No wonder people don't want to learn new/start playing killer
There where playing Sadako and even bought the new skin and everything. they had only 2 level 1 perks
I feel f'ing awful
they where probs so excited for this chapter that they bought the new skin right away.
just to get beat by people with 2000 more hours then them.
I'm sick of this crap

Simple solution: Unranked mode
But ye well it is what it is sadly, a friend of mine got dbd steam shared from me recently, she will also start playing a few days and I already feel sad for her, I already obviously let her know about the issues with this game but she still wants to give it a try.
Well lets see, I will give her the best support I can give

Just a dumb joke about what Patrick (one of BHVRs game designers) said about SBMM/MMR
Basically comparing DBD to Hockey in a really painful analogy.
23 -
Yeah it can suck playing against randos. I just went against a group that abused double lockers to guarantee escapes. I beat the group anyway, just kept pulling until they ran out of flashlight. And as I'm about to kill the 3rd one with no generators left, they took advantage of the exit gate bug to force crash my game. I'm not usually bitter and I had fun versing them, but to have someone force crash my game really put a bad taste in my mouth.

LOL 😂
2 -
Hope she doesn't give up
2 -
well shes not a gamer at all, she infact has no idea how to install games even, she will most likely just play here and there once a week or so cuz she is mainly just partying or busy with her work.
2 -
Or... those who got the game for free from Epic and have no idea what they're doing. lol
Anyway, with the current player count, I think it's impossible to find players that equip fewer/weaker perks that a new killer could be matched up with.
It happens to survivors too you know. First time playing a survivor, Killer has everything...
6 -
Yup.
MMR seems really hinky right now, especially at primetime. I'll go from getting a team of 4000 hour monsters to a group of 100 hour intermediates with little rhyme or reason - and outside of primetime I'm lucky to get a game with the 'Matchmaking Failed' issue.
What I will say is that, while I do run into the occasional really nasty killer, survivors really do seem to like picking on people when they know they totally outclass them.
4 -
i know i just feel really bad when this happens. going against 4 people who seem to know everything when you know nothing
3 -
I only got Sadako to level 15 with nearly 200k BP. That says a lot.
2 -
Might i recommend Civilization?
9 -
Why did you not just face a wall?
0 -
The double locker flashlight cannot be avoided. You pull from the locker and they get a guaranteed flashlight save while you're in animation.
5 -
How would unranked mode solve when the matchmaking algorithm ignores the MMRs and puts them against players regardless of rating on certain situations? You’d just be seeing wild west matches all the time instead of only some of the time.
0 -
What does facing a wall have to do with the game crashing at the exits?
4 -
Unfortunately, An unranked mode would:
A.) Split the player-base. Enjoy even longer queue times.
b.) What is to stop a sweaty Killer/Survivor going into unranked queue and destroying everyone with meta perks/slugging?
C.) This would require BHVR to acknowledge there is a problem with their game.
I want a change too, but I don't think this is it.
3 -
Yeah i hate it when i crush someone only to discover theyre new. Makes me feel bad. Playing against try hards 90% of the time has affected me.
0 -
Local player tries new killer, doesn't immediately 4k, is upset at ranking??
This and more at 6.
1 -
I'm guessing he's talking about double lockers, which on most configurations can allow a 100% unavoidable flashlight save. I've had survivors do this to basically draw a game out for ages - if they know what they are doing, you're looking at an extra 15-20 minutes of frustration.
2 -
A. It wouldnt, many other games have this without any que issues.
B. You disable the unranked mode for ppl that have a certain devotion level (account level). Would also reduce the amount of players to be split from the ranked mode.
C. Ye they will never admit it xD
0 -
Is possible to still have high devotion but be bad at the game to want to play in unranked.

According to the statistics pretty good job so far
3 -
That joke is old already

Another pretty skilled match so far.

Yeah the games that have those two modes usually have triple quadruple the player base. Like League, Dota, CSGO, etc.
This game is too niche to have multiple game modes. This is pure speculation of course but I think raw players numbers wouldn't support the function.
Now if there was a completely new game mode like a Prop-Hunt or something, that would be a different story.

Found the goalie.

i prefer playing referee

Yup, had a team send me to ormond and do the same thing in main building when i was playing nurse. Nothing I could do, it was a coordinated swf. So three people would be doing it to me, while 1 was rushing gens. I'd try to look for the person doing gens but then they'd just follow me, and the dwight that was doing gens would just swap places with another person and do the same thing.
Whenever I actually did get a down, there would be no walls around me, and there'd be like 2 people covering all angles, so I could do the quick 180 trick. They'd also get on top of this rock, and I didn't know how to get on top of it. Apparently it's a glitch where on a certain spot on the rock, you could get on top of. Even if I did get the down on the person who was on the rock, and if I got up there, I would probably be really easy to flashlight, since there's no objects. On top of all of that, they (most likely) purposefully left 1 gen left just so that they could keep trolling me, and I eventually started to hit the gen, and gave up trying to kill them, because I wanted out of the game. They eventually 4 escaped and typed "GGS <3" and "FUN GAME <3". Couldn't tell if they were being genuine, or they're just trolling me, especially with the "fun game", so I just typed ggs and left.
Either way I decided to take a 2 week break. I pray that I never see a team doing this ever again.

That Hockey comparison doesn´t even make sense if you consider that there needs to be an even playing field and an equal amount of players on it.
3 -
Simple solution add a match finder in Kill Your Friends and give players the option to make it invite only. This way you can play casual but sweaty players don’t gain anything from it since you don’t get bloodpoints. As for split players base, I think it would be fine in this situation because most players are gonna wanna earn bp playing. Also If you’ve got say like 3 friends in a KYF lobby is probably wouldn’t be too hard fill in those extra spots with random players.

DBD is hockey

We had a new player we faced yesterday join our crew, it was their first game ever and they just bought Legion. I have over 3.5k hours and the rest of my team had between 1.2k and 2k hours.
Anyways great guy.

I find it funnier than most of the dbd jokes that BHVR actually endorses

MMR is literally not working and it has nothing to do with it, it's more of a problem of how weak killer without meta perks are and how much skill they need to even stand a chance against most of survivors.
0 -
No a killer with not even 300 hours going against 4 survivor with 3k+ hours.
2 -
Fair but they are a joke
0 -
There is zero good reason not to match someone playing a killer for the first time against the lowest MMR survivors.
If they're an experienced killer, they get an easier game to try out the power. Then, if they dominate the game, their MMR kicks way up and they can take the experience to a harder level of competition.
If they're a brand new killer with no experience, they may struggle, they may do okay. Either way, they're at such a low level, that MMR correction won't (in theory) push them into the 2000 hrs SWF Survivors bracket.
And that's to say nothing of THE FACT THAT CHARACTER-SPECIFIC MMR FOR EACH KILLER WAS SPECIFICALLY BILLED AS MAKING IT LESS PUNISHING TO TRY SOMEBODY NEW
They threw out the only good thing that MMR could've done. Every hour and dollar spent on the MMR system was a complete waste if they couldn't figure out that it needs to be there so that they don't ruin somebody's first impression.
1 -
By that logic, shouldn't survivors go against really bad sadakos as well so they can learn to face her? The game consists of 2 sides, you can't just ignore 1 side.
The same rules could even apply to survivor.
2 -
Brand new survivors SHOULD go up against brand new killers, yes.
Survivors with 2000 hours in the game do not need to learn a new skill set for each killer. But the difference between trying Blight for the first time or trying Trickster for the first time is night and day.
The VERY FEW killers that ask survivors to do literally anything other than their basic gameplay loop have unreasonably high kill rates due to new survivors, not experienced ones. And, as I mentioned, New survivors need low mmr killers.
The game consists of 2 sides, but the two sides do not control equally. Killer controls are explicitly made poorly, while every survivor controls exactly the same, without any of the slow-down, cool down, or throttled movement than killers frequently have.
Don't be fatuous.

nhl refs are so garbage

Except for the basics of a killer, ESPECIALLY a 115 m1 killer should not be such a huge change for a killer with even 100 hours. Yes powers all work and play differently, but if you forget the basics of the game like pressuring, dropping chases, how to m1 in general every time you pick up a new killer then idk what to say lol
I totally understand wanting to practice and learn a new killer but just expecting to 4k right out of the bat is really a you issue, you shouldn't just expect to dominate trying something new. Especially considering that MMR for a new killer doesn't start out at max, it starts at an average depending on your other killers. So if the game knows you are a bad killer it adjusts that for all your killers, then playing individual killers raise theirs alone, so playing Sadako for the first time WON'T put you at max or bad survivors.
This is also all assuming MMR works which it absolutely does not and it is fairly random.
0 -
We are not. We just call fouls for teams that pay us Accordingly
0 -
Yeah, you just have to take 30 straight losses for the MMR system to figure out that maybe, just maybe, you shouldn't be playing against 5K hour Survivors when you're trying to learn a brand new Killer's power
5 -
:( my small market team
1 -
And then matchmaking matches you up with them anyway because they have been in queue for half an hour because no one wants to play Killer at high MMR.
4 -
This lol. MMR would work so much better if BHVR just forced the massive sweat squads to sit in queue for ages until they meet a Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer Blight that can actually compete instead of forcing newbie and weaker killers to get bullied
1 -
MMR is bad. And we know it. It's even worse that it seems to ignore its own system.

I miss a training mode for killers, but the devs don't listen to us, why should we help them if they don't help us?
