Why is Lightburn Still A Thing?
By the numbers, especially factoring in his power versus newbies and how much this offsets kill stats, Wraith is really struggling right now.
Have been watching some high MMR Wraith gameplay recently, and two things I've noticed:
- COH hard counters him. A recent game with Otz saw a duo literally outhealing him mid chase with a bit of body blocking.
- A single survivor with a flashlight that knows what they are doing is almost impossible for him to work around. The second he approaches, lightburn.
Lightburn as a whole feels like an outdated idea, designed to offset the power of a killer that isn't at all powerful anymore.

Not that bad honestly, if you get burned that often as wraith you need to change up how you play cause it's super easy to counter.

If lightborn protected against lightburn, I would always equip it on Wraith. But since it's useless for Wraith, I just dodge every lobby with flashlights.

I like the Lightburn mechanic, I find it interesting. I can use flashlights to burn Wraiths and, well, Nurses. I haven't burned a Nurse yet tho but one day, I will burn The Nurse lmao

Because wraith has an easy to use, unlimited no "charge", no "cooldown" speed stealth combo.
Although he's awful in high MMR and outright countered by coh, lightburn is a mechanic that keeps his easy power in check.

As a beginner character that's mechanically easy to pick up and immediately available to anyone who plays the tutorial, Wraith does need a counter like that to keep his power in check, and it serves as a nice incentive to try and play a little more sneaky instead of running straight at people and uncloaking in their face.
Wraith is struggling, but Lightburn isn't why.

literally the only time i get any value from flashbang, please dont change :(

While I like the idea of unique interactions between Killer powers and Survivor items, the idea was obviously discontinued.
Lightburn doesn't really hurt Nurse at all (except for baby Nurse's and they don't need another thing to worry about) and it really does hurt Wraith.
So while I don't actively advocate for its removal, I do think it's an outdated mechanic from when the game was more hide-and-seek.

Was it obviously discontinued, when you can Lightburn Artist's power?

Can you really?

Yes, you can disable crows with a flashlight. The score event is even "Crow Burn".

I've honestly never seen that happen.
Huh. I stand corrected and I will change my argument when it's not 5 AM for me. I do think Wraith's burn is unnecessarily harsh, considering the strength of his power.
Also, don't burn the crow :( that's so mean

Light burn is fine on nurse and hag but on wraith it is kinda busted

I like the concept of it interacting with his power but yeah, wraith has enough going against him. Maybe if it knocked him out of stealth immediately without the stun, so didnt impact his chase power much but still had a unique interaction

i like flashlights having different interactions depending on the killer, it adds an extra layer of variety on top of playing a different killer each game. i don't think lightburn needs to go away, but i always found it weird that lightburning a wraith is a 3 second stun, but lightburning a nurse is only 2 seconds. they should probably be the same burn time, or the other way around because lightburning a nurse is much harder than burning a wraith.

You can burn the Artist's Crows. So nope, not outdated.
Not that anything is, really. This word has no place around these parts.

Am I the only person that's never had a problem with Lightburn? You stop uncloaking and move in erratic swirly patterns. I've never met anyone who was able to keep the beam on me (or any Wraith I've played against), and survivors don't gain any ground while they're flashlighting so it's just a big pause button on the chase. If survivors drop a flashbang, pull back or zoom ahead and reposition once it goes off.
I guess it'd be an issue if a survivor was smart and only ever used the flashlight when he started to uncloak, stopped using it as soon as Wraith got cheeky, and had a big juiced up beamer or even BTL to back it up, but I haven't encountered that... knock on wood.
I agree that Wraith doesn't need any more going against him, but I've always ranked Lightburn pretty low on Wraith's list of problems.
The crow actually looks down and opens its beak while you're burning it! Crow no like :(

When I left there were tons of threads saying Wraith was OP and needed changes after his buff, and at the same time other threads saying that he was finally viable at high ranks and needed no changes
I come back and now the discussion is back to where it used to be

If you have a hasty decloak add on the survivor has to spot you before you start the decloak for it to work. I almost always have fast decloak when I'm not running the silencer on him.

No charge
He has to cloak, which takes time
No cooldown.
He has to cloak, then uncloak, both of which have charge bars, before he can even get the attack speed buff.

Just out of curiosity which numbers are you referring to? The devs only officially released the overall averages and Wraith was 53% in that. I saw one post from one high skill survivor who had about a 66% or so escape rate against Wraith over 30 matches but that’s about it.

While I think that Lightburn should be removed, it is not that bad against Wraith.
As long as you are circling the Survivor who tries to burn you, you will be fine as Wraith. Wraith is fast enough when cloaked to avoid the Beam and the Survivor will most likely just get injured while trying to burn the Wraith.

I'm aware of the cloak uncloak. Hence the quotation marks. There is still no cooldown on using his power nor is there a limit to how long he can use it.
But we should take that away too right? Along with lightburn?

So his power does not have cooldown, except for the cloak/uncloak wind-up times that qualify as cooldown. Except they don't for you because you put them in quotes to gloss over this fact?
