Confused new Killermain
Hey there!
I recently picked the game up because Sadako was introduced and I'm a big fan of japanese horror. I played about 3 hours now and I'm a bit confused about some things.
1. Do I have to play other killers to unlock their perks for Sadako or is there a way to get them in a different way? I currently don't have much interest to play as a different killer so I'm just wondering if I'm missing anything.
2. The matchmaking feels like it's all over the place. My first 3-4 matches seemed mostly balanced but suddenly I get matched against people who just keep running in circles around me (sometimes multiple of them) and keep crouchspamming. They seem to clearly know how to play the game properly while I struggle to navigate through the map and not get stuck in the terrain. Is this normal or is there a different more balanced game mode?
3. Is there a training mode to try out killers other than the trapper? I would really like to try some things without the pressure of an actual match.
Sorry for my poor spelling/grammar. English isn't my first language.

Okay first of all, hi! Welcome to the Forums, and to the game as a whole!
As for your first point, yes. The way teachable perks work is that you level up a character to level 30, 35, and 40 (respective of the perk) and unlock the "Teachable" version in the web. Once this has been unlocked, it can appear in the bloodweb of any other killer. Alternatively, you can purchase these Teachable perks in the Shrine of Secrets (check the in-game store) for Iridescent Shards- the currency earned through playtime and leveling up your account. These are picked at random, with each week containing 2 killer and 2 survivor perks.
For your second point, yeah the matchmaking isn't great and there's only one gamemode. The matchmaking currently is based on a hidden rating (not the grades you see in the top right), which is calculated via kills and escapes. It's... not the best but it's what we have.
Sadly, no there isn't a training mode (despite us asking, it is apparently too much coding time for too little a reward, due to needing to code certain responses into the bots for each individual killer). If you have any friends, though, you could hop into a Custom Game to try some stuff out there (sadly single player Custom Game also isn't a thing), or if not there's a section on the Forums and the Discord to find people to play with.
If you want another tip, I'd suggest buying new content only through the DLCs officially. It's much cheaper overall this way. Purchase the licenced content (ie. Halloween, Leatherface, Sadako Rising, etc) first, as original characters (ie. Hag, Doctor, Artist) can be purchased through iridescent shards. Also, if you want to purchase new content, wait for new chapters to release (these typically happen every 3 months or so) as the game and most, if not all, old DLC go on sale then, some older ones being more than 50% off.
(PS. Your English is pretty good)

1) You don't have to play as the other killers however you do need to level them up
2) The matchmaking system is pretty bad, the devs added it in despite most people saying they didn't like it
3) Unfortunately not

One addendum, while the PC/console version doesn’t have a mode to practice against bots other than the tutorial, the mobile version does let you create custom matches against bots using any character you want. The mobile version is free to download but you’d have to unlock killers beyond Trapper if you want to play them. The mobile version is pretty much the same as the PC but bear in mind that, not surprisingly, controlling characters using virtual controls on a tablet is quite harder than using mouse and keyboard so you might have a rougher time of it on mobile as a killer. Still, if you’re just looking for a way to get a sense of how things work elsewhere it’s something to check out since it’s a free download.

Thank you all for the kind responses. I'll try my best to play just with Sadako's perks for now then. Hopefully there will be matchmaking fixes soon. (maybe I just got really unlucky with a couple of matches.) Also thanks for pointing out the mobile version! Unfortunately I don't have the strongest phone but maybe it's enough. Having a mode to train or actually play against bots sounds really nice since at the end of the day I just want to play a bit of Sadako and have fun.

1. You dont need to play them, however each killer comes with 3 teachables. You need to level up their bloodweb to unlock these for other killers.
2. Matchmaking is abit iffy at times, as a new player you'll be put at a (hidden) mmr, sadly this does mean you arent at the very bottom and can verse people who have some experience. In time it should get abit better but never perfect (time of day and wait times will impact the people you verse)
3. Theres a little tutorial, you can only play as trapper though but you could practice basic movements and learn the tiles (structures with pallets and windows) or try find some friendly people to do a custom game with.
I hope you have fun and a good time, killer can be a rough role so keep your head up if you do get bad games. Playing survivor can also help you learn things. But good luck!

1) You can get perks on the Shrine of Secrets, one of the shop's tabs. Other than that u gotta level up other killers in order to get their Teachable perks, but u don't have to play them, just invest bloodpoints.
2) There is no other mode and the game heavily favors survivors, Sadako is one of the weakest killers in the game right now, get used to being bullyied constantly and go play something else when u feel like you are done with the abuse.
3) There is no such thing, but u can test and train on Custom lobbies if u have friends to join you game.

Oh I already assumed that not every character/killer would be top tier but I didn't expect that bullying is a consequence of this. I couldn't tell what was going on in the bad matches that I had since I was very overwhelmed. I hope that won't happen too often then.

Don't worry, it will get more and more often the more u play the game, u will eventually either quit or get used to it.

Welcome and ... everybody else has given ample details already.
Never apologize for your English. I'm pretty sure a good chunk of people here aren't native English speakers either and you'll naturally improve with practice. (It's my 3rd language)

because negativity is a great way to help newer players.
quote on quote bullying does become more common the more you play (and thus the higher mmr you naturally go), however because you'll have played more you'll also learn more about how to counter it. sadako is, unfortunately, not the best but she's definitely better than "worst killer in the game"- i've played quite a bit as her myself and adore her playstyle and kit lol.
as a new player, you'll have access to the generic pool of perks straight away, as well as sadako's. i'd suggest aiming for a build like:
- Fearmonger (survivors who work on a generator become blind- cannot see auras- and exhausted- cannot use exhaustion perks- for 5 seconds, which continually refreshes itself for however long they're on the gen. exhaustion doesn't recover while running, just fyi)
- Call of Brine (you should know what this does but for 60 seconds after damaging a gen it'll regress 2x as fast)
- Sloppy Butcher (this makes healing take, by default, 20 seconds instead of 16)
- Spies From The Shadows (whenever a crow is disturbed by a survivor near you, get a visual popup. pretty nifty for tracking even if outclassed by perks from other characters).
obviously, if you want to use, say, Merciless Storm of Scourge Hook: Floods of Rage, or any other perks, absolutely go for it! just remember that it's a game, so play however is fun for you, use whatever is fun for you, and just try to have fun.

- You can level them up without playing them to unlock their teachables or spend 2k shards in the shirne to unlock teachables.
- Yeah not enough killer players most of the day makes matchmaking do some funky ######### also MMR as a whole kinda does funky ######### cause some survivors can be nigh impossible to catch for you skill but because they got slapped by noed or a facecamped a few games in a row they are now considered your skill.
- No.

Hey, welcome to the game :)
People already answered more or less to your questions. I just wanted to add something about the "bullying", since I saw already some people with a negative mindset, which is obviously not the best welcome to a newer player.
If you have time, watch this video:
It really shows the mindset that I recommend keeping while playing. Sure, Cope has thousands of hours of experience, but his mindset can really help not letting certain stuff get under your skin and ruin your experience :)
