Tomorrow we'll find out if DBD is really dying.

If DBD fails to increase player count in steam charts then that's 2 licensed chapters a failure. I don't know what a better proof of DBD Dying than seeing 2 Licensed Chapters or 3 consecutive chapters failing to increase player count.

Idk if it's a failure. Selling copies to every customer they currently have is more than likely a commercial success.

Realistically, I am ready for super long killer Q times for like 2~ days until everyone gets done being gen rushed as her and goes back to their mains.

Though, everyone has already identified her as a weak killer so maybe it won't even take that long. Arist was basically gone within less than a week lol, and she was actually pretty strong.

Pinhead died off super fast and survivors mains relentlessly cried about him. So imagine a killer that even survivor mains aren't crying about.

Either way, I am not looking forward to the queues.

DBD has more users than it did a year ago. Maybe it’s in the decline but I’m still enjoying myself.

I doubt they can top resident evil chapter from last year, I think DBD will still be in decline then as we still got VHS coming up. I'll just make the same post as this in June then. I would love to be proven wrong by BHVR but I think there is no chance of that happening.

Edit: As long as the Lead game designer believes Skill = Kills, I am 100% sure that it will still be in decline in June.

I only came back because VHS went down...It's a much better game. And Dowsey, he usually makes me want to play.

No last year in January it was averaging 36k player that month and it's the same this last January. It's also down 2k from last January's perk.

It's literally been losing players for 6 straight months and it been more every month. Dbd has never done this before.

    D3spair Member Posts: 715

I still have no clue on why people here are not seeing the concern of a game losing players for 6 months straight.

  • OpenX
    OpenX Member Posts: 890

Because it hit a record high right before that, it only takes 5 people to play a match, and i'm not a BHVR developer so the world doesn't end if the game collapses entirely

Me either I could understand 1-3 but even after the artist dropped the playerbase still fell.

There's clearly a continuous drop in the playerbase and last gen consoles are still having alot of problems I hear so you can assume the console playerbase has probably drop even more.

VHS is a direct competitor to DBD, it is the same type of game, 4 surivvors and 1 killer. You can expect more like it to come in the near future. DBD just cannot compete against developers that actually listen to their playerbase. That said, VHS still IMO didn't get the formula down exactly right for what makes DBD so unique (mix of old school videogame elements), but it stands to reason that some company will eventually do so.

Games die all the time and it wouldn't be unusual for this one too given how i'm guessing at-least half the playerbase either dislikes or outright despises the devs. They simply have a monopoly on 1v4 horror which is why a lot of people just don't stop playing. Once that fades, no amount of extra bloodpoints or distractions will stop anyone from leaving.

It's not the same. It's up ten percent or more if any one month is compared to the same twelve months prior. For instance in your January example: January 2022's 40,000 is greater than January 2021's 36,000.

The Steam Charts does not make me think DBD is dying. It makes me think that the peaks DBD reached during Summer 2021 were so insane for a game like this and was so high that even though the game clearly has more users than a year ago over the last six months (or the year before) that it somehow looks bad. These arguments look like bad analytics to me.

And VHS hasn't accomplished anything. Dowsey's back to playing DBD religiously if yall want to go there. He's all aboard the Sadako hype train and I'm glad he's releasing more content.

Your right that's my bad I was looking at February 2022. That still doesn't change that the gain and gain % has been dropping.

It might not be dieing yet but it's on its way.

It's not exactly 6 months. September 2021 only went up 0.51% which can be considered as a plateau.

If you ignore noise like this (and I believe you should), it's an 8 month downwards tendency.

Next month, the numbers should rise substantially.

But then two things usually happen.

Either the killer is not good enough and people will leave again.

Either the killer will be good, a lot of people will complain, it will be nerfed two weeks later and people will leave again.

Besides this new survivor boon looks another PITA for most killers (and they are the ones who are leaving).

What queues? I can't remember the last time, when killers had queues on release of a new chapter.

Most new killers disappear within 2 or 3 days after their release.

I think on Pinheads release, I played like 5 or 6 matches before I was matched against him. Not a good sign.

This chapter won't be any different.

Because not everybody is obsessed with this game and trying to create a narrative. This game is going on 6 years old. If you don't like it, do yourself a favor and move on with your life already.

After May, people joined game for RE. So many new players bought DbD. But looks like DbD lost all of them. So this game had 40k average players before RE and now it is 34K?

Something does not look good, maybe this is reason we had more licensed chapters this year. I don't know. But even licensed chapters can not save game, they need to focus on issues. New multiplayer horror games are coming and they looks decent. DbD is not unopposed anymore.

    I did move on.

I'm just coming back to Forums because The Ring is coming up and I predict it's going to fail to increase player count.

The only thing that can kill dbd at this point is real competitive, which I dont see yet.

If you put it into context of a record breaking Anniversary chapter, yes.

It's on its way to dying because it's gaining more slowly? That's the logic of investors when they expect company profits to go up nonstop until they reach infinity dollars.

This game got so many haters that people want it to fail. I have never seen that. Well to be fair I do want that new suicide squad game to flop but that’s just me

DBD will be fine for a while but unless something changes it will run into trouble eventually. This is a growing genre and we already have VHS, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Ash vs Evil Dead on the horizon. Plus next generation consoles are slowly becoming more popular and there will be plenty of big releases in the future which will take a bite out of the console playerbase.

The game wont die anytime soon but its on life support. A lot of people arent happy with current state of the game. The only reason its lived as long is the license killers and its free on most platforms. Theres also no real competition and bhvr knows it. Eventually they will run out of new content to keep people coming back.

The game is slowly dying and the only way to stop it is listen to the community but let's be honest, this won't happen, and there are too many issues to start with

I personally won't come back till they remove this crap of sbmm

  • chargernick85
    chargernick85 Member Posts: 3,171

They not dying and as much as I want things to get bad so they are forced to make changes sooner/faster it just won't happen. VHS is wayy to different to matter only comparision is 4v1 monster/survivor. All they need is a big time anniversary event/character that is well known everywhere. Fnaf there are a ton who love it but a ton who don't.....so don't think it's right time for that. I think Pennywise/Jason would be perfect for this. They both are so well known and loved in all generations imo.

Also something a bit more than cakes/survivor items (Do not get rid of my cakes) just add something else as well. Like the snowmen just lets not have whatever you put in favor one side or the other (snowmen).

    chargernick85 Member Posts: 3,171

Same. I just worry it could drop some as well. I wouldn't have a problem if it was in I just think the other 2 are more balanced and perfect for anniversary. Pennywise might get me playing more than one killer game a day. Not to mention there are a ton of survivors they could use....unlike Jason/Fnaf.

It's gonna increase because of this chapter, happens every chapter really.

  • EvilJoshy
    EvilJoshy Member Posts: 5,295

Asymmetrical games are really really hard to balance. There have been several that flopped shortly after release.

Evolve, deceit, last year, resident evil resistance, vhs "could" be next. Too early to tell.

As for marvel super hero movies. They are starting to decline. I loved no way home but black widow, hawkeye, ten rings and eternals sucked. Wandavision got better near the end but the first 3 episodes put me to sleep. Tom Hiddleston carried Loki.

The Numbers won't jump the way people are hoping they will the hype around this chapter was killed because Behavior feared the Leakers would release it before they could so they jumped the gun and well here we are with a chapter we should have all been hyped for but instead we're snoring because we know and have known for months.

Respectfully if Behavior is this scared of Leakers fix your game files and start hammering down on your Employee NDA's because its clear someone at Behavior is leaking this stuff I mean come on man have you seen the stuff the Leakers know about LMFAO.

I myself am a huge comic book fan and even I have had some super hero fatigue. I say some because I saw no way home justice League and Wanda vision last year and loved them. I have not seen black widow eternals and have no interest in the Batman, flash or any thing in the future. Except for doctor strange

Yeah I do not doubt the VHS devs are bad similar to most other indie company devs (or mainstream for that matter). But all it's going to take is one competent re-creation of DBD where they copy the fast pace/mind-gamey playstyle of it. I never said VHS will kill DBD, it definitely will not. They really seem to be going the same road as "Last Year" in that they are designing a really un-fun goofy game where nothing ever feels at stake. But i did notice VHS copied DBD way more than Last Year did in some ways; they just messed up other parts a bit too much.

1v4 has massive potential for creativity and at the end of the day fun is what matters for videogames. DBD can get really boring after a few games because all the killers are kind of the same and these developers have not innovated with ANYTHING in any major way for all the time its been up.

No new gamemodes like 2v8, no crazy killer powers like mind control, summoning monsters, etc.

Not even ranked mode or addressing the freakin disparity between SWF and non-SWF. Literally no difference despite the fact its gamebreaking.

You get any competent dev team who wants to innovate the 1v4 asym. genre in a meaningful way and people will drop DBD like a hot potato to play killers/survivors with more interesting powers/ability sets (maybe more than 1-2 per, crazy right).

All their licenses aren't going to mean anything when DBD's killers are underwhelming (and only considered fun because nothing to compare it with).

So, I've gathered from this topic that 5.6.0 will release today March 8th...... I've not been able to find anything that officially states this. Am I just freaking blind? lol

I like how people think DBD is dying when it has tens of thousands of people playing at any given time and battlefield 2042 has 2000

  • drsoontm
    drsoontm Member Posts: 4,903

Actually the devs themselves seem competent. They seem to know what they are talking about (something I cannot say from every dev I've ever heard).

If you are still here, then you still haven't "moved on".

To some degree you care enough to log into the forums and still talk about the game.
