I'm back to ash because I didnt play for long.
I was red ranks
Now I thought I could chill and try some builds and killers well I cant now.
One game I get 4 ash players, next game its a full stack of iri players
How tf does the mmr system work? I dont get it. Its garbage. I need to tryhard every game now?

It's the exact same as the old system, it's just hidden. It doesn't measure skill at all

The ranking system has been abolished, so instead it's changed to a monthly grading system. This resets to Ash every month and is not indicative of the skill of a player, but moreso how often someone plays.
The MMR is now hidden and is based on whether you escape or die/ how many kills.
Because the MMR doesn't currently decay over time of non-use, you're probably being thrown at the deep end, depending on how good you were before. The devs are looking into this issue.
That's the objective view of it. No doubt you'll read many more subjective views as it goes along, but that's as basic and factual as I can make it.

Wdym? Before I was playing against people close my rank. Now one game can be 4 ash noobs and next game its a stack of 4 iri players. I can't even test killers or builds now, I have to tryhard as if I was red ranks already.

Your grade has nothing to do with skill.
Your "skill rating" is a hidden number now. Does it mean much? Not really, no.

Yes exactly; thats my point. You can't know how skilled the players you will face will be, and thats #########.

Thats completely wrong explained.
The rank system in before was based on a upranking skill system: emblems resulting in rank. Now the matchmaking is purely kill/escape related and isnt shown at all. the grades are now the old system, but arent used for matchmaking at all.

Well before you would barely be put with people your rank, remember the constant rainbow lobbies?
To the second question to put it simply MMR doesn't actually account for "skill" it only takes kills or survives into account. It also doesn't take team play into account either since a survivor doesn't gain mmr if they die running the killer to allow the rest of their team to escape making it 4 1v1's with the killer and each survivor. One last thing is that there is an MMR soft cap in which matchmaking will atop caring how high above the soft cap you are you will still be placed at the soft cap (Example: the softcap is 1800 you and you have 2500 MMR, the system won't care how much higher above 1800 you are and will consider you at the soft cap.)
It also heavily prioritizes speed over accuracy meaning someone with 2k hours can still in some cases be placed against someone who literally just booted the game for the first time.
tl:dr- doesn't accurately measure skill, and prioritizes speed over accuracy.

Why do you have to play any differently depending on who your opponents are? Just play normally, use the loadout you want, and if you lose no big deal, it’ll just lower your rating and increase the chances you get an easier matchup for that loadout next time.

It’s not impossible to play however you want against high skill players if you want to play differently, you just might lose if you’re not playing optimally. It sounds like what you want is to be able to win but not have to work for it,
