not as bad as it once was, I do think that there is at least a double standard in play.
When one 'side' of your game is making about 90% of the 'I'm frustrated, this role is too frustrating' posts on the forums, that definitely suggests that something is wrong.

I feel like they just release stuff then wait years to touch anything. think about ds, we got 1 rework. then it took years to get it in a state it isnt miserable to play against. changes will come, its just soo slow that it's misery. I wish they would test and collect data on testing changes more often. I think everyone would like that.

Eh could be worse
Forums were awful 2 years ago was just pure whining and us vs them posts
1 -
I mostly played Vallah and Anubis 😊 So fun! I mostly just played against my brother but he actually beat the campaign... god gamer.

Yes killer has become far more frustrating over the past couple years but its not survivors fault. Also don't act like survivors don't have legitimate problems of their own, killers are rewarded far too heavily for a gameplay style that just isn't fun to play against, I dont care if it's the easier and more effective way to play it's not fun to go against.
This is the problem, I'm not arguing one side over the other, I'm saying that bhvr has made tons of poor design decisions that have led the community to fight each other because the balance on each side is very different and most people main one side and even when they play the other they still see the game from their preferred side.
2 -
both sides have insanely boring gameplay atm. its heal fast af, and pre drop pallets with second chance perks vs all gen slowdowns. its a very boring meta i think needs to be addressed to fix the game. but yea.
1 -
I agree, the meta is super boring and has been for years, the fact that there hasn't been a new game mode really exacerbates this issue.
