Survivor insults and harassment toward killer should be BANNED
It doesn't matter that you don't like tunneling, slugging, facecamping, proxycamping or bodyblocking. None of these valid strategies used by the killer gives you the right to wish cancer, send death threats, harass, or try to diminish someone self esteem.
These past days, I have been enjoying the following build with my nurse : BBQ, Pain resonance, No way Out, Noed. I have been playing so much Agitation / Starstruck in my nurse career I thought it was time to change my build. The strategy is simple : tunnel someone out and get no way out token to finish off the team in endgame if they are not dead before.
It is actually a good build and less stressful than Agitation / Starstruck because you don't need to keep track of as many variables but the amount of hate I received is unbearable to the point of affecting my mental health, for real. For example, yesterday the survivor team was so mad they insulted my mother (I suppose you can guess what they said about her), wished death to my grandmother (she is actually very sick, even if they have no idea you can imagine how it makes you feel), told me I was the garbage of society then they flood my steam profil with insults and tried to add me friend to send me disgusting pornographic images of male genitals. Yes, all of this because they felt rightful to do so.
When I point this hate to survivors, politely, they always find excuses :
- The game is -18 therefore it's OK to insult someone you are an adult and you can take it
- You were toxic first : I stoped counting how many times someone told me "gg wp" is toxic (it's the only thing I say in end chat)
- You deserve it because you used X or Y strategy
NOBODY DESERVES TO BE TREATED LIKE THAT. THEY ARE NO EXCUSES.
My suggestion to end this hatred is to educate survivors, please create commands in the end game chat such as !tunnel !slug !camp with an automatic message reminding these are valid strategies, and that hate speech / harassment is NOT allowed. I am seriously considering stoping playing DBD for good, I used to have so much fun playing after work and chill. Now I launch the game, stare at the main menu and quit immediately to avoid the odds of getting matched against this kind of survivors.
PS : Sorry for my bad english but I really hope BHVR will read this and address it.

The stuff that you said should be bannable offenses but what you’re missing in is that survivors and killers should be reported for it, not just survivors.
53 -
They are.
Report them.
16 -
When was the last time you saw someone in this game reported for saying such horrible things. I advice is just make your profile private and skip end chat
7 -
Never.
I don't keep tabs on every person i've reported to see if they've been banned or not. I report, move on and forget about them in 5 minutes.
18 -
Fair enough then
0 -
Harassment in general should be banned but they're very OK with it unless it attacks their personal character like race or sexuality
10 -
Yes, but this should apply to both survivors and killers not just one role
12 -
I wish they would add a setting to the settings menu to just disable end game chat - if it's disabled this way there isn't even a button to turn chat on at the end of the match, and remove the ability to change that same setting during game. You can decide to have it on or off before you get into a lobby.
Just so I can permanently delete the chat and forget it exists.

This. Exactly this.
The tribalistic double standards only breed more toxicity by witch-hunting a specific role for the same behavior the opposite role can have but goes unmentioned by OPs. And I'm not talking about this one OP in particular, but it's something that happens quite often on this forum.
Insults and harassment should be condemned and reported regardless of whatever role the player chooses to pick.
13 -
As if this only goes one way? Or only when killers are harassed is it a problem?
15 -
If you give the survivors props when they do that you can rest easy since giving props doesn't really do anything.

I can't relate because people are scared to do that on Playstation because Sony actually punishes them, surprisingly. It has really cleaned up my messages from all but the corniest mofos. In this game at least. Overwatch added the PC chat to console and you can type whatever you want there.
4 -
How hard does Sony punish? I've reported probably 200+ survivors for sending me hate-filled messages. Just tonight I had a guy tell me that he hopes I die and burn in hell because I stood around a slug while all 3 other survivors were hovering around, one with a flashlight
0 -
If you are on console you get communication banned pretty easily for harassing messages
2 -
No, I don't ever play survivor so I can't speak for the survivor experience. What I know, after 600h of playing killer is that survivors feel rightful to insult and harass the killer when he uses a certain strategy. Maybe killers are toxic too, for other reasons I don't know them but I invite you to share them on this thread if you think it's a common issue.
2 -
Survivors will insult, harass, and BM you no matter how you play. That's just a fact
It's one part survivor entitlement (devs have catered to the role since day 1), one part SWF mob mentality, and finally it's people that have literally nothing else going on for them in life except for their skill in DbD so they need to make sure you know how hard they owned you in the game. People that have fulfilling lives, relationships, and employment don't go out of their way to try to bully people on the internet
5 -
This already exists.

I reported teo people for such instances. One of them argued with me about the viability of tunneling, camping and that proxy camping from hook to hook wasn't patrolling. When I didn't concede to his POV he started throwing slurs about my perceived sexual orientation at me.
Another onehad actually a very good, yet sweaty, game against me, which I won, in the end. I said something "phew, that was an intense game", to which he said in some east European language, that I won't disclose here, that he wishes that my mother dies soon and that her funeral day should be made a national holiday. He also called me a shovel head.
I mean, if you have to throw around such insults, at least do it in English if you don't strongly suspect that the other speaks your language, what's the point otherwise?
But also, just don't. Wishing such horrible things on the other player or their loved ones is as low as it gets.
BTW, in case you don't know how to report: first in the endgame chat you can click next to the name on a button with a thumb up/down pictogram and report that player for grieving, language abuse, bad sportsmanship and exploiting. This alone is not much, but its very, very important (read mandatory), as this creates a ticket in BHVR system with the names and date of everyone involved.
Next make a Screenshot of the endgame chat. If you are using Steam this is F12. In epic or on console, I don't know.
After this go to this link
https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
And chose "additional player report information".
There you can write what happened, have to provide your very own player ID number, which is extremely long and can be found at the very bottom of the in-game configuration page, and also upload any screenshots you got of the incident. You will also ask if you already filed an in-game report.
This all takes quite some while and might feel a bit excessive / petty, BUT it's the only way how we can give the bad apples a stern reminder that their behavior is not cool. I don't expect that they will be banned, but I guess that even an email with some questions, and the knowledge that you are now reported, might influence a lot of this peeps to curb their lose mouths and behave a bit better.
4 -
I said nobody deserves to be treated that way in a video game, including survivors, I can't be more specific.
2 -
A shovel head? Now THAT is a step too far. Some people need to learn that words have consequences. You never know what is going on with the other side and to say something like that is just utterly disgusting.

I got called names yesterday by 2 people that ended up dying to me in haddonfun with boons.
They had to boost their own ego by calling me horrible names and saying they died because they wanted to not because i was just able to kill them.
Survivors you are going to die sometimes. I was fair killer in goddamn haddonfield with meta perks and boons, so stop being a child about it and accept that you just wont win every single time. I've accepted the fact that i will lose a lot due to maps and boons already.
I still try to play fair and all i get from it is bagging and insults. I might as well start tunneling you down. Let's be honest id probably 4k more often if i did.
1 -
On on playstation so that option isn't there.

I mean sure if you're gonna imply that general harassment is good for the community then please do go on. Tell me your thoughts
3 -
most of the harassment in this game boils down to playground insults and generic salt, targeting players for specific aspects of their identity goes beyond that and should be punished more heavily imo. obviously it shouldn't be exclusively focused on, harassment is harassment and anyone who participates in it can ######### right off. more than anything i'd like more transparency on what happens to people who get reported so we can actually know what bhvr does and doesn't act on.
0 -
So you must have people in your life that talk down to you every day right? Because that's normal... right?
4 -
what does this have to do with anything
0 -
Are people harassing you all of the time? Is that something we should normalize in life too? A little bit of social harassment is good for the skin?
Why would anyone try to rationalize such poor thinking...
7 -
right, because video games are just like real life and you have absolutely no tools whatsoever to stop seeing postgame chat or, god forbid, stop playing the game. i still don't understand what your point is or how it relates to your initial comment.

Right because there's any distinction at all between someone telling you you're trash in real life or a video game... yeah we can all agree that harassment is OK
6 -
See. A little bit of sheit talking at the end, that's ok, like with the old wrestling matches.
But a lot of the people there cross certain lines regularly. When I smash someone at a table tennis match, I might say "Fufufu eat dirt, dirtbag!" and maybe get a laugh out it, because that's what's expected and ok.
But insulting their mother, wishing harm on them for that one good ball they dealt me and cursing their family or insinuating that the death day of their mother should be a national holiday, THIS I would neither do nor allow to fly. Just imagine it in any normal setting.
Video games are not the real life, but behind every single screen sits a real, breathing, feeling person. A human being. And while in today's day and age a lot of people are over sensitive and got no skin whatsoever, this here isn't a snowflake issue. These people, who insult so freely, either lack boundaries in their lives, education to know how to behave or just plain are at that age were they think being that edgy is utmost cool.
No one here is talking about a perma-ban or something like that, but a 72h period to sober up wouldn't hurt most of this peeps.
3 -
i'm not saying people shouldn't be punished for harassment, of course they should. i want it to be clear how people are punished and whether the intensity of the harassment plays a role in that.
i don't know how you're getting "harassment is ok" from anything i'm saying but feel free to keep talking out of your ass.
1 -
What a strange thing to do by instigating that you're OK with harassment and then turning a new leaf after being confronted with a problem... crazy dynamic on these forums

False. I've had maybe 2-3 toxic killers but i cant even count how many survivors ive gotten.
Also if you check the forums there has been multiple topics about survivor mains demanding killers to let them have their fun. Play this way and do this and dont do this otherwise you kill OUR fun. How many killers have done this?
Survivors (not all of course) are entitled and when they lose they turn nasty. Even if they win they still think they are entitled to insult the killer for what? You won..move along.
Almost every game i have survivors wait at the exit gates to bag waste my time when they could easily just run. In a year ive maybe had 2 full slugger killers that have left us on the ground to bleed out to waste our time.

I don't mean the button after the game. I mean to delete that button entirely, so you can't even open chat after the game.

I'm not tryna be rude or incendiary but I genuinely believe that calling someone trash in real life should offer no consequences because that's not harrassment haha. If you used a slur or make repeated attempts to aggressively intimidate someone (which is what real harassment is, not a one off insult) then I'd be singing the same tune as you. But I think it's actually counter-productive for these kinds of discussions to flat out refuse to acknowledge that not every unsavoury online interaction, or display of bad sportsmanship comes under the definition of harassment. People throw this word around way too much and it really muddies what actually constitutes abuse and harassment
1 -
They take it seriously but be sure to report every offensive message (or a word) individually because it is even more effective.
You can even abuse their automated system if you are smart (and maybe a little bit mean) about it since they don't look at the context. For example "kill" even when meant like in game kill is considered offensive.
You can even get your "friends" banned if you had long chats just by reporting words that are seen as offensive even when they are not meant for insults. Probably even perma banned lol.
Always be careful who are you chatting to and the words you type when on ps. I learned my lesson once and I also learned to take advantage of it to get rude people banned. I can play dirty too.
1 -
So you would be OK with someone being negative to you every day of your life. That's good information...
3 -
They don't ban hackers so they certainly won't ban griefers.
2 -
Just don't type "gg wp" in the game chat. Take your win and move on in silence.
The chat feature should be disabled altogether. If people want to connect, there are friend requests.
6 -
I'd actually be all for a wrestling-style smacktalk, because in some ways being comical like that lightens the mood for both people. An example would be when I got a 1k as Nurse and one person messaged with "ggez" and I replied "Yeah? Well, if it wasn't for the sheet wrapped around my head you would have been killed. Playing blind is hardmode buddy!". Got a laugh from them out of that.
I know that's not the same as harrassment obviously, and all forms of abuse or harrassment should be dealt with. But if people really were annoyed, my advice is if you somehow have to message about it, make it comical and light-hearted, and focus more on joking about yourself as much as others. It eases the stress, and ultimately it does make you realise that at the end of the day you're both 2 peeps playing a game. Being Mori'd is not like having your family name slurred.
1 -
Sad to hear this. Yes, your build is pretty intense and I would feel very frustrated to face it especially if you single me out as your tunnel target. This can feel bad as a survivor as you have very little chance against a good Nurse player. Sure, frustating.
However this is no reason to allow any of which you just mentioned. Death thread and other stuff is no joke and there is no justification.
Please not however that you have 2 issues at hand here: The ingame-chat is BHVR problem. They have to do something about this and ban the players who send you those "kind" words.
Your steam profile however is on Steams side. This is nothing BHVR can influence. You have to report those cases to Steam to get something done about this.
I hope they get what they deserve for this...
And by the way thx for the build idea...I will try that too...
I tend to do things like that too. A bit trashtalk is fine but it never crosses a personal line or includes and insults to family or something like that. "Next time bring a tent", "Weaklings die, big deal", "Chainsaw goes brr..."...I was having plenty of that. Most times this is fun.

The devs consider it a good thing to have players at each others throats and extremely hostile to each other. They probably simultaneously wonder why they also have a community that is known to DOX, DDOS, and SWAT people.
6 -
People try to rationalize it because they themselves do it, and that is my genuine belief. So it's a way to rid the psyche of guilt or feelings of wrong doing by reinforcing to ones self that is is "good" and "normal." The people who defend it are probably trying to convince themselves more so than others.
4 -
Thanks for the feedback. I never say anything to these people that are hostile. I always just say "gg wp!" over and over. That either eggs them on to put more reportable material in the chat or they just give up and go away when you don't give them a reaction
