Usually the anniversaries have a licensed killer, so I was surprised they announced Ringu for March instead of waiting for the anniversary. It makes me think that maybe whatever they have planned for June is an even bigger license, which if that's the case is pretty amazing since I can't think of too many IPs that would be at least as popular as Ringu / The Ring. (Then again it could just be a timing thing and maybe the 6th Anniversary killer isn't a big license or is an original, who knows?)
The licenses that come to mind might be:
- Friday the 13th - It's no secret they'd love to get Jason in the game, and there was movement on the legal front last year toward that end so he's in the running possibly.
- Five Nights at Freddy's - I've never played the game, but there's no doubt it's a hugely popular video game franchise and there's frequent requests for it in DbD. I'd be surprised if Behaviour hasn't at least looked into it.
- IT - This is probably the biggest horror license they could get aside from Jason at this point. I'm skeptical it'll happen only because if they were going to do an IT chapter I suspect it would have happened when one of the movies was coming out as part of a marketing push. But hope springs eternal!
- The Conjuring/Nun/etc Universe - There was a rumor a while back they were working on something along these lines I think? Turned out not to be the case so far but that doesn't mean it's not a contender.
- Dracula/Werewolf - I could definitely see a classic monster like Dracula or a Werewolf being added, especially since they don't necessarily need a license to do one. (They'd need it if they wanted to for instance make Universal's version of the monsters, but if they did their own spin on it then they're both copyright free at this point I think.)
- Alien - So yeah, there's always Alien in the background as a possibility. On the plus side, the Alien IP holders seem perfectly happy licensing out the critter to video games, but on the other hand that could mean it's tied up with a different video game company currently which would make it tougher for Behaviour to license. (And yeah, technically Alien falls under science fiction, but the original Alien movie certainly meets the Horror criteria as well, it's super creepy!)
It's all speculation though, who knows what they're planning? 🤷♂️

It may be because I hate FNAF, but the day FNAF joins; I'm taking a long vacation.
This game is toxic enough without adding 12 year olds who follow their favorite youtuber who screams loudly.

That’s not really true most of those “12 year olds” are in there 20s now there not kids anymore plus the old fans would be majority. Even though a new game came out I think this DLC would attract more old fans then kids

I will say this, if they wanted to reskin Demogorgon as something else, Alien wouldn’t be a terrible choice.

Like @dugman said, there's honestly, quite a few selections that can come about and, I basically agree with a lot of what they said.
F13 is a possibility but, I still can't see it just quite yet because, despite the fact that the legal issues are now over, now, comes the "how do we actually split the money?" side which, oh boy, seeing how long it took to actually sort the legal stuff out who knows how long that's gonna be. Still, it does have a decent shot though.
I fully agree with what Dug said about FNAF, insanely popular and almost never-ending requests for it.
IT is one that even MCote wants but, it just seems like the IP holders themselves don't want to do for whatever reason. That said, if there was any a time, it would be during a anniversary chapter.
Alien would be fantastic but, it's Disney and, from what I've heard, you don't go to Disney for possible collabs, no, they go to YOU for it. BHVR has done work in the past for them but I'm just not sure if they're on Disney's radar right now but, they do seem to want to have Alien live on when it comes to video games and they even have a new series coming out so, here's hoping! Also, come on @AngyKiller, acting like 12 year old's or, at least, people who act like 12 year old's, don't play the game already! xD

Sluzzy becomes a dev, and for them to give us anniversary maps in the bloodweb for survivors. For killers I don’t know maybe the blight serum or maybe make purple addons basket for the entire event. Double blood points and anniversary cakes

I don't believe for a second that anything made by Stephen King is gonna make it into DBD, the last video game related piece of media that was related to King's work came out 3-4 decades ago. So i'd be very surprised if we somehow end up with Pennywise or Jack Torrance or Carrie.

I'd rather it be original honestly.
I'm aware that the last three anniversary Chapters have been licensed, but if it happens again, that would mean four of the last five (and a half) Chapters were licensed. Resident Evil, Hellraiser, Ringu & whatever this license would be, with only Portrait of a Murder & Mikaela breaking it up.
I want more original content.

Annivesary Chapters are big licenses. Ghostface, Pyramid Head and Nemesis. So i think we can wait bigger license than Ringu. So who can join family?
Scooby Doo Chapter (Only issue with this license, they can not add killer. SD has great survivors but no killer.)
It (BHVR loves this license, so if there is any chance they will go for him.)
F13 (Jason is most popular slasher and lawsuit ended but even they asked, it is early for 6th annivesary.)
Alien (One of the classics)
Predator (Power can be problem for killer but license is fine.)
Terminator (We really need Robot Killer, this is good chance.)
Child's Play (Chucky is another popular slasher, so they can go for him.)
But last 2 annivesary chapters were from video games, so if they go with same way:
Bioshock (This is good video game series. Big Daddy can fit in DbD. But i have no idea for survivor. Elizabeth probably.)
Last of Us (Another license has good survivors. But for killer? I have no idea.)
Dead Space (This chapter will be perfect if they go for it.)
Evil Within (This chapter is also good. Microsoft own it. And BHVR is seem like has good relationship with Microsoft. So i think this license is also possible.)
FNAF (So much people wants this, so maybe BHVR can add this license too. But i never played games.)
If they go for free licenses:
Dracula (Most popular vampire and classic evil. And people really want to see Dracula in game. And we saw him in one of the tomes. So maybe?)
Werewolf (Like Dracula, they can add WW killer. But i don't think WW is strong enough for annivesary.)
Frankenstein (Is this license free? I am not sure but they can go for big dead boi.)

Eh. We got Bubba and Billy, and now Spirit and Sadako. So long as he has an original power, I don’t see the problem.

What license will be joining DbD...well, we still got Slenderman and Candyman up.
Also Bioshock would be a good fit with Big Daddy and Little Sister and could make both games a good load of publicity, bringing people over from one game to the other if done right. Also with the new AI mechanic of Zombies this Killer could work.
Overall I expect Crowns and some more quests, maybe even a tome like for Halloween. The last two events where quit nice in retrospective: Halloween gave us two free skins and a tome to work with and winter event gave us snowmans as a fun mechanic.
I would hope for a recap of their activities thou to check which of their goals they have reached and what is next for the game.

Regarding Dracula/Wolfman, judging by the archive scene they might go for a more Vlad the Impaler style, and that would be free to use. If they used to book, the copyright on that ended in 1962, so thats fair game. I don’t think they’d use the universal monster versions, as they’re a bit too…human-esque? I’m not sure how to describe it. As for the wolfman/a werewolf, I’m sure it would definitely be the latter for the reason mentioned above.

I kinda hope for a big original chapter. Introducing many new base game mechanics along a new killer and survivor (let’s face it, the community would cry buckets if there weren’t new characters)
the often mentioned game mechanic that incorporate Moris and hatch into the base game, the mechanic that started out as Early game collapse concept, new/additional survivor objective mechanics.
That, or give me Alien.

They can't reskin any characters from the Stranger Things chapter as BHVR doesn't have the rights to this anymore.

They can always reskin mechanics under different themes. Netflix doesn’t own the rights to a “generic lunge attack“ for example.
