What is stopping killers from looking for a good 3-gen, and patrolling it from the start of the game

What is to stop this strategy?

As soon as match starts, killer looks for a good 3 gen, that means 3 generators that are close by together and easy to patrol. The killer brings perks specifically for this. Now, the killer just has to camp those 3 gens, and he doesn't care if the survivors do all the others. When there is 1 gen remaining, they MUST come to the 3 gen to do the final one, or no one is leaving.

And that is when the killer starts beating on everyone, hooking where he can, and just patrolling the 3 gen and wins.

This is why i don't understand content creators raging at survivors for "causing the 3 gen" It's obvious the killer was playing for the 3 gen from the start but because the random got fed up and completed the free uncontested gen, the streamer blames it all on them for the situation.

Some killers do this since 2016, especially trappers/hags for obvious reasons and some pre-reworked doctors with the former passive madness feature.

This gameplay is boring as ######### (slow pace, often 20+ mins game) and relies on the attrition from survivor side. For instance, it will be very efficient against injured survivors who can't heal themselves. You got it, this strategy has been really impaired - like the hit and run strategy - by the CoH boon perk.

Finally, this strategy will only be efficient if 1 or 2 survivors are already dead (or alive morons that refuse to do gens for some reasons - common in soloQ)

In a word, it may backfire if the killer does this from start :)

Nothing and is a perfectly valid strategy. However like others said this strategy only really works if someone is dead already. So while it is a long and tenacious strategy, it's a perfectly viable one. It's a strange strategy you don't see often. Good for some killers unnecessary for others.

Bad game sense and boredom mostly. Don't even need to necessarily hard proxy a 3 gen. Many maps give you a win as soon as you load in if you're decent. Coal Tower usually spawns a 4 gen on the main building side. Suffo Pit can spawn a literal 5 gen. Azarovs will almost always spawn a 4 gen. You just play half the map and win. But killers....don't...for some reason, and then complain about SWF or whatnot

A 3-gen is a losing war for the killer. The only thing it takes to crush that strategy is to have people on the different gens simultaneously.

In my experience, it doesn't usually work. Someone will either figure out what you're doing or be that type of survivor who picks a gen and sticks with it no matter how many times you chase them away. Then one of them gets done, and you've wasted most of the game trying for a strategy that isn't viable anymore.

CoH has also become a problem for three-genning survivors, since they'll always run to the other side of the map and heal themselves after one hit.

All the best three-gens I've had have been accidents. You could probably pick a three-gen at the start of the game, find the weakest link in the survivor posse and tunnel them to death, and then go defend that three-gen if it's still alive. If not, somebody's still dead and you haven't wasted anything.

Because you can't win the game that way. You have to already be in an advantageous position to successfully defend a 3-gen. It has to be a 3v1 or a 2v1 already, otherwise the survivors just win the war of attrition. And if you're selecting an area from the start of the game to defend, you're probably focused more on that than tunneling someone out so that a 3-gen is even feasible later on. Getting a good 3-gen is just based on luck, really.

Stack in a gen and you will finish that within 40 seconds, split it up and killer can't regress all those within time.

If one of survivors died and you 3 gen'd, I'd say you've lost a game already.

Alot of the times gens don't spawn that close, granted that's map and killer dependant.

Sometimes rng works for you, i've had a few car yards, which is a big map, but has some nice open areas so hatchet snipes work on 3 gens.

But planning on that at the start is short sighted, again depends on the Killer, seems a bit like relying on noed, the second your totem is gone, or one of your gens is gone, you're done.

because most killers don't plan for a 3 gen. survivors just do a gen, walk to the nearest one and repeat. creating the 3 gen.

Whats stopping the killer from getting a 3 gen?

Survivors with brains in their heads.

You can do that but it's unnecessary and it's a big risk to let the game get to 1 gen with four survivors alive, potentially even with 0 hooks. It's better to consider on loading in which gens you really want to defend and which ones are worth ignoring. I.e. one gen in a corner isolated from all the others in a corner can be let go, more centralised gens and ones that are close together can be more protected (I do my best to stop the central gen on lery's or sanctum getting done especially early game, asylum one I'm not as concerned about but I'll still contest it)

So it's more keeping your options open for a 3 gen if needed not so much something to open with. And it's one reason I don't run corrupt.

I've beat a 3 gen on azarovs. You and another survivor work on separate gens. The killer can only chase one at a time and gens regress 4 times slower than repair Speed

If 4 survivors are alive when there is only 1 gen left, then the 3 gen is a lost cause for the killer.

To overcome a war of attrition bring either Pop, Pain Resonance or Jolt and slug a lot; only hook when you can. It then becomes a can you drop the survivors faster than they can do a gen. Also if there is a nearby boon totem snuff it. CoH allows for fast healing but if they have to run to get to it that effectively adds to the healing time.

Nothing stops the killer from looking for and playing with a 3-gen in mind. It's a smart move in some cases and if its not prevented by the survivors then they have no one to blame but themselves. Its not scummy, cheap, or an abuse of game mechanics its a strategy there for the killer to employ. You just have to make sure you can defend it and it could save you a good amount of time.

Survivors being efficient and avoiding the 3 gen.

this is not a good tactic and it won't work against good survivors. You can only chase one survivor and the other 3 can rush the last gen or split up 2/1 on 2 gens. It can be annoying for the survivors but in the end the killer will loose especially if he doesnt get a hook in the 3-gen. They will run everytime into the outside territory as soon as you chase them. If you don't have hook stages by the time there is 1 gen left, you will not get more than 1 kill.
