Don't tell me this is true...
Are Bubba masks really going to be removed? My friend told me and I thought it was a joke but hearing his tone doesn't seem like it. He also said that Bubba got his addons nerfed. Why...?

Masks are being removed very soon.

Wow just wow

It's true, 1 post.

But… You’re getting 6k iridescent shards if you’ve played Bubba at least once, ever.

It's a shame but it's true. See it this way: Behaviour doesn't want to moderate their game, they rather let their entire playerbase suffer.
And they still don't understand why people are quitting DBD.😐️

It took me more than a half year to earn those cosmetics. I don't know what I can use 6k iridescent shards when I have well over 81k.
2 -
Bubba's aren't friendly😂
3 -
I don't know what they're doing but most of my friends did quit this game because it got stale and they didn't like boons.

I'm a very different Bubba :)
1 -
The insane amount of cheaters, unbalanced maps, the terrible MMR system and indeed also BOON totems make people want to quit. If the devs are ever going to listen to their players this might going to be different, but for now we have to deal with or like a lot of people do: quit the game until changes are made...

Yeah, the general tension surrounding the Smartface mask reached a boiling point with a recent rise in racially motivated harassment from people using that mask. Evidently BHVR decided it'd be better to remove them all than specifically single out Smartface, which I kind of understand.
I do wish the amount of shards we get for playing Bubba was higher, though. 9K would at least guarantee we could get a full character.
3 -
How is this possible? Do they purposely use Smartface to go after certain survivors?
0 -
It's reasonable. Voting with your wallet and quit playing is a way to get them moving.

I've not been paying super close attention. My understanding is that Smartface, on top of already making some players uncomfortable and seeming very racially charged at first glance, became the "uniform" of overtly toxic players. Some of whom presumably also used post game chat and steam profile comments and such to be more explicitly racist.

Certain people, definitely (through stream sniping black streamers, as one way). But I know for a fact they just do it to random Black survivors, too, based off my own experience of being facecamped, hit on hook, nodded at, all at 4 gens left with no bm of any kind and me being the 3rd survivor hooked. Complete with slurs in endgame about Claudette
It definitely happens, and while I wasn't affected since I'm pale as hell I can definitely empathise with people that really don't want to be targeted and harassed just for being black.
6 -
That's a bummer. I never do such a thing. I mostly facecamp them if they flashlight spam me and most Claudettes do that to annoy me coupled with teabagging and such but I don't condone racial profiling.
I'm sorry that this happened to you.

It only happened to me a couple times. To some black streamers it was happening daily.
Same with Asian streamers and the Jake mask, at least in EU. Removing them is probably for the best.

There's this new thing in the game called reporting a player who engages in racist behavior. BHVR is being lazy and virtue signaling instead of actually monitoring their game. This won't stop people from face camping players of a certain ethnicity b/c racist. The logical conclusion to this is BHVR just removes the ability of the killer to hook players. Racist people will find a way to be dicks. They should be removed from the game instead of removing features or mechanics.

Yeah, it's a shame. I disagree strongly with BHVR on their reasoning here - it sends a very dangerous signal. Now, basically anyone who wants to be a butt turkey knows that if they do something in a certain way, they can get something other people enjoy taken away. It's the bloody 'okay' emote again.
However, it's a fight that we've already fought - and lost. The arguments have been presented and this is the direction they've decided to go. I do think that the shard reward should be much higher though.

Posts like this are why I was very careful to mention that these players are not the only factor that went into this decision. People were already uncomfortable with Smartface and had pretty legitimate arguments for why, this was just the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak.
You don't have to agree - I'm on the fence myself - but there's nothing inherently ridiculous, overreaching, or lazy about this decision.

I don't know if taking away Bubba's custom faces will solve it all because as far as I'm aware, racism is still ongoing across the globe whether you or me or others are Asian, European, American, African, etc.
I don't think that removing this will solve it and they'll keep doing this to ensure their agenda is fulfilled.
1 -
That's exactly me, only played him once, never touched him again, free 6k shards for me, lol

I agree with your statement but how is BHVR supposed to do that exactly? These people are really smart and I have a feeling that most of them are trolling to feed them off from their emotional response which thrives them to do it continuously. They'll say that they go after the survivor to camp because it's a valid strategy. They won't say the exact survivor because then they'll give them proof which they obviously don't want.

If the only time something can be done is if it solves all racism, then nothing will ever be done.

Agree to disagree :) bubba is wearing someone else's face on his default character model. Any arguments that would apply to him earning an achievement survivor face mask would also apply to his grandma face and his default look.

I disagree. It does feel like an overreaction, based on a handful of bad actors and a deliberately uncharitable interpretation of something (much like the recent storm in a teacup over the new Warlock set in WoW).
My main concern though is precedent. This sets up a situation where someone can try to have the devs remove x by using x in a particularly nasty, bigoted way. To me, it's letting the trolls win.
But again - it's a fight that we've already fought and lost, and I'm not Custer.

1. Holy #########, WoW is still a thing?
2. this is something that was already problematic (being blackface and all). I can't think of a single other item in game that's similar. Also I'm just not convinced by any "slippery slope" argument. I got fooled once, and still can't legally marry a duck.

The precedent this sets only applies to things that are already contested. People already had very good reasons to be iffy about Smartface, even if others are fine with it. It isn't just any old thing that bad actors chose at random to start polluting, this isn't some "OK hand symbol" situation, it's something that already made some people uncomfortable and that's why those bad actors chose it.
I'd agree with you if it weren't something many people already raised concerns and objections to. If it were something just polluted by bad actors, this would just be a straight up overreaction- but it wasn't, so it's not.
That's not to say I think this was necessarily the best solution, but it is very much a legitimate one.

It's something that sadly will be present in any online discourse. There will be people who say and do things in games which would in real life get your ass kicked. The solution is to remove those persons from the game using the report system. However BHVR needs to improve their reporting system b/c realistically only streamers can effectively use it since BHVR requires video evidence. If BHVR would enable game replay or start collecting chat data or something so that they can be proactive, then we'll see more bans & less of this disgusting behavior. The same approach would help get rid of hackers faster.

don't stop playing him now im very sorry my friend i also had all the bubba masks but the reason they did it was because people were complaining that it caused bubbas to target the 4 main characters to get the masks and also cuz the smart face was kinda sus

I don't think BHVR had any ill intent to release these masks and it's a fact that Bubba Sawyer is a person who was mocked and shamed over his appearance that he wear other faces to look.... normal because he doesn't want to feel insecure.

ok?

I'm not really looking to debate this again at length, because the forum mods are a bit iffy around this conversation and it's very hard to make my point while also exercising the necessary care not to get banned. Plus, the issue is already decided.
I will say that:
- Comparing this to actual blackface is somewhat disingenuous. There is no intent here to be offensive or belittling, and I'd maintain that Bubba not wearing the faces of someone of a different race would be more problematic. Equality and all that. For the devs, if people insist on exercising this little charity, it sets up a perfect lose/lose situation.
- A slippery slope is not always a fallacy. This is why I used the word 'precedent'.
- I don't think the 'okay' symbol is in anyway problematic. It's a globally used gesture to indicate something positive. The entire controversy stemmed out of an 'op' from the chans, and the fact that it's still controversial is a perfect demonstration of why buying into this stuff is silly.
- There are indeed places where you could likely marry your duck. People have certainly married stranger things :)

Im sure bhvr is thinking "We'll release a new chapter in a few months and get back all those players"
