Why can boons go through floors?
Why.
It isn't even a CoH-specific problem either, it's just pretty stupid in general that I have to travel for 30 seconds as killer to stomp a totem.
Doesn't matter anyway because the mikaela will be back booning it in 14 seconds anyway, so that time is pretty much wasted.
And yes I am making this thread because I got eyire and ironworks with a mikaela butt ######### the upstairs totem.

Because boons in general was a bad idea with no real thought put onto it.

Because the entire system was overall a flop and feels rushed. COH is overpowered, exponential and dark theory are bad, and only shadow step is somewhere in the middle (but is often a waste of time nonetheless). The way the system is, individual boon perks cannot be that good or they will be broken as long as they can be infinitely relit.
I'm mostly satisfied with the new scourge hook mechanic (although gift of pain is too weak), but for boons it really feels like they just wanted to make a totem mechanic for survivors and brute-forced it in without really considering how it would play out in actual matches (in other words, it looks okay on paper, but in practice it sucks). I almost guarantee you that if COH didn't exist almost nobody would be bothering with any of these perks.

Gotta disagree with exponential and dark theory being weak but agree with everything else.
Have you tried exponential in a flashlight squad? Its amazing.

Abusable and strong is different things, old boil over is abusable but not strong.

I'd say I've used exponential around 15 or so times in matches with my friends. In one of them we got a ton of value from it because the killer kept trying to mass slug and iirc there were a couple flashlight saves as well.
In the other 14, it did absolutely nothing and was a waste of a perk slot. We weren't all using flashlights every game though.

COH, shouldn't be able to cross floors
but every other boon perk should be able to. cause there weak. they dont need to be weaker

This is same for Terror Radius, Startruck and all area perks. They are ignoring floors. I think because BHVR can not code it or maybe they don't care.

Hmm good point

I suspect it's because of engine limitations. The floor would have to be registered as an entity specifically for boons to be stopped by. They can't do a simple height or collision check, since that'd break them entirely.

I just imagined a Boon Totem drop through the ground

Because I said so!

That would be really messy, mechanically speaking. Boons emit a cone in which all equipped boon perks are in effect. If one perk behaves differently, then the whole system gets weird. It's gotta be an all-or-none kind of change.

Now that you mention it, boons are the one area effect that shouldn't go trough floors.
Expecting the killer to move to the top floor to snuff a boon helping everybody one floor down is insane. Only the Nurse can do it with a relatively minor penalty.

They would be useless on vertical maps without going through the floor. They would rather have them be broken in favor of survivors than against them for obvious reasons.

God forbid if the totem spawns don't favor the survivor.
Boons should work even if it's somewhere upstairs where it would take 8-16s or so to reach as a non-killswitched killer.
