The Onryō is actually pretty good
Beware, long read ahead
After playing Sadako for a while, I've realized that, she's not that bad, she's pretty good in fact.
Let me start this off by saying, I'm not the best Onryō player in the world, I'm not using her best build and I don't know how high my MMR (if it even works) is, this is all just based on my experience AS, not against, the Onryō.
Here's a quick explanation on the Onryō and her Power:
Sadako is a weird one. She's a Hit N Run stealth Killer, able to 'manifest' and 'demanifest', like the Wraith's Wailing Bell, without anti-loop with TV's "randomly" (they almost always spawn next to a Generator) scattered around the map.
They grant her map mobility and some info whenever a Survivor is within 16 of it whenever Sadako teleports to it.
Here are my opinions on her Power/s
Her TV's allow for amazing map control, especially when you have a 3-Gen.
Her manifesting is ok, not the best stealth Power but it's good enough for sneaking up on people. It can also be used during chase using the passive phasing, tho it's pretty unreliable.
Her Condemnation is where she falls short. It doesn't reliably get Survivors off of Generators and it builds up quite slowly, only building up of a Survivor holds a tape or if Sadako teleports on top of a Survivor 7 times.
As with any M1 or Hit N Run Killer, Boon: Circle Of Healing hurts her quite a lot.
Here's why I think she's pretty good:
The Onryō has an amazing 3-Gen, if not one of the best. With the way TV's usually spawn, a tight 3-Gen is guaranteed to have atleast 2 TV's nearby, if not all 3.
Sadako has a guaranteed win, if she manages to kill 1 Survivor before ~3 Generators get finished. Why? Once 1 Survivor is dead, that means that's less hands on Generators, which means Sadako has a better chance of winning the 3-Gen attrition war, but also less hands that could heal and counter her Hit N Run.
The Condemnation comes in clutch during the attrition war, as Survivors are more tightly packed together, but also means that Survivors are more likely to get off Generators to use the tape, meaning there's a chance of catching them in a bad spot and finishing them off.
Sadako has a kit that synergizes well with some of the 'meta' Killer Perks, but also some lesser used ones
Info Perks, Barbecue And Chili, Tinkerer, Discordance, are, as expected, really good on her, as her teleport is map wide
Slowdown Perks, especially Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance, work really well with her teleport too.
Some more 'off-meta' Perks I'd like to mention that I've used, or would like to try on her:
Nurse's Calling is a Perk I'd like to mention, as her stealth Power works well with it, but it was a bit unreliable during my playtime as Sadako.
Fire Up is a guilty pleasure of mine. It's not good, but the small speed boost feels nice. Brutal Strength would be in the same boat as Fire Up
Coup De Grace could work well with the Bloody Fingernails Add-on, tho I haven't yet experimented with it.
Since I mentioned Add-ons, how about we have a quick chat about them?
They're fine, they're nothing special, Ring Drawing, Yoichi's Fishing Net and Cabin Sign are the ones I used the most, but they're probably not her best Add-ons.
So those were my thoughts on Sadako after some more playtime

This is why we should not judge before try. I loved Sadako, she is alright killer. Some stupid maps can hurt her (The Game, Coldwind etc.) but with televisions, she can leave loop if survivor has strong spot. CoH is problem but this perk hurts all killers, so it is not just Sadako's issue.
You already mentioned, she has great synergy with info and slowdown perks. I think she is decent killer. I just wanna one little change. Teleport should have shorter cool-down and she is okey.

If Nurse still loses to certain teams, she certainly can't beat them. And if we're conceding that she doesn't have the potential to beat any team, she's not strong enough.

Whoa you trying to blow the forums up right now.
Say she weak or else....LUL.
1 -
Yeah she will face that strong SWF teams all time. All survivors that skilled.
2 -
damn didnt know you were facing Oracle every game
1 -
Yes they will....You didn't hear? The killers that play 8-10 hrs a day as a job don't get those teams all day but 80% of the forums does.
I swear I am either going to do myself a favor and leave forums or turn myself into a ######### troll like sluzzy. ######### get on my nerves these days.
1 -
How'd you rate her amongst the stealth killers?
0 -
Some people wants 100% win, when they lose one game:
Survivors are op nerf, this killer op nerf. I don't take serious this people.
I can not say DbD is balanced because it is not and it needs changes but if i believe this forum, this game is survivorside and survivors are escaping 90% of time.
1 -
Strawman.
You don't have to face that kind of team every game in order to consistently lose. It's not their inability to go down you should be worried about. It's the gen speed, and CoH. How does an M1 killer survive in this meta? They don't.

My impression after 10 games on her...I must disagree.
The stealth feels...iffy. It's more like the Spirit's passive phasing - once I'm in range, it doesn't feel much different from walking up to them out of stealth. Watching a bit of footage, it's usually very obvious where she is and what she's doing.
Condemn feels negligible for the most part. I've got someone maxed out once or twice, and it's pretty simple for them to evade me until they can drop it.
Her big thing seems to be traversal, which is awesome - but the TV spawns are bizarre on some maps. Often they get placed on the floor below a gen on indoor maps, or in a position where you can't really close effectively.
A lot of her power feels like it's been shunted into her addons (she reminds me of Pig and Wraith in that regard) with a handful of browns and yellows that feel like they should be basekit.
What really hurts her is a complete lack of anti loop tools, which above a certain MMR makes playing her rough.
I'm going to keep playing her and this may be like Cenobite, where I just need to get a feel for how to play her - but compared to Artist, she feels...lacking.

I've finally played against her. I consider myself pretty average as survivor and I find her wanting.
Granted this is day #2 but it was my first vs game (I've played her several times yesterday though).
I'm way more wary versing Wraith, Pig, Ghostface or Demogorgon than her. Let's not even speak about Freddy.

"Sadako has a guaranteed win, if she manages to kill 1 Survivor before ~3 Generators get finished."
As if other killers doesn't has a guaranteed win in that situation.
Pretty much every killer has advantage in that situation, even the one who doesn't have very good mobility can achieve 3k most of times afterwards.
What killers need to be good is something that helps when they are on disadvantage, which she doesn't really have one
This game IS survivor sided and fairly good survivors are escaping 90% of times, even if you remove "good" and replace it with plain swf BHVR said there is 15% gap or something between them and soloq in escape rate, which is rather big and prove average killers fall behind SWFs.
Just like how good nurses are 4king 90% of times.
I mean if one side only consists of nurse tier character, and other side is variety of trash to decent to nurse, game is certainly tilted toward that one side.

Spirit’s better

That doesn't sound like the sort of thing you'd say @TheGannMan You feeling ok? Not too blue I hope.
1 -
she just came out to live servers. Some of us haven’t even tried her or went against her so we don’t know how strong or weak this killer is. Give it a while
0 -
I've played her 13 times now and played against her once.
She's...not great. It's not as if there is some sort of wrinkle to her kit that's not fully understood right now. She's basically an M1 killer with a slightly smaller TR and a long cooldown traversal ability. She's...Freddy with better addons.
3 -
I mean she isnt strong like Nurse or Spirit but she is alot Fun have alot Fun playing her :D
1 -
It's pretty fun until it's not.
2 -
Agreed. TV's should have a shorter cooldown, ~60 seconds or so after teleporting and a 70-80 second cooldown when a Survivor shuts a TV off.
She's probably the best stealth Killer we have right now. All stealth Killers got hit by CoH hard, but she has an instant teleport, which means she could teleport to a Boon Totem and teleport back in matter of seconds.
I won't disagree with you on her feeling lacking compared to Bird Mommy, especially in the anti-loop department, nor will I disagree that her being an M1 Killer doesn't hurt her when above a certain MMR, as I've "presumably" (still don't know how high my MMR is) played against high MMR Survivors that knew both how to loop and how to use CoH effectively, and still won with a combination of Hit N Run usage, aswell as tunneling and camping when it deemed useful.
As explained in the post, a tight 3-Gen usually has more than 1 TV nearby. There's a 70% there'll be 2 TV's or more in that one area, meaning the 100 second cooldown of 1 TV probably won't hurt much, tho I still want a reduction in said cooldown.
I wouldn’t say every Killer has that strong of a 3-Gen. Sadako's Condemnation punishes Survivors who try and stay near the 3-Gen, forcing them to leave into an unfavorable position, lest they want to get mori'd.
Are there any Killers that have a disadvantage when losing? The meta Killers, Nurse and Blight, don't have anything that helps them when they're losing, they have either an amazing chase or amazing anti-loop or both. The help when at a disadvantage comes from Perks or strats such as tunneling and camping

The tvs are literally not active long enough to maintain a 3 gen, and all it would take it is for one semi-competent survivor to strip your power and cleanse before they proceed to win the war of attrition. I will admit the chances of that are relatively low if they 3 gen themselves WHILE you are camping and tunneling someone out of the game. But I could wreck that caliber of survivor with the Otzdarva challenge on whoever it is you people actually think is a weak killer. I could do it on Trapper without using his traps.
Do not get me wrong, she has potential to get cheeky relative to other m1 killers in the same situation, but I fail to see how that makes her "good."

Shout out to Enduring for feeling so so good on her

Good read, thnx. One thing though- her passive phasing is actually great at countering body blocking. I’ve had 3 within the past 24 hours phase right through me to get the down. It was pretty impressive because I imagine the killer has to demanifest(?) at the right time to land the hit and avoid getting the body blocker instead.
0 -
No, you can't say she is good! Otz already said she is C-tier at best and we all know his opinion is the only one that matters, ever! /s
0 -
Hete is my 2 cents The teleport stuff is easy to avoid.Just take a tape when someone is hooking from the closest tv.You are repairing get the tape of the closest tv.
0 -
I'd rank her B-tier vs. solos and C-tier vs. SWF.
1 -
Agreed, I wont judge her before trying her a lot. I mean I was the first to start a "Sadako is weak" discussion in the PTB feedback category, but that was my first impression from playing her in KYF for an hour. After playing her for two days, I didn't change my mind. Still, I like this killer a lot!
Now I need to get all the perks for her first and then find the best working build. This will take some time, so I will not comment on her current status. I mean I've been 4king a lot but that's more because most people don't know how to play against her. This is why people like Sluzzy consider her being OP on day 1...

Most anti-loop abilities are something that helps when "losing" as it counters windows/palettes which is super advantageous for survivors, mobility also helps keeping map pressure while there is 4 survivors left.
Sadako, doesn't really have one, 100 seconds cooldown is too long as a mobility and survivors can actually disable every tvs if they really want to.

You do realize that there is a BIG difference between players who play the game as thier Job and regular players who play to "try" to have fun. Those who play the game as thier Job would have put more time and energy into making sure they win most of their games for their streams etc. While those like me who play to have fun and not stress won't have the same skill set or time to put into the game and will face teams that "seem" like professional tournament teams, hence all the crying on the forums. I have faced some good really strong teams that made my games a living nightmare but they were not a professional team.
Most of the playerbase of DbD I assume is of the latter group. Is the constant crying annoying at times yes, but nothing to get bent out of shape over it

Sadako has a guaranteed win, if she manages to kill 1 Survivor before ~3 Generators get finished.
That's not a great argument. You can replace Sadako in that sentence with most of the roaster and a 3-gen holding ability is not even a necessary condition.
That essentially translates to: Sadako has a guaranteed win, if she manages to put herself in a situation where a killer gets a guaranteed win.
The crux of the problem lays in that "manages".
A better argument would be if she had the power to force the kill before 3 gens pop. Which she doesn't, unless the survivors literally don't find their m1s.

You know, what's funny is streamers whos playing this game as their job DO match with those SWF sweat squad plenty of times and they DO lose to them, yet those kind of people ignore this fact.
0 -
Unless you play Plague with gen slowdown build and strong addons.
1 -
She’s definitely stronger than what most people are saying. Probably a solid B tier. And she’s incredibly fun to play. I actually feel (and with the new skin look) like a horror character which is a rarity in this game.

Biggest issue here is the Sadako is a hit and run killer. This does not work anymore.
With CoH being in play you cannot do hit and run anymore. How many games you have without at least one CoH not being in play?
2 -
Now that is funny. I don't tend to watch streamers play DbD because the few I did watch were so opinionated about either thier skill or bashing the Killer and/or Survivors on how bad they are just really put me off from caring to watch them. The only person I watch is Ohmwreacker because he gives props to where they are due
0 -
So if I just do that, they won't do gens?
0 -
Maybe you should wait a month for her to settle before this? She just dropped, people are still learning to play as her and against her.
0 -
Oh they'll still do gens, it will just go alot more slower than what it normally does and give more time to apply pressure, along with Plague's ability to straightup deny any value out of COH or other healing related perks and end chases faster.
