Why small hotfix patches takes so long to download?
I have very fast internet btw and yet it feels like you are downloading whole game again instead of small patch.
Anyone knows why? I never saw any other game with such slow updates to download.

From my experience "Downloading" phase takes seconds
But "Updating", after download, like 10-15 minutes
This is how it looks on steam:

Its because Steam has to patch the entire game regardless of how big the update is, so a 100mb update still has to access 50gb of data. DBD and Payday 2 are the only games I know that do this, maybe its just a Starbreeze thing?

Steam changed how they display the update process. Instead of having the update at 100% while it patches the game now shows the patching progress bar.
Its dependent on your storage speed. HDD will take a long time, some SSD will be faster depending on the specs, and SSD NVMe will be the fastest.

what does starbreeze have to do with dbd?

They were the original publisher until BHVR bought the publishing rights back.

What platform are you on?? I’m on XB1 and mine only took around 20 mins.

Steam, PC.

I asked a few patches back on reddit. From what people who understand this stuff better than me said; general incompetence and poor decision making in the structure of the game, meaning 100MB of patch are split over tens of gigs of compressed files or something that all need to be overridden or verified or whatever.
It is absolutely an issue caused by BHVR, literally any other game you watch update on steam can do updates of this size in seconds, it's only DBD that wants to rewrite 90% of the game weekly.

Its a trade off between larger downloads vs longer patching.
The game could be like other titles and have massive patches, but then you will have those that have slower internet complaining.

Moving your game install to a fast disk helps tremendously.
I moved mine to an M.2 drive and get 400MB/s disk activity. Verifying the game takes maybe 1 minute.

You don't have fast internet, sorry Sir.

Because their coding sucks. I'm sorry I'm not a programmer so i will explain as i understood . My friend explained it as they overwrite entire game instead of updating it in sections as every other game does. That's why instead of updating game in 30sec u wait each time for 30min for game to be completely rewrited.

Yesterday i downloaded a 7.1 gb patch for vermintide 2 faster than a 300 mb patch for dbd.........?

It's dreadfully slow on most platforms. However, it's blazing fast on the PS5.

No, it's DbD. On PS4 the latest patch was just under a gig. I had it downloaded in less than 2 minutes. It's about half done copying after about 10 minutes. No other game has this issue for me.

Since this is the third thread I've seen of this nature, I've decided to post this.
roughly 2 minutes to install this patch. It's based on your storage device write and read speeds.

Yeah this has happened during the last few updates which is ridiculous, small update for a boring event, feels like I have to redownload the whole game every time

Read the patcg notes and dev update for an explanation

This patch downloaded super fast for me compared to the last couple updates. Usually takes an hour with my ######### pc
