Ok so in the back story and I think some cosmetics they go on about his "edgy new style" after his group died. How is bright fluorescent edgy? I have only heard edgy being used to describe people who dress in black, are morbidly dramatic about things etc. (I get murder could be described as edgy but... that wasn't common knowledge) So I don't get how mr. christmas tree is "edgy"

You're thinking of emo, or perhaps goth. While 'edgy' can apply to this as well, it has a broader definition of styling and acting in an unconventional way with intent to set a trend.
