Defending the Hook
A littler while ago I'd posted a thread about asking when it was ok to camp.
I don't care any more, I'll camp when I damned well please. Because survivors are ruining the game for me.
Several times now, I've played matches where the moment I hook someone, do the other survivors work on gens? No. They SWARM the hook to try and save the victim. And they usually do. Once in awhile I can interrupt them, throw them on my shoulder, then either walk to a nearby hook or drop them on the ground. More often then not, however, it turns into a strike instead, and EVERYONE escapes.
They have no fear. This doesn't feel like a game fighting a killer when in matches like this, because it feels like you have to defend that damned hook and the survivors have zero fear of you. Because most of the time, when operating like this, they manage to save the survivor AND everyone gets away, maybe with a hit or two spread between them.
One match, in the asylum, I literally had someone drop FROM THE SECOND FLOOR right in front of me as I was chasing a survivor that I'd already hooked once, they were falling like god damned apples from trees, coming from around corners, crouching in between me and windows when trying to vault.
that match, I got a 3k... but it didnt feel like one. I was exhausted, irritated, and just downright did not have a good time. I've had other matches since then, where sometimes they all escape even when I was camping a hook just because of these damned tactics. Just played a match where every survivor escaped after I face camped a hook because they were doing this. My face camping didnt stop them.
What's worse, you lose points for spending too much time around hooks; not a lot maybe, but a little, so it even hurts you too.
And I wonder, is there any way to defend against this? other than run Leatherface or maybe the trapper in some cases? Because this is getting frustrating. It's ruining my fun of the game as a killer. These guys do not fear the killer at all, and that just doesn't seem right.
Luckily not all matches are like this, but they seem to be becoming more and more common.

I've honestly just had the same experience, you don't even feel the slightest bit of control because in your mind you know they're gonna get the person, so at that point it's damage control and collateral. I know the feeling....0

Were you defending the hook at the endgame mark? I would say if you're having issues with pulling someone off and getting striked, maybe drop them on the ground. You can see if they're obsession that way and it would allow you to better protect your hook if more were to foolishly swarm. It's also not against the rules to dribble if the have DS!
Do you play survivor often? I would suggest if you don't to try to play both equally. It'll help you to understand stuff from their perspective and better counter the stuff they do. You can also see from first hand in ways what they're doing fails 'cause I'll say when people swarm like that, it's basically game over in most of the games I play. Fear is only an aspect of the game and really over present when faced with something survivors aren't aware of or when good pressure is applied. You get a lot of fear from newbies as they still haven't played the game enough and less from older players as they often know how to play around with the killer's vision. I don't usually have an issue with someone blocking me and if they do, they're putting themselves at a disadvantage if I choose to chase them. I can understand how facing people like that can be tiring, though.
If you're facecamping a hook and manage to smack someone as they took the person off, try to smack them again. Often when they do plays like this, it's because of BT. I don't think you lose any points from hanging around the hooks. I believe you don't get much by camping, though, but if they're all swarming that would mean none are on a gen (unless it's endgame, then clearly xD) and that would mean hanging around the hook is relatively safe.
To learn how to better counter survivors, you can watch YouTubers who know what they're doing and give good tips. I personally like TrU3 and OhTofu when it comes to tips. OhTofu has a how to series and also does critiques on viewers. Puppers is also quite good along with a few others.

What killer do you play?I play several, but not all. What I've been playing up to now is: Trapper, Wraith, Huntress, and recently added Clown and Spirit. I've played a little Hillbilly and Leatherface, but I really dont like them much (although granted I bet leatherface would change up these scenarios, but I just dont like either of them all that much)

That survivors off gens mate, you should be happy that they're wasting their time by swarming the hook.2

I had to buy Leatherface just for this reason, As soon as I was far enough away the person would be rescued. At least now If I see an Aura on BBQ I'll know where to go and if I don't I just assume they're waiting nearby to get the safe save and I'll patrol the area since more often than not that's the case.
I'd never face camp but if you don't see any auras you kind of are forced to patrol the area, It's the logical thing to do. Don't feel bad for 'Camping' in this sense, If you were to leave every hook immediately every time, you'd be willingly going against the goal of the killer.

So I know this feeling and it hurts, I don't like camping, it makes me feel uncomfortable but I do patrol to see if anyone is nearby. I usually run BBQ or Devour to incentivize me to walk away from the hook and get rewarded, though sometimes the Survivors are like yours and you can't leave quick enough to get out of range.
I use those altruistic Survivors against them, if they start swarming the hooks, SLUG them. Don't hook them just SLUG 'em. Punish them for being greedy and stupid, Leatherface is great for this of course because of the snowball potential.
I think you'd get a kick out of Basement builds man I really do. Use Leatherface, Trapper, or Hag and only put people in the Basement. Their Altruism will be their undoing, use Insidious if you're having a really bad day. Start the match by running directly to the Basement and wait there the entire match, usually someone will eventually go down there for that sweet alluring chest and when they do you scream like a madman and swing that saw around and wait for the ensuing swarm of idiots.

Survivors are more brazen when they cant be insta-downed. If you can get "Make your choice" it will give you incentive not to camp, and make them a bit more wary of hook rushing. Also, just keep swinging, you'll wound a few, maybe even down one, but get into the habit of slugging people and not just hooking them all the time. Let them crawl around and act as bait for others, slug the helpers too. Its fun, trust me.
I have a rhythm I use that works out fine:
Slug 1,
Hook 1,
Slug 1,
Hook1 ...It slows the game down and you will see the piss taken out of your survivors pretty quick this way.

So I've heard of basement builds, but I dont know anything about them. What is it, agitation and iron grip to get them down there, and insidious to lure others down there too?

Depends who and how you want to play. I like using Territorial Imperitive, Make Your Choice(this perks helps with judging the distance for Territitorial), Iron Grasp, and Agitation. This you can use on anyone. You can switch MYC with Mad Grit to help when Survivors know what you're doing and try to body block.
When I do Leatherface I bring in Bloodwarden to know when the exits are open, Bitter Murmur to see them, BBQ & Chili for points, and Insidious to wait in the Basement without them knowing. These are my Basement perks but Monto on Youtube has Trapper's Basement, Bubba's(Leatherface) Basement, Pogo's(Clown) Basement, and he has actual builds relating to those characters and they are deadly. Hag also has a good Basement game but I haven't quite gotten it down yet.

Camping is ok is it’s strategically beneficial, if not, it isn’t ok. Pure logic.
