Do Survivors Get Hate Mail?

I don’t mean end game chat, I mean where people go out of their way to look up your username and send you a personal message about how much you suck. As a killer main, every time, I get a "gg" I am always surprised because I think it is just more hate mail.

Well my friend, who is a survivor main, says he doesn't experience this. Do any other survivors out there share in his experience, or is the opposite true?

Its really rare and when this happen its mostly the other survivor whos going to semd the hate.

The killer normally just go next or complain about the map or circle of healing anyway thats my experience

This. I'm on PC, and I never accept friend requests in the postgame unless I talked with someone in postgame chat and actually made a connection more than a typical friendly back and forth, so I can only really speak to ingame communication. But when I have players raging at me in endgame chat, it's almost always the teammates. The killer doesn't care unless they're a salt farmer (and in that case, they don't care about you in particular, they just want your tears) or unless you played like an absolute asshat and it somehow stood out above the usual asshattery killers get bombarded with.

If you play in a bully SWF, you might see hate mail from killers more often. I wouldn't know. But other than that? Probably not.

The only hate mail I've ever gotten is from a survivor. It's either survivor to killer or survivor to survivor. The one time a killer has messaged it was, "Y'all did really well, ggs" after we all escaped.

Kind of strange how the side known most for BMing you in game are also the ones most likely to send hate mail afterwards 🤔

I'm not saying it doesn't exist on killer side, but it's far far less common.

I've had times where I've dropped the occasional teabag mid chase, which usually ends with me getting hooked a minute later while they shake their head and hit me on hook. And I'm like, okay you won that round I deserve this. I don't message them, they don't message me.

yessir there are just as many salty killers there are just more survivors in general so you see it less but ive had many killers get extremely mad and message me on steam or cry in end game chat when playing survivor

Most definitely. Not as often as killer, but it happens.

I have almost 250 people blocked on PS network, all survivors. I've had two killers message me, and that was a Ghostface asking to farm and a Hag saying gg

PS4 player here. I got hate mail as a survivor... from other survivors. I never got hate mail from a killer.

On ps4 I had my messages turned off already from when I played Destiny 2 because of sore winners/losers there. Thanks to DBD I found out there's a loophole where if you don't have your account completely private, as in can't even receive friend requests private, then people can include their salty message with a friend request. It was never a nice gg, was always someone bitter about the game. It didn't matter if they won or lost. I received them from both survivors and killers when I would play survivor and it was always something silly. I made my profile private because I get more joy knowing these players that just want to yell at everyone get to stew in their anger instead of being able to take it out on some stranger. I do find it funny that people would go so out of their way to find a loophole to try and send their angry messages instead of just moving on to the next match or playing something different.

I read above that most people say "yes but from survivors exclusively". I disagree.

(Note : I play both sides almost equally. Player since 2016, 3000h)

As survivor I play extremely altruistic and even though I sometimes get salty noob teammates they don't harass me out of the game. Killers though... I you play well against them (I don't play toxic or BM or anything at all, I just play the best I can to save everyone even if that means I die to save the 3 others instead of letting the killer get 3kills) they'll completely lose their mind. I now changed my steam name to avoid being harrased on twitter and youtube (where I don't even show DbD content, it's music related, but I got death threats, insulting, homophobia, etc...) because of these killers that don't like to lose.

Also, that's weird but I got harrased more when I played SoloQ than when I was with friends sometimes (I used to be a big solo player, now I prefer to chill with friends because randoms nowadays...well you know. Even if my friends are not good at the game at least they try to play and not hide in a bush). I think that's because when killers get destroyed by a SWF they can blame the game and everything and move on. But when they get destroyed by a SoloQ they can't blame anyone but themselves and their egos are too big to accept that...

It might not be everyone experience but I wanted to share mine

Yeah, it's usually other survivors complaining that I didn't save them but occasionally I'll get salty messages from killers too. Once in a while I'll get nice messages from either side. I'd say 90% of the time I get no messages at all.

Edit: oh and only a handful of times did I think the salty messages crossed the line from normal trash talk/venting into straight up toxicity

Since I switched to pc all outside communications are easily locked down but for the first year I was on ps4 I had to remember to shut off messages and boy did I get spammed if I didn't. Survive or die I'd figure out pretty fast as the second someone that wasn't me died I'd start getting notifications telling me I needed to drink bleach.

Yes, occasionally I got a killer telling me just as unflattering things, but it was mostly survivors over killer.

I havent gotten hatemail as survivor in quite some time. The one time I did, it was a survivor calling me dogshit cause I escaped and they didnt. I used a locker to evade getting caught, and I was new and kept crouching away. Fun times

Just had a killer harass me a few minutes ago. Told me my play was boring and called me garbage. I reported all his messages but nothing will happen most likely. He was a 1 rank.

I almost harassed a surv for being an ######### and wasting my streamers on them but I thought of this thread and didn't. Good times?

  • SunsetSherbet
    SunsetSherbet Member Posts: 1,607

I have only once ever had a survivor come to my stream to scream what a terrible teammate I was for not dying with him by hook diving to save him vs NOED. That's the only time in 2500 hours. I have had people go pretty far when I am killer though. Spam my chat, get buddies to come in to attack me, send messages to my twitch, make comments on screenshots of unrelated games etc.

I only get messages when I play as Jeryl. It's usually other survivors who tell me my cosmetic is disgusting.

Killers rarely message me, but if they do it's always a Bubba or a Wraith.

I play respectfully so theres usually no need for anyone to message me besides a gg.

Literally just got out of probably my most 'wat' match ever, where I was insulted seven ways from Sunday because I...let people go on their death hooks. They even commented that my Steam profile was private (and yeah, boy am I glad it is).

This community can be utter arse sometimes.

The last time I brought streamers I gold cussed out and told 'u dont deserve BP' by a lag-switching 3man. Now nobody gets streamers outside of hunts.

Ps4 player here too. I’ll never forget when some one on my team messaged me calling me a dumb jill (I was Claire) and blaming me for not getting 4 man escape. We got 3 man escape and that person that messaged me escaped too😐.

I don't really get hate mail from either side. I usually don't play like a jerk (this goes for both sides).

On my profile, I believe that I have about 2 or 3 negative comments from my time playing Survivor (considering how many negative comments I get, that number is extremely small).

  • Sludge
    Sludge Member Posts: 768

The only time I've ever gotten comments on my profile as a survivor was from other survivors, usually because of a challenge or achievement forcing me to play more selfish.

As killer I have pages and pages, they're like trophies.

  • Pizzasauce
    Pizzasauce Member Posts: 940

It's not even playing like a jerk, it's like if you have a bad match you don't hear the end of it. Survs can be relentless. I just had a guy and his friend messaging me the exact same thing at the same time. They told me to go eat cabbage whatever tf that means.

Spirits are particularly hateful players. They often tunnel and when the tunnelled person escapes, they can't handle the fact and show it in the end game chat.

It's true that some people will just say things to piss off the other person for no reason (both sides). I'm just saying that I personally don't get much hate because I usually don't play scummy.

Oh, yeah. I've gotten plenty when I play survivor (as well as killer). I have a friend who got hate mail and still does to this day by the same killer. They have an ongoing feud of who can stay red rank 1 and just talk made crap to each other. And no, they're not friends but they'll randomly send each other screen shots of their ranks to see who's better. It's actually pretty hilarious.

I play on PC so I cant get hate mail but the post game chat I usually get more salt from Killers when I play Survivor than from Survivors when I play Killer.

In my experience Survivors get tilted when they feel cheated out of their time like getting tunneled or camped and Killers when they feel cheated out of their kills by stuff like flashlights/DS/bodyblocks. If you play Killer and almost everyone ends between 15k-20k even if they all died you will rarely get any salt.

P.D. I rarely get any salt at all, usually its a weekly occurence not a daily one.

Oh, yes, but we do it old school. I go to the Post Office and get stamps so I can send them literal hate mail. By the time it arrives, they will have completely forgotten which killer sent it which is the charm of it all. I am sure they try their best to remember who would have been petty enough to find out where they live to send a strongly worded letter, but they will never know it was me.

Someone with 28 hours told me to uninstall the game because I escaped when the killer had Noed, one person opened the gate, one was dead and one was being camped. That was a big sad moment :c

Whenever I have received a private message, it was another survivor.

Like, once I was trying to save a Steve that was on the floor and it'd be his 3rd hook, so I tried to distract huntress away from him.

I got a very nasty message because I wasted their DS lol.

How am I meant to know that, son?
