Why do people think survivor gameplay takes skill?

Why killer gameplay involves tryharding from the second you spawn, having to find a survivor, chase them, hit them once, chase them again, finally down them, check the surroundings to see if someone will save, picking them up and then carrying to hook (3 times per survivor) while survivor gameplay is just holding M1 for 90 seconds in front of a giant red gen you can't miss?

The only part of survivor gameplay that takes any sort of skill and effort is surviving a chase, and there are millions of matches in which most of the survivors in the game don't even interact with the killer because they either play immersed or the killer never had the chance to chase them.

It's hilarious how a camping Bubba did more in a match by just finding someone, downing them with chainsaw and taking them to basement than a survivor who did all 5 gens by himself, at least the Bubba had to work for his single kill.

Why are there so many cries about noed being an "unearned" free kill when Survivor gameplay itself leads to an unearned win? Or are people going to tell me now hiding in a locker letting your teammates die so you get hatch takes skill and effort?

There's a lot of disconnect between survivor and killer gameplay and it's the reason survivor is considered the relaxed part of the game while killer is stressful. Survivors getting a win after hiding all game in a locker? That's fine. A killer getting a kill after chasing and downing someone with NOED and then protecting the hex? Noooo that is unearned, killers should suffer and never win, nerf deathslinger again!

Both sides feel like they take equal amounts of skill in terms of the base game, map awareness, looping, chases and so on.

Now put the 26 different killer and their powers into the mix.

Survivor are just skins but for playing survivor you need to know the basic counterplay and strategies for all 26 killer as you never know which you will vs in the next trial.

Killer on the other hand need mastery with each character since survivor are the same on larger scale.

So the only real debate in my mind is skill of versing 26 character in however many maps and their synergies against mastering up to 26 characters.

If you truly only main one killer i would say survivor in the long term needs more effort but since that would become increasingly boring i would say learning/"mastering" multiple killer needs more effort.

Yeah like the post above said. Also the survivor skill ceiling is quite low and idk how certain survivors are that bad at being a survivor. Like I'm talking pre dropping against a pig or trapper while they could easily get loop off.

Well as you did noticed is hard to get close to a survivor, they try not to be close to you while gens doesnt move, skillchecks are a joke and the have big antenna in the sky showing where it is.

Dbd doesn’t require much skill period imo. It’s a fairly easy game to learn

What if the survivor interactions included puzzles to replace skill checks? Doing it quick enough will give extra speed while missing the good window will cause a failure?

They do take skill, maybe less mechanically intensive than billy huntress nurse but if you just loop without thinking you’ll go down way quicker.

    Assuming you aren't just trolling.

The fact that even a bad team can easily win by doing gens in parallel, starting after the first round of the killer, and hiding properly doesn't mean it doesn't take skill. Only that some parts of the game are just broken.

Being a good survivor takes skills. Granted there are a lot of second chance perks available but surviving a long chase, being patient and smart about where to go and what to chain requires map knowledge and self-control. Plus there is also the game sense of when to be on gens, when to run, when to take aggro, not running to the hook nor a gen being done while in a chase, ... and more advanced tactics.

Watch the streamer called "cope" (the best survivor I've ever seen) and tell me what he does doesn't take skill.

I play both roles and if I'm an average to good killer (I've often been called a "god" Nurse by nice survivors, a synonym for "very lucky" in my book), I'm an average survivor at best. This alone is proof that playing survivor requires skills and training. I could never win against a killer with a couple thousands of hours while I do that to survivors regularly.

Survivors have literally less things to manage, they can even skip hidden information assumption part as always choose to use comms.

If you REALLY want to survive in soloq and you are on low MMR, maybe, but if you play SWF or actually get good teammate, it is triple times easier than killers.

The reality is while survivor does take less skill than killer due to the load being shared with 3 other players, Killer doesn't require that much either. The only real skill thats in the game is motar huntress. The fact that running and hitting the interaction button on every pallet you see or standing still right next to a hooked survivor is meta tells you how "skillful" this game is. This game is just a glorified party game.

Ah yes, textbook skill type "elitism" where you seem to only consider skill expression that can be classified as mechanical skill with a little bit of credit given to tile/map knowledge too.

A lot of skill on both sides in DBD is far from as visible and "flashy" as what might be the first thing that pops into the mind when one thinks about it, especially when you get to decisionmaking on a more macroscopic level, the stuff that's more grand strategy than "tactics" to put it that way. Just like in a FPS game someone with decent mechanical aim and decent positioning will probably beat someone with insane aim ability and bad positioning, skill is a product of many factors, some more visible than others.

I don't really think anything in this game takes skill tbh.

Everything is pretty spoon fed to both sides as to how play optimally and it's not that hard to do.

Skilled survivors exist, but skill isn't required. It's mostly "press E for a second chance again." I get that knowing when to press E is a skill, but I'm working on long-range hatchet throws and hitting people with possessed chains. A world of difference in skill requirement.

To be fair, the skill floor on either side is pretty low. I mean, the game is fairly repetitive.

Well said dude. Learn 26 killer powers while the other side has to learn (At least) 26 counters to said killers. Skill is required on both sides. There are more than a few types of skills required on both sides.

just gonna chock this one up to a troll, or someone seriously upset they just lost a video game.

Either way, how do people legitimately wake up and think "yeah i seriously think this, survivor bad and me the best ever"

You did not just say that. Survivor takes lots of skill. Hitting skill checks is harder than any game mechanic. Nah but seriously it takes a lot of skill as survivor. I'm a 3k hour survivor main and I still got ways to go. Every survivor goes in stages of gameplay and it takes skill to advance to the next one

Survivors have to learn about 30 killers and their powers + addons while the other side only needs to learn a handful.

Both sides take some amount of skill, even then it's pretty minimal. DbD is a pretty skilless game all things considered. There's only a few Killers that take huge amount of skill and that's about it, everything else is a cakewalk

It's not exactly a magic door, but I think what you're looking for is called 'Hex: No One Escapes Death'. Colloquially referred to as 'NOED'.

  • Bob9

it takes much more skill than that. as survivor, you literally walk up to the gen, hold it for a period of time without missing skillchecks so you can fix it. bam, 1/6 of the game done. while the killer to get 2/4 of the game done he needs 2 survs that are dead on hook. it's not that easy to mindgame or play around god pallets. and your perks don't even help you that much unless you bring a map offering for your build or you're running meta builds. killer is much more than "hold W, get close, M1, repeat". if you're that typical toxic surv that has an auto clicker on the flashlight just to piss off the killer, tbags and just got pissed off cause you got face camped, don't even continue this discussion
