How would you guys nerf COH without making it useless?

So I've been thinking of how you'd nerf COH without turning it into a useless self care and I can't think of any. I feel like the perk would need a rework. Do you guys have literally any ideas?

yes. You have at least 50 pages on this forum about coh tweaks. Its not the problematic perk, its values are

    Remove self-heal part.

We'll make it for everyone is still good, but you would have to use medkit, or get other survivors to heal you.

Self-heal is the most broken thing about it imo.

Or make self-heal part only for the owner.

I would reduce the radius. 24 meters is huge and should be tones down slowly until the performance feels fitting. There is no reason for all Boon perks to have the same shared radius for me: Start by giving Cycle of Healing 16 meters and buff Exponantial to 32 meters.

Global 60 second cooldown on all boons when one gets snuffed

Change the healing speed bonus to 33%

That makes healing others take 12 seconds and healing yourself 24 seconds. Still better then selfcare but a lot more managable.

It would overall be a good thing to put a cap on healing speed buffs in general. This really shouldn't go above 100% increase ever. You can have perks like autodidact to make it faster.

And finally maybe make it so when snuffing a boon it gets blocked by the entity for 30-60 seconds or so. Not to sure about this one as the only boon perk that's overtuned is CoH

By removing it permanently from the game and I'm not joking. I do genuinely think COH was a mistake and two steps backwards.

    I have 2 options:

Option 1: Add 60 seconds cool-down. So if killer snuff it, you can not bless any totem for 60 seconds.

Option 2: Make self-heal speed 50%. So you can bring Self-Care for yourself without risk or you can bring CoH for all team.

Survivors within the radius gain a 50% healing speed boost when healing without a medkit.

Unlocks the ability to heal yourself without the use of a medkit.

Just take medkits out of the equation and lower the value. Self-healing is now somewhat more efficient than someone else healing you to compensate for the time spent blessing the totem, but it's still considerably slower than current state and can no longer be stacked with a big medkit.

Delete it. group wide free healing should not be in the game. Medkits were already strong enough and on the edge of needing a nerf.

You could also go the other way and not touch it but give gen regression a meaningful % after kicking it, and/or faster regression that requires more than 0.1 sec to stop it.

It might even slow down tunnelling.

Make it like hex perks. Once it's destroyed it's gone for good.

    Remove self/heal part OR

    Remove healing speed bonus

Then there is a general problem with boons being re-blessable. Options: (Of course only one of the below)

Make it possible to bless only X times (I'd say 1 or 2)

Make it so that each totem can be blessed only once.

Make the killer be able to break a boon totem

Make snuffing disable the perk for X seconds (like 100+)

Make it only work on the floor it's on,reduce the range and give it a cooldown when snuffed.Healing speed really needs a cap tbh.

One great thing would be to make it, and all boons, a one time light per player

Snuffed boons break the totem, and now strong totem locations can only be used one time.

Already wrote how to nerf it. The Goal should be to change the meta perk to a "nice to have" perk.

Boons shouldn't be infinite to set.

The heal speed should be lowered especially for solo heals. Also the speed shouldn't stack with other items or perks. To give perks like self care and sloppy butcher their power back.

Boons should only work on the map level, where it's placed.

And to give pentimento a reason, boon totems need a longer place time on hex totems.

I think after it gets snuffed you get a cooldown before you can bless again.

CoH is not the problem, Healspeeds are.

As a general Boon-Nerf, Boons should only apply to one floor. They are designed in a way that the Killer can snuff them out fast, this is not the case if they need to go to a different floor, while the Survivors benefit from the Boon on all Floors.

If someone wants to set up a Boon on the top Floor of Midwich, they should have to be on the Top Floor to get the Benefits.

    Then, regarding Heal-Speeds:

Either, capping Heal Speeds at a specific Value (I throw in 150%, to make green Medkits still worth it).

Or, make CoH static values - healing someone else always takes 8 seconds, healing yourself always takes 16 seconds. So a Survivor cannot bring a green Medkit, Charge Add-On, Speed Add-On, Botany Knowledge, Desperate Measures and has a Self-Heal time of 5 seconds.

This would keep CoH a strong Perk, while removing the ability to stack Healing Speeds to have a way too fast heal time.

    1. max out the heal rate to no more than self-care if you’re healing yourself or normal heal rates if teammates are healing you.
    2. doesn’t go through floors in multi-level maps
    3. limit number of uses with tokens and/or increase amount of time to bless totem

    Make the self-heal speed 50%.

Now it's the best perk a killer can bring for every survivor: Self Care.

make an option to disable boon totems for survs. And then, survs can’t escape through the doors if a boon totem is blessed

  • VikingDragonXii

It wont be it's a Survivor Perk it will be just fine or the Devs will think it's too weak and will be buffed then the Devs will say oh look the other two Boon Perks are not seeing any use let's buff them as well.

It has two major imbalances in my opinion:

Firstly, it should have a cool-down. It's kind of ridiculous that a survivor can bless the same totem a killer just snuffed seconds earlier.

And secondly. the self-care part is really broken. Self-care is its own, standalone perk that requires a perk slot - so it's really unfair that if one survivor out of four brings CoH, all four survivors essentially get a buffed self-care perk for free (I say buffed because it's much quicker to heal yourself with CoH than it is with SC). My fix for this would be either to nerf the self-healing time so it takes longer, or limit the number of self-cares allowed perk totem.

I like the introduction of Boon totems as it's added a new dynamic to the game so I'm not opposed to it per say, but you only have to look on YouTube to see how easily CoH can be abused.

There are all SEPARATE ideas, not a list of everything to do.

    1. Make Boons limited in use. So stupid that Boons are infinite.
    2. Put a hard cap on healing speed buffs, so Survivors can't lightspeed-heal.
    3. Make the Boon noises louder.
    4. Make the Booned totem glow. Why not? Killers have perks applied to gens, and said perks make the gen glow so Survivors know to disable it ASAP (Looking at you, Pyramid Head perk I forgot the name of). Do the same to Boons. Why should boons get to be more powerful AND hidden?

All I know is that if it becomes worse than self care, then there’s no points in using it. I do agree It needs a nerf just not one that makes it useless

  • Yankus
    Yankus Member Posts: 638

Remove the self heal part. It would still be a good perk since it increases everyone's heal speed by double. If you have self care then it would still double your self care heal speed.

COH doesn't need a nerf at all. If it did, there are much worse perks and addons at play that could take a hit. COH is great for solo queue as you can encourage your teammates to actually heal themselves.

I would nerf healing in general

Make it so every time you heal, the next heal will cost more charges. First heal 16 charges, then 18, 20, 22, etc.

This not only nerfs CoH but medkits as well.

Remove 100% healing bonus and leave the self heal action. Simple.

I'd put a cooldown on being able to relight a Boon that increases every time the one you lit is snuffed. If that means buffing any of the other Boon perks as compensation, so be it.

I know medkits use charges to heal but I couldn't tell you how many it takes to heal to full off the top of my head.

Making CoH work off a charge system might be an option. Once all charges are expended the totem runs out of power and turns to ash or something. In addition, totems could have a charge counter variable attached to them that is only active when it's a boon. This would keep track of how much 'life' can be given from a single totem so if a killer snuffs it and a survivor reignites it you can't get a full set of charges all over again.

Limiting the Y axis of the AoE so that it can never cover more than a single floor would be another option as well.

Not sure exactly where the balance lies but its definitely aggravating when I play killer in its current form.

All you need to do is make it like Freddies wake up action for survivors. Make it take longer each time, and imo that would make the perks perfectly balanced!

It's not really a tweak on the boon per say but it would make sense if the killers got points for snuffing the totems and it actually destroyed them so that the same one couldn't be blessed over and over again.

After the killer snuffes it the perk is on cooldown for 60 sec. Simple as that.
