Friday the 13th
Recently went on sell on Xbox so I decided to pick it back up, and forgot how much I enjoyed it. It also made me think about why I enjoyed it so much and the major differences. I do have a few hundred hours on it previously from stream. Keep in mind, This isn't a conversation about which is better or more balanced or anything like that. But there are some things that the 13th game has that I kinda wish DBD had.
1. The aesthetic: I love the aesthetic in the 13th. It's dark, it's atmospheric, and it feels like an asymmetrical horror game. The look and graphics look nicer to me, and the game as a whole keeps the horror element with a bit of funny splashed in, not unlike the movies. The animations feel more realistic, for the most part, but still give a bit of randomness in movements. Overall it feels like a slasher horror movie, something I wish DBD would have.
2. Tracking: The different ways of tracking between Jason and the counselors feels so much better, and I prefer it over DBDs tbh. I like that you can track survivors easier as their fear goes up, and you get a general direction of where they are with small notifications. And vice versa if you're a counselor, you get horror music if you're in chase or too close to Jason. There's not a bunch of glaring red scratch marks, or a giant red stain and constant heartbeat terror radius letting you know where the killer is at all times and breaks the immersion. But at the same time, you can't just crouch in a bush and be hidden the entire match. It really works in keeping the horror atmosphere alive and constant even when you've played hundreds of hours. Yes you're not really scared after hundreds of hours, but it still feels like you're playing a horror game and not just a party game.
3. Power: Friday the 13th does an excellent job of making you, the killer, feel powerful at all times. Even when you're going against bully squads, you don't feel helpless. You can literally get shot in the face and you just get back up and walk it off. Counselors escaping in a car? You can stand in front of it and literally crush it, then drag them out of it. You can literally kill them at any point in time, and have plenty of tools to do so.
And vice versa, you don't feel completely helpless as a counselor. Although the threat of permanent death is always there, there's also many things to help keep you from dying. You have health items, temporary stun items for when you're grabbed, and even weapons to fight back and even potentially kill Jason. Which brings me to the next thing.
4. Mechanics: There's so many different ways for counselors to escape, and so many things to interact with, you're always doing something. Friday the 13th does a very good job at keeping you in the game and immersed. You're not just holding m1 on a gen, or chest, or totem, or to heal someone, and then holding W away from the killer. Overall I think it offers more diverse gameplay that makes each match feel unique.
5. Mori and death animations: Each one is unique and brutal in it's own right. Nothing more to say, they just did it better.
6. Bots: It's really not that hard Behavior. They don't even have to be great bots lol
With that said, Friday the 13th while it does feel nice to play, can get repetitive, and I think I know why. I think what keeps me coming back to DBD is literally just the roster. The diverse characters both licensed and non licensed, and their uniqueness. Like if DBD didn't have it's roster, and only had say the trapper, but kept all the same gameplay, I'd never touch it. Or if Friday the 13th had the diverse roster that DBD has but it's current mechanics, I'd only play that game.
Idk maybe they could borrow a few things 😂

Same. I'm having fun just playing bots and challenges right now.

The only big problem with it was voice chat imo and teaming with Jason.
I am really looking forward to their new game. And it is our boy Bubba now.

Yeah I wish they would just do a non licensed title with original characters, then have licenses killers added in. They already have the gameplay, just need the diversity.

F13th is/was a nice game. A lot of fun, way more than DbD. I met a lot new good ppl via the in-game voice chat.
Pretty nice moments.

It’s very sad that the lawsuit killed the game so early. The game was amazing. Hate to say it dbds only big competitor. But the lawsuit murdered them. Hopefully The leatherface game is just as good

I really miss the music, every Jason had their own unique music which brought a different atmosphere, whereas in DBD a lot of the killers just have the same Entity Brain terror radius.

You felt powerful as Jason until a Vanessa squad showed up. Then you realised all the games issues. Still loved it though
