The grind is getting out of hand...
Like I understand y'all don't want to remove perk tiers because y'all want a more "permanent" solution. But why do we have to wait yeaaarrrrssssss for something so freaking basic. I'll give a very simple example.
I have a killer that had 75 tier 3 perks, no tier one or tier two, and I got the 2 million BP for reset. I figured, hey, now's the perfect time to put those points into that character to see exactly how long it'll take to get the rest and unlocked to tier 3. A little more than 2 million BP later, being as cost efficient as possible with my bloodwebs, and I still don't have all 90 perks unlocked! Let alone to tier 3. Want to know how many games I'd have to play perfectly just to get that many bp again? And this is if I'm running BBQ and get the max bp every single game, 32 games. Just to get 2 million bp, and that barely puts a dent in a single character.
You'd need to play about 80 matches getting max bp with both bbq and chili and survivor pudding, just to get all perks on a single character one time.
Yeah removing perk tiers might not be a permanent solution, but it'd be a lot better than having to deal with this BS while y'all sit on your hands for the next 2 years.

Edit: nvm. I thought you were prestiging.

I think they are a bit disconnected on this issue. They hear the criticism, but they do not seem to understand just how bad it is.

It's definitely bad for new players. Older players typically have huge warchests since the amount of BP handed out during some of the events is insane. Especially the anniversary ones. I have hundreds of cakes left on some killers. Those 4-5 cake and 3-4 stacks of BBQ/WGLF games are how I did most of my prestiging since you could be getting like 300k+ a game.

I feel like the bloodweb needs to be scrapped entirely, just let us buy perks and addons directly. Make the higher rarity ones cost more BP, like say 20k for an iri killer addon or something. Make the farming addons free.
4 -
Lol... Buys the same 4 perks for every killer and finishes in 1 day.

The devs need to do something to make the grind less painful, gonna keep getting worse with more DLCS.
1 -
They should double or triple BP gains until they implement said "permanent solution", right now is insane especially for Killers, at least Survivors as long as you have one of them with all perks you are golden but Killers are extremely perk dependant, you want to play Myers and M&A doesnt show? tough luck pal.
2 -
The grind is totally fine.
Maybe the Devs should sell BP paket for Auric Cells, if so many people have a problem with the grind they can buy BP.
1 -
Because most devs barely or never played Dead by Daylight lmfao
4 -
Worst god damn solution ever.
19 -
You don't need a solution if there is no problem.
1 -
BHVR have said they are working on a better permanent solution that makes, the grind, the prestige system.
How about we wait and see what they come up with?
0 -
They have form for saying things that are getting fixed and they never do. So I think OP is fair
4 -
It's at the point where I used to just buy every DLC with real money and now I use shards months after the killer releases and often don't buy the licensed killers at all, simply because I know I'm not going to grind them enough to make them actually usable.
The solution is rather obvious: get rid of completely worthless perk tiers, cutting the grind by 2/3. They add nothing of value to the game. Prestige system should be thrown out too. It was never a good system.
1 -
You have to remember that BHVR HQ sits inside of a very high gravity area. Gravity so high that it dilates space time. 30 minutes for them is about 5 years out here. It's why it took so long to change Iri Head. Very simple fix, but time works differently. I'm sure they identified the issue with the grind right around launch and they've been working on it for a couple hours in BHVR time. So it'll be ready in another 3 years.
6 -
My dude if you're going to bait Don't make it obvious lmao
2 -
We all know what it means when they say they are working on something....
Maybe they haven't even started...
4 -
It could also easily be the opposite approach. MMOs, for example, intentionally make crafting long and time consuming to increase how long you spend in-game.

To be fair the "grind" is kind of in your head, there's no particular reason you need level 3 on every perk for instance let alone need every perk unlocked on a given killer, let alone trying to unlock every perk on every killer. If you're more content to play with the perks the web gives you then you're not spending millions on bloodpoints chasing that "catch em all" dream.
Not that I'm against them making it easier for people to get specific perks or add-ons they want. I'm just saying you'll only see it as a grind if you see your main objective as unlocking literally everything when you don't actually need to do that.
0 -
Yeah thats all well and good until it takes you 50+ bloodwebs per killer to even see perks you want. Some killers vary from good to absolute garbage without certain perks/addons as a minimum. If everyone's basekit was better and there was more viable variety to killer builds, it wouldn't be as bad as it is.
Its still bad for survivor as well, but getting characters with perks you want to 30-40 and then dogpiling everything onto a single survivor is absurdly easier. Especially if you're skipping unlocking bad perks along the way.
2 -
Not that I'm against them making it easier for people to get specific perks
IMO, given how long it's been, they shouldn't alter it too far at this point. It'll just frustrate those of us who did spend the time on the grind all these years. Like, directly buying specific perks for like 150k (or another large ish sum) wouldn't be unreasonable. If you're so dead set on unlocking Mad Grit that you spend 50 games and don't see it, then yeah sure just buy it. You'll have 150k by then.

It's amusing to me to see anyone defend the grind. Makes me think some people will defend anything just to be contrarian.
9 -
What a loaded comment. Anyone commenting on this is automagically contrarian now.
tbh though they shouldn't remove the grind. They should base the price of just buying perks outright after you unlock them on how long the grind should be, imo, but I can see the complaint of a new player coming into it and noping out. As long as it's not pay to win and there's still a grind that should be pretty reasonable.
[edit] reworded some stuff to be less #########-key
1 -
Yes I think anyone defending the grind is absolutely contrarian or very very uninformed of things, as there is no actual good reason to have a grind system worse than F2P Gacha games.
5 -
I can live with this very very uninformed opinion of things.

Work cited: crack pipe

I think they have an inside guideline that the heavy grind keeps people playing the game, I mean more grind = more time playing the game = people spending more money on the game 😕

It's not really about removing the grind. SOME grind is good to create a sense of progression.
But DbD's grind feels very tedious. Especially when you consider that not only does it take a decent chunk of BP to get a character to Level 50 (let alone P3-50), but it also eats up a ton of time while you sit there and click on bloodweb nodes. And then there are 54 other characters to repeat the process on.
Even if the Devs don't want to remove perk tiers, I sincerely hope they'll at least consider making teachable perks significantly more accessible for new players (especially considering that quite a few teachables seem to have been targeted at less experienced players).
I have several friends who aren't willing to "get into" DbD because it takes a pretty big time investment just to get some of the fun perks all together on one character. And I understand where they're coming from; if I was just entering the Fog today, I don't think I would have stuck with the game as long as I have (due to being overwhelmed by the daunting grind).
1 -
Yes the problem would get as bad as it is now eventually if they removed perk tiers, but that would be years in the future which we're not even thinking if the game is gonna survive that long right now.
1 -
They defenetly know how bad it is they just dont care
4 -
Sounds amazing, ngl

They just need to add the chance to find tier 3 or 2 perks in the web without having thr tier 1 that would reduce the grind very much.
0 -
And this is why I take more monthly breaks. Even if sadako is S+ tier out the box I'll be skipping her for the time being.
Horizon and Elden ring are coming soon out so I know what I'll be playing next month.

Removing perk tiers was suggested many times, but is ignored by the devs.
Here is my recent thread with some dev replies in it + my counter arguments.

Example of something that never gets fixed?
0 -
I'm at 5k+ hours and I'm still grinding... like what the #########?
0 -
Just a genuine question, well 2 actually.
How long have you been playing this game?
And my second question, what side do you play mostly?
0 -
I believe this aswell, getting an easy bandaid fix for the grind until they put something else is easy they already have the code for double/triple BP, they just need to make it permanent, if they dont do it its because they dont really care at all, which is absurd im willing to bet the grind is one of the main aspects that throw away newcomers.

I have +2000 hours on DbD and i have not everything. Survivors are okey, i can play with one survivor but my all killers have not all perks. Yeah grind is pretty stupid and outdated.
Killers are more than skins, they have different powers and gameplays. And if you have not good perks on them, you can not play them against good survivors.

Removing perk tiers is not that easy. Perk tiers are tied with all the perks in the game and what they do. Synergize, cooldows etc. So they have to do a complete overhaul.
My suggestion is to reduce item/offering/add on BP prices, retire some completely useless cheap or expensive offerings such the purple Murky Reagent (6k bps), purple Shroud of Binding (6k bps) and more.
Just do something to make us save +20k bps per each bloodweb than the current one.

I always dream of the idea of removing perk tiers and replacing it with a more interesting kind of grind that rewards you with special skins and show how much time you spend with a character (e.g get a golden blight weapon for hitting 1000 rushes,a golden flashlight skin for getting 1000 flashlight saves etc.)
0 -
They used this idea on Bubba and then masks removed. Sigh.
0 -
Why would it be difficult?
1) Devs update the bloodweb to show perks on tier 3 regardless if you bought the lower tiers.
2) Devs update the player database so that everyone who has a perk will now have it on tier 3.
Reducing addon prices doesn't make sense, because then you could just always run the best addons, nobody would use the lower tier addons.

Removing perk tiers would be a solution for the next 10 years. Before they reached the current amount of bloodpoints required to max everything out. So i don´t really see why they won´t implement it.

According to steam i played 7200 hours, in reality more like 2500 hours.
At the beginning i played only killer and now its 50/50.
When i play DBD for a day and no other games i get 2-3 million BP, so it does not take very long to get all perks unlocked and to lvl. 3.

Created a video summary on this.

Ok this i find hard to believe unless you play from early to really late and nothing else.
Let's say you get 2 mil on 1 day.
This means you need to get perfect score every single match (no extra bp offerings) and do that 63 times.
So that is pretty hard to believe, even with extra BP offerings you still need a lot of games.
My other point is that you play a lot and thus can unlock more than someone who doesn't have as much free time as you, or even new players will take forever to get all perks unlocked.
So don't get me wrong, but you just showed to yourself that the grind isn't fine as you claimed.
When you played from the beginning or you play a stupid amount of time, than you can grind easily.
Especially when you started playing 5 years ago, then there weren't that much chapters yet and so you could get every perk pretty easily.
But if a new player starts playing today, then they are busy for at least 1 year minimum to get the perks that are in the game at this moment in time.
0 -
Of course it takes a while to unlock all perks if you can play only 1 or 2 hours per day.
But i played other games where i needed to play 2 weeks to unlock something, knowing that the grind in DBD is not that bad.

Some people, who have a never-ending amount of free time, think that doing and defending a broken grind makes them some kind of special. It gives them some misguided sense of accomplishment they think other people view as an achievement but really everyone who is not like them, the majority, just thinks they are wasting time on a broken system.

Either you are trying to troll or you actually have no clue about the grind.
I already know we will never agree on this subject so I'd say we agree to disagree
